Cangshan Blood River is steeped in many legends, most of which revolve around love between men and women. However, only the Dragon Clan knows that within the Blood River lies the seal of their totem. For thousands of years, the people of the Dragon Clan have guarded their secret, tattooing the totem of the Dragon God on their bodies in hopes of the Dragon God's resurrection in the future.
From time to time, the masters of the clan can hear a powerful heartbeat emanating from the Blood River, and they believe that the Dragon God still lives.
To outsiders, the Dragon Clan is merely a tribe of savages. Yet before the Pre-Qin period, this clan was unparalleled in its vigor. During those chaotic times when Daoist sects were just emerging, the Dragon Clan grew stronger under the leadership of the Dragon God, to the point where even capitals dared not invade them.
It is said that the Dragon God is a hybrid born of a dragon and a human. Some believe that he was transformed into this half-dragon, half-human form after drinking the blood of a true dragon. Wherever the Dragon God went, he was invincible; no one dared to challenge him until one day he obtained the infamous Blood River Map.
The Blood River Map is an ancient evil treasure. Wherever it appears, it inevitably brings about bloodshed and chaos. It is rumored that those who possess the Blood River Map are extremely bloodthirsty; with a mere thought, countless corpses fall before them, leaving behind a path of hell.
Many Pre-Qin alchemists united to seize the Blood River Map and declared war against the Dragon God. The battle was fierce and dark, leading to the fall of the Dragon Clan's great city. The Dragon God killed all invaders but was left on the brink of death himself. Before dying, he used the Blood River Map to condense a vast Blood River and concealed himself within it, warning future generations that he would one day resurrect.
Huzi sat on the throne of the Dragon Clan, surrounded by flowers and numerous offerings. He looked down at the throngs kneeling below him, feeling an intense nervousness in his heart.
On his way from the Blood River to the clan's territory, Huzi had already inquired about the name of the Dragon Clan Leader. Originally surnamed Wei, this clan had later adopted the surname Long. The leader's name was Long Cang. There were also several dragon priests in the clan whose cultivation levels Huzi could not discern; they were likely above his own.
Huzi spoke earnestly: "I have slept for thousands of years and have become somewhat hazy about past events. My powers have regressed significantly over time and need to be rebuilt. Who among you can guide me?"
Long Cang replied: "Our god. You left behind an unparalleled Cultivation Method for our clan. For thousands of years it has been passed down without fading; everything is prepared for you."
Long Cang then instructed a priest to bring forth an ancient book titled "Dragon God Decision." Huzi glanced at it lightly and thought to himself: "At least it's not Oracle Bone Script or some other gibberish."
Huzi tucked "Dragon God Decision" into his robe. Then Long Cang clapped his hands, and ten naked dragon maidens stepped forward. Huzi's eyes nearly bulged out as he asked seriously: "Long Cang, what does this mean?"
Long Cang responded: "Our god, these ten are offerings prepared by our people for you. They are all maidens with pure dragon bloodlines, ready for your choosing."
The thousands kneeling below did not dare raise their heads; neither did the ten maidens who kept their hands away from covering any vital areas, allowing Huzi to admire them freely. Huzi swallowed hard and said: "This seems inappropriate."
Huzi muttered to himself, "Ten is too many once again."
Long Cang seemed to understand and instructed the people of his clan to bring a large vat. Two men wielding big swords approached, and the faces of ten dragon clan beauties showed a hint of sorrow. One of the Brave Men pressed a beauty's neck against the vat, raising his sword to strike.
"Enough!" Huzi roared.
Having reached the Core Formation Stage thanks to the Blood River Map and having absorbed the immense power of the Dragon God's Heart, his voice thundered like divine lightning, causing everyone to kneel in fear, trembling uncontrollably.
"What do you mean by this, Long Cang?" Huzi questioned.
Long Cang dared not raise his head and replied, "Our clan's god, you are the true dragon reborn. You require Maiden's Vital Essence for nourishment to regain your strength. These maidens are cultivated as Dragon Clan Saintesses and can help you recover swiftly. If you do not need them, then let them be sacrificed for your cleansing."
Upon hearing this, Huzi furrowed his brow. He knew that some tribes had horrifying customs and that their beliefs were skewed and extreme, willing to sacrifice lives for absurd reasons.
Huzi said, "In these thousands of years of slumber, I have experienced reincarnation multiple times and witnessed the chaos of the world before returning to my clan. My purpose is to attain the true essence of immortality so that my clan can thrive eternally. The dragon race has many outdated practices that need reform. You must remember that life is precious; only by uniting as one can our dragon race ensure lasting prosperity. Such foolish acts must never be repeated!"
"We will remember!" Long Cang declared loudly.
The kneeling clansmen immediately echoed in unison, "We will remember."
Huzi replied with a grunt, "I am a bit tired now. Prepare clean bathing water and bring all the treasures and elixirs from the clan to my room; let her deliver them."
Huzi pointed at the most radiant beauty among the ten maidens. Her skin was as smooth as jade and as white as snow; Huzi had long been eager for her. However, he maintained a serious demeanor as he entered the residence of the clan leader under Long Cang's guidance.
At that moment, in an ancient cave on a desolate mountain, Wudang Zhang Juzheng stood by a blood pool where Zhang Xing stood bare-chested.
Zhang Juzheng said, "Years ago, while escorting goods with my father, we were ambushed here. Everyone except me was killed. I was chased by villains and fell into this ancient cave. This cave is an ancient demon lair filled with vengeful bones. Inside, I discovered a magic skill called Blood Demon Technique and practiced it there. In just over three months, I reached great mastery. This blood pool is incredibly sinister; it can amplify one's malice and grant immense power in anger. When we arrived, the outside was lush with green mountains and clear waters. Once you cultivate the Blood Demon Technique and emerge, you'll understand the consequences. If it weren't for my master taking me in and purging the demonic energy from my body, how could I have survived until today? Think carefully about this."
Zhang Xing nodded, and Dao Qi charged forward, activating the Blood Pool. The blood within the Blood Pool stirred violently, coalescing into sinister patterns that drilled into Zhang Xing's body, causing him to scream in agony. His long hair whipped around wildly, and it felt as if worms were burrowing into his flesh, with blood parasites invading beneath his skin. Zhang Xing gritted his teeth, his eyes bloodshot, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Zhang Juzheng said, "Your Blood Pool and Demonic energy are immense; a mere mortal like you can hardly endure it. You will likely reach your limit in about half an hour."
Zhang Juzheng took out the Blood Demon Technique from his robe and placed it beside the Blood Pool before stepping out of the cave.
Half an hour later, Zhang Juzheng suddenly sensed his vitality waning, and the surrounding flora was withering at an alarming rate. He rushed back to the cave, shouting, "Stop! Your rate of absorbing Evil Energy is too fast; get out of the Blood Pool!"
When Zhang Juzheng reached the edge of the Blood Pool, he saw bubbles rising as vast amounts of spiritual essence from the plants surged toward it. Even he turned pale; as a mere mortal who had abandoned his Magic Skill training, he realized that at this rate, he would become a Dried Corpse in just a few minutes!
Zhang Juzheng jumped into the Blood Pool and dragged Zhang Xing out. To his horror, he noticed that one side of Zhang Xing's head had developed a blood tumor, and one of his arms had grotesquely swollen to a size larger than his legs, with meridians sprawling across it as if the skin was about to burst.
However, before Zhang Juzheng could reach the shore, Zhang Xing suddenly opened his blood-red eyes, standing within the Blood Pool. "Shifu Uncle," he said, "I truly don't know how to thank you. With such immense power, why would you give it up?"
Zhang Juzheng turned to look at Zhang Xing and said urgently, "You are already showing signs of demonic corruption; get out of the Blood Pool now!"
Zhang Juzheng's face changed dramatically as he tried to pull Zhang Xing out of the Blood Pool, but Zhang Xing remained motionless. Climbing onto the shore in terror, Zhang Juzheng watched in horror as bubbles formed on Zhang Xing's skin. His flesh appeared charred and began to peel away, revealing bloody meat beneath. In a panic, Zhang Juzheng turned to flee.
A crimson tongue suddenly shot out from the back of Zhang Xing's head. Zhang Juzheng's eyes widened in shock as he fell lifelessly.
In the blink of an eye, Zhang Juzheng had transformed into a Dried Corpse, all his vitality absorbed.
Zhang Xing let out a chilling laugh as he retracted his tongue; waves of Blood River surged around him as he slowly sank back into the Blood Pool.
Time passed unmeasured until finally, the Blood Pool receded and dried up completely. The formation that had gathered Mountain Spirit essence shattered as an ugly-looking Zhang Xing emerged from the remnants of the Blood Pool. He picked up the discarded Blood Demon Technique and skimmed through it before setting it ablaze.
"What a joke this Blood Demon Technique is; this blood demon body itself is my greatest asset." Zhang Xing's voice had become extremely unpleasant as he crushed Zhang Juzheng's skull beneath his foot and walked out of the cave.
Outside the cave, the vast landscape was nothing but scorched earth, with trees and grass withered, and countless living beings had turned into Dried Corpses, devoid of any vitality.
Blood dripped intermittently from Zhang Xing's body, rendering his original appearance unrecognizable. The blood was slowly retracting, seemingly trying to restore his swollen and massive form to its original state.
Meanwhile, over ten miles away, Yunxi and I were leaping toward the source of the Evil Energy.
Last night, Leiyin Temple was suddenly attacked. Divine Serpent Cult Leader Nangong had taken Meng Xuanjian along with two Guardians. Leiyin Temple did not have a prison; instead, the place where Meng Xuanjian was held was merely sealed with restrictions. Nangong personally rescued Meng Xuanjian while the Three Great Monks remained in seclusion. Haikong believed someone was threatening Douding and stayed close to protect him. Master Hai Deng could not stop them alone, ultimately allowing their escape.
That night, I was abruptly awakened from my sleep by an overwhelming sense of evil energy consuming the life essence of living beings to strengthen itself. Yunxi stood on the rooftop, gazing toward Shu Mountain with a furrowed brow.
"Yunxi, did you notice something?" I asked.
Yunxi nodded and replied, "Dunhuang is connected to Ancient Shu. It is rumored that place has become a battlefield for immortals and demons. The sudden surge of such intense evil energy surely indicates something terrible has happened."
"Let's go check it out; there are still some sects there," I suggested.
Yunxi agreed with a nod, and the two of us set off toward Shu Mountain under the starry night.
A few hours later, we arrived at the borders of Shu Mountain and noticed that some vegetation along the border had lost moisture and vitality. Some creatures were fleeing in panic.
Exchanging glances with Yunxi, we quickly moved deeper inside. Along the way, we saw numerous desiccated corpses of birds and beasts; the further we went in, the more withered the trees became.
Shu Mountain had always been lush and vibrant, a retreat for ancient scholars and heroes alike. Yet now it had turned so desolate, as if it had just been ravaged by a great fire.
Suddenly, distant screams pierced the air. We followed the sound and found a secluded Taoist temple where several Taoists had become Dried Corpses. An Old Taoist within the temple was nailed to the mountain gate.
A blood-soaked humanoid monster drew an Iron Sword from its body and rasped, "You old fool who knows no better."
Yunxi waved his right hand, and Tai Xu Ling sliced through the air. The Blood Man rolled to avoid it, landing on the mountain gate.
I asked, "Who are you? What kind of evil technique have you practiced that has turned the entire Shu Mountain into a desolate wasteland?"
Upon seeing me, the Blood Man's eyes widened with rage. His flesh trembled, and he roared angrily as he threw a punch at me.
Blood light surged, and dust flew everywhere. Yunxi and I leaped into the air simultaneously. I punched downward with all my might, unleashing Dao Divine Might. The air shattered under the force, and the Blood Man was knocked to the ground, blood bursting from his body and splattering onto the ground with a sizzling sound.
"Yang Hao, I will kill you!" the Blood Man screamed in fury. He suddenly sprang up from the ground, grabbing the long sword that had been driven into the old man at the mountain gate. With a sweeping motion, he unleashed a wave of sword energy. I vanished from my spot and reappeared behind him, stabbing him in the heart with my sword.
"Heart!" Yunxi reminded me.
The Blood Man thrust his sword toward his own chest, and the sword energy surged into my body. I hurriedly retreated, my face turning pale.
"Who exactly are you? You can wield Wudang Sword Qi and know me—are you Zhang Xing?!" I asked.
