The Corpse Pool of the Demon King of Sealing was set with a formation by the Ancient Power to gather Mountain Spirits. The Mountain Spirits, filled with turbid energy, nurtured the earth and absorbed the essence of the sun and moon, which was referred to as Pure Yang Liquid. This Pure Yang Liquid had a strong restraining power against Corpse Demons. The Demon King was sealed within a stone coffin, and if he were to open it himself, the Pure Yang Liquid accumulated over thousands of years would dissolve him into blood.
However, the Ancient Powers could never have predicted that in later generations, someone not only failed to eliminate the Demon King but instead released him.
Over the millennia, the accumulation of Pure Yang Liquid formed a long-sedimented Mountain Spirit at the spiral opening at the bottom of the coffin. This Mountain Spirit could be an unparalleled treasure refined through natural formations over thousands of years, stronger than any Holy Medicine or elixir. I had seen related records in Taoist Ancient Texts, which led me to speculate that a Mountain Spirit would form beneath the coffin. Song Qianqiu could never have imagined that he had missed out on such a treasure.
Five Gang wanted to swallow it immediately, but I stopped him, saying, "Let's leave here and return to the Yang Realm before consuming it."
As soon as I finished speaking, a noise came from outside, resembling the sound of a skull being crushed. Five and I hid behind a pile of bones and saw the enormous body of the Demon King walking toward the main hall, looking injured. I grabbed Five and used Time Walk, vanishing from our spot in an instant.
The Demon King turned back, his expression filled with confusion before he entered the main hall.
After a while, Five and I finally escaped to the Cliffside Yin River surrounding Underworld City. Upon exiting the Underworld cave, we saw Yang Sanqian sitting cross-legged on a rock, his face pale.
"Hao, Five. Are you both alright?" Yang Sanqian asked.
Five shook his head and replied, "Not only are we fine, but we also obtained a Mountain Spirit."
I asked, "Father, are you injured?"
Yang Sanqian said, "I'm fine; I fought with the Demon King to a standstill. Since we're okay, let's leave this place quickly."
Both Five and I nodded in agreement as we moved together toward Qilian Mountain.
From what we had seen with Light Shadow earlier, it seemed that at least five experts from the Mahayana Realm were needed to open the Book of Life and Death. To rewrite it would require the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen. When Old Scholar wrote down the names of the other four Supremes on the Book of Life and Death, their names quickly vanished. The reason for this failure was likely because he did not know their birth dates and times. Moreover, since these Supremes were on par with him in strength, erasing them posed certain limitations.
In those days, when various factions took turns managing the Book of Life and Death, it had once been in the hands of the Yang Family. However, nothing significant occurred at that time. Thus, I speculated that opening the Book of Life and Death required five experts from the Mahayana Realm; moreover, twenty years ago during the Death and Life Register Incident was due to that paper secretly torn by Old Scholar.
Now, there were only three Mahayana Realm experts in the Yang Family: Old Scholar Yang Kaishan, Yang Xuanzong (the Yang Family Head), and Master Li Chang'an. Even if they obtained the Book of Life and Death, they would still need two more Mahayana Realm experts. Would they have to unite with leaders from other major factions or use avatars to substitute for one Mahayana Realm expert?
Two days later, we passed through Dunhuang and decided to visit Leiyin Temple. After such a long time, I assumed that Douding and the others had already returned to Leiyin Temple. However, after meeting with the abbot Haikong, we were informed that Douding had not yet come back.
I said, "There's no need to worry, Abbot. Douding should still be in Jiangnan. He is being taken care of by my friends and my mother, so he will be fine."
Haikong nodded and replied, "That's good to hear."
Wudao then asked, "By the way, Abbot, what about Douding's Qiongqi?"
Haikong explained, "It is residing in Zen Temple, sealed by a formation that restricts its movement. For the past few days, I and several elders have been reciting Sutras to dispel the malevolent energy it has accumulated over the years. I will take a few donors to see it."
"Thank you for your efforts, Abbot."
We followed Haikong to Zen Temple and saw Qiongqi lying in the courtyard. Upon seeing us, it glanced at us lightly before lowering its head again to bask in the sun.
At noon, we had a vegetarian meal at Leiyin Temple. Yang Sanqian and Haikong engaged in a lively discussion about Buddhist teachings and Daoist arts while Wudao and I listened quietly. We informed Haikong about the results of our investigation into the Book of Life and Death. Although Leiyin Temple had not participated in major Daoist events for a century, it was particularly concerned about matters related to the Book of Life and Death.
Haikong frowned and said, "The Book of Life and Death is of great importance. Before my master passed away, he told me that after the Death and Life Register Incident, many sects attacked Yaochi. He was present during that battle to observe the actions of various sects. He initially suspected that the Serpent Cult was behind it all, but who would have thought it would be Venerable Scholar?"
Yang Sanqian added, "The Old Scholar's Daoist arts are unparalleled; his power is unfathomable. Forty years ago, he was already at the late stage of Mahayana Realm; now he must be at Tribulation Realm or even on the verge of reaching Immortal Path. The Yang Family is eager to obtain the Book of Life and Death and may seek out Miao Guanyin for help. I'm worried that Miao Guanyin might struggle alone; we need to find him quickly."
Haikong responded, "Miao Guanyin is also a Supreme; as long as the Yang Family doesn't mobilize all three top experts, they shouldn't be able to deal with her."
We all agreed with Haikong's viewpoint. The South Sea Sect has always been passed down through generations with each successor being a Supreme Daoist. This sect has always taken it upon themselves to eliminate demons and uphold righteousness; no other sect specifically targets them. They have managed to turn the tide in Daoist Sect affairs countless times without issue. The Book of Life and Death should be safe in Miao Guanyin's hands.
I remarked, "For thousands of years, the Book of Life and Death has been one of the greatest disputes within Daoist Sect. Although it is a Treasure, it is also a source of chaos. I wonder if you know of anything that could destroy the Book of Life and Death?"
Haikong furrowed his brow and said, "Among the Eight Sacred Artifacts of the Taoist Sect, there is a cauldron called Sun Refining Cauldron. It is said to be able to refine all things; even other Sacred Artifacts would be turned into liquid if placed inside it. However, the Sun Refining Cauldron is merely a legend. During Dark Turmoil, it seems that Sword Saint mentioned it; it has apparently fallen into the Western Regions and has not been seen since."
"Western Divine Serpent Sect?" I murmured.
"That remains unknown," Haikong said. "The Eight Sacred Artifacts each have their strengths, and among them, the Sun Refining Cauldron should be the only thing capable of countering the Book of Life and Death. Beyond that, I can't think of anything else."
Yang Sanqian replied, "I've never heard of the Sun Refining Cauldron being in the Serpent Cult. I only know that there is a prophetic stone tablet called the Machine Wall within the Serpent Cult. After all, the Serpent Cult is a Supreme Sect, so it wouldn't be surprising if they had the Sun Refining Cauldron."
I said, "By the way, Master, I have a small request."
"Please go ahead, Benefactor Yang Hao," Haikong responded.
I continued, "During my visit to Qilian Mountain in the Underworld, I inadvertently obtained a Mountain Essence. However, it has some mixed impurities and Ghostly Energy on it. I would like to ask you to help purify it. I will provide five servings."
"To obtain a Treasure like Mountain Spirit, your fortune is truly exceptional," Haikong remarked. "Let me take a look."
Wuh exclaimed softly and took out the Mountain Spirit from his bosom. Haikong examined the Jade Pill in his hand and said, "Indeed, it carries a trace of malevolent aura and is somewhat mixed. My Buddhist Sect has a spell called the Ming Wang Jing E Spell that can easily remove the malevolent aura from it. However, given Wuh's cultivation level, consuming the Mountain Spirit might cause issues."
"Therefore, I have another request. Please allow the elders of the Buddhist Sect to assist Wuh as Guardians in refining the Mountain Spirit. In return, I will gift a Holy Medicine to Leiyin Temple," I proposed.
"It is but a small effort; you need not be so courteous," Haikong replied.
I communicated silently, "Bubble, wake up quickly and get me a Holy Medicine."
The beast woke up from the Seven-Colored Bubble's Holy Herb Garden. Hearing my request for Holy Medicine, it mumbled with some dissatisfaction and hurriedly ran into the Holy Herb Garden. After rummaging around for a while, it pulled out a Holy Medicine that resembled a radish and tossed it out. I caught the Holy Medicine and handed it to Haikong.
Seeing that I had indeed produced a Holy Medicine, Haikong's expression turned somewhat excited. After all, even major sects might not find a single Holy Medicine in ten years. There are at most a hundred such medicines in the world, hidden within Celestial Mountain Blessed Land. The eight Holy Medicines in Yaochi had already stirred excitement among everyone in the Daoist Sect, yet I was directly giving one away.
"Thank you very much for this; Leiyin Temple will certainly do its utmost to help Wuh refine the Mountain Spirit," Haikong expressed his gratitude and accepted it calmly.
"This Jade Pill is that impressive?" Wuh asked in confusion as he looked at the Mountain Spirit.
Haikong explained, "The so-called Mountain Spirit is essentially the essence of a mountain. The Underworld Entrance of Qilian Mountain has been sealed by Five Elements Peak, concentrating the essence of the entire mountain range together. If it lasts for ten thousand years, it will become a mountain deity. Its medicinal properties are second only to those of Earth Dragon Vein and can quickly create a master."
Haikong finished and instructed to summon the elders of Leiyin Temple, bringing Wu to the Central Altar of the Ten Thousand Buddha Grotto. A group of elders from Leiyin Temple sat around, and after Wu was infused with the refined Mountain Spirit, he radiated a red glow and emitted smoke. He shouted, "Wait, get me some water! I'm nervous!"
Several elders ignored him, reciting scriptures to calm his mind.
After a while, suddenly a disciple burst into the Ten Thousand Buddha Grotto and said, "Reporting to the host, something bad has happened."
"What is it?" Haikong asked with a frown.
The disciple replied, "Qiongqi has gone mad in the Zen Temple; it seems like it wants to escape."
"Let's go take a look," Haikong said and headed toward the Zen Temple with us.
Inside the Zen Temple, Qiongqi roared, repeatedly crashing against the barrier surrounding it. At that moment, the beast suddenly woke up and crawled out of my arms. It opened its sleepy eyes and looked at the enormous Qiongqi inside the Zen Temple. I thought the beast would be scared, but unexpectedly, it darted into the barrier and entered the Zen Temple. Its round eyes gazed at Qiongqi as it let out soft, adorable cries.
"What kind of spirit beast is this? It can directly cross the Spirit Binding Formation set up by my Leiyin Temple?" Haikong said with curiosity, observing Not Point Bubble.
At first, Qiongqi didn't notice the palm-sized beast. However, when its eyes caught sight of it, its fur bristled in alarm as if it had seen a ghost and it suddenly shrank back.
The beast pointed at Qiongqi and called out, while Qiongqi emitted a low growl that sounded almost submissive. Then its chin rested on the ground like a docile cow, completely still.
The beast slowly flew in front of Qiongqi and squeaked as if asking a question. Qiongqi responded with several low growls. The beast nodded and gently patted Qiongqi's head twice in a surprisingly human-like manner before flying back to my palm, using all four limbs to gesture while mumbling.
"Hao, what kind of spirit beast is this?" Yang Sanqian asked, voicing everyone's confusion.
I replied, "I don't know exactly what kind of spirit beast it is; I named it Bubble. It's usually very quiet and sleeps in my arms."
"Then what is it doing now?" Sky Master asked.
I said, "Bubble tells me that Qiongqi senses danger for Douding and wants to go save him."
"The spirit beast's intuition is always accurate, so I'll release it first," Haikong said, chanting a spell to break the formation.
I looked at Beast Path and said, "Bubble, let Qiongqi take us along."
"Okay!" the beast replied in a tender voice, instructing Qiongqi to lie down and remain still.
Yang Sanqian remarked, "Douding and the others have your mother and Ghost Elder protecting them; logically, they shouldn't be in danger. Could it be that they got separated?"
Haikong replied, "Shanxin is a playful child; perhaps he wandered off and encountered danger. It's also possible that the Three Divine Monks stirred up hidden old monsters while searching for the Relic. Poor Monk will go with you."
I nodded and approached Qiongqi, who obediently allowed me to mount its back. Yang Sanqian and Haikong climbed on as well. Haikong turned to the disciples outside Zen Temple and instructed, "Go tell Master Hai Deng to keep an eye on the sect."
"Understood, Master. You can rest assured."
Qiongqi leaped out of Leiyin Temple, moving like the wind, quickly disappearing into the desert.
Qiongqi was fast; although its fleshy wings couldn't fly yet, it reached the Jiangnan Region in no time. Qiongqi headed straight for Jiangnan City. I patted Qiongqi and said, "Don't go into the city; head left towards where we stay."
Upon arriving at Yang Sanqian's large courtyard in Jiangnan, we found that half of it had been destroyed. Deep ravines marked the ground, clearly caused by sword energy. Yang Sanqian jumped off Qiongqi and called out Jiyao's name while checking each room, but no one was inside.
I said, "Father, it's obvious that this sword energy was caused by Dongfang Jiu. After living here for so many years, Sword Pavilion's people must already know about it. We should go to Sword Pavilion."
Yang Sanqian nodded and jumped back onto Qiongqi as we raced toward Sword Pavilion.
Half an hour later, under a bright moon with few stars, Sword Pavilion was ablaze with lights.
We arrived outside Sword Pavilion at Lake Island, where a large group of Sword Sect Disciples had gathered in neat formation, each carrying a long sword.
Dongfang Jiu and several Elders of the Sword Pavilion stood on the city walls, watching us intently.
Eastern Nine: "Yang Sanqian, Yang Hao. We've been waiting for a long time! Oh, who is that bald guy?"
Haikong descended from Qiongqi's back, hands pressed together in prayer, and said, "Amitabha. I am Haikong, the abbot of Leiyin Temple. It seems that the Eastern Sword Master is my senior. May I ask why the Sword Master has captured a monk from Leiyin Temple?"
"I captured someone from Leiyin Temple?" Dongfang Jiu feigned surprise and called out behind him, "Bring them all up."
After a while, Huzi, Iron Bull, Chang Liulang, and Douding were all brought forward.
Huzi exclaimed, "Are you all fools? Just walking in like this is definitely a trap!"
I looked at Eastern Nine and said, "You captured a few of my friends; are you after the sword?"
"Smart," Eastern Nine replied. "As long as you give me the sword, I'll release them."
Yang Sanqian interjected, "Dongfang Jiu, it's foolish of you to threaten with a few juniors when you're the leader of the Sword Pavilion."
Eastern Nine responded, "Divine Hero, I didn't want to be your enemy, but your son is too unpredictable. Without any leverage, he will surely pull some tricks."
I said, "Release them first, and then I'll give you the sword."
Eastern Nine replied, "You possess the Void Technique; how can I release them first? I'll count down for ten seconds. You hand over both the Frostblade and the Seven Star Sword—missing even one will not do. Every ten seconds, I'll kill one person: ten, nine, eight, seven..."
"You must keep your word. Otherwise, even if I die, I'll drag you down with me." I summoned the Frostblade and the Seven Star Sword from my Qi Sea and threw them towards Dongfang Jiu.
Dongfang Jiu caught both swords and laughed heartily. He looked at the Frostblade and the Seven Star Sword and said, "Cold as winter, white as frost; Seven Stars shining bright and unique. Should I melt both of these swords together or keep this ancient Seven Stars sword?"
"Master," Zhang Xing said from his position on the city wall. "The Seven Star Sword is part of a set with the Seven Star Sword Technique and the Seven Star Sword Formation. The Frostblade is one of the Top Ten Famous Swords from ancient times. Suddenly introducing another Seven Star Sword could unpredictably affect their forging."
"That's true!" Eastern Nine said as he placed the Frostblade against Huzi's face.
I clenched my fist and said, "Dongfang Jiu, I've already given you the sword. What more do you want?"
Dongfang Jiu raised an eyebrow and replied, "I will definitely let these four go, but what about the others?"
Dongfang Jiu laughed heartily, looking at Zhang Xing, who was gripping Chang Liulang's neck. "Which one should I kill first?"
"You'd better let them go," a cold voice echoed from the darkness. In the bright lights, the young white-haired Dongfang Yuqing flew in, landing before the disciples of Sword Pavilion.
"Dongfang Yuqing?" Zhang Xing glared at Dongfang Yuqing, gritting his teeth.
Dongfang Jiu frowned and asked, "Dongfang Yuqing, what are you doing here?"
I said, "These people are my friends. Since you've already obtained the sword, why do you still want to kill a few weaklings who are inconsequential to you?"
"This is my master's business. How dare you, a traitor, meddle?" Zhang Xing retorted.
"Calling someone a traitor over and over again, Wudang Zhang Xing, don't you have any shame?" Dongfang Yuqing shot back.
Zhang Xing snorted and drew his sword, flying towards the city tower. Dongfang Yuqing brought his fingers together, and the Azure Sword unsheathed behind him. With a single slash, the disciples of Sword Sect retreated. Zhang Xing blocked with his sword; Sword Body bent under the impact, causing his hands to tingle.
Zhang Xing looked up at Eastern Nine on the tower. "Master, may I borrow the Seven Star Sword?"
Dongfang Jiu remained expressionless as he tossed the Seven Star Sword to Zhang Xing. Catching it, Zhang Xing swung the sword horizontally; its light surged tenfold. Dongfang Yuqing stepped back as the Azure Sword flew into the air. Then two swords behind him shook as Dongfang Yuqing declared, "One move will take care of a nobody like you!"
Zhang Xing replied defiantly, "I want to see just how strong you really are!"
"White Dragon, unleash! Extreme North Rain of Gui Water!"
"Azure Dragon appears! Wood Element Eastern Howl Across a Thousand Mountains!"
“Crimson Dragon emerges, Fire Separation from the south burns the nine, three of the five elements, Reincarnation Slash!”
Dongfang Yuqing narrowly dodged Zhang Xing's Seven Star Sword energy. Executing the Five Elements Sword Technique, Reincarnation Slash was unleashed. Zhang Xing crossed his sword to block, managing to deflect most of the sword energy, but his body swayed as he staggered backward.
With a soft thud, a Golden Sword pierced Zhang Xing's abdomen, sending him flying and crashing against the city wall. Dongfang Yuqing proudly sheathed his sword and declared, “The Golden Dragon is the sword I intended to wield.”
As the Three Swords returned to their sheath, Dongfang Yuqing was about to stab Zhang Xing to death when Dongfang Jiu flicked a finger, forcing Dongfang Yuqing to retreat. “Enough, this farce ends here. Release him.”
After Dongfang Jiu spoke, an elder behind him lifted the restrictions on the four individuals. Huzi, Iron Bull, Douding, and Chang Liulang descended from the city tower. Douding first greeted me with a “Brother Yang Hao,” then patted Qiongqi, saying, “Big Cat, what brings you here?”
I looked at Dongfang Jiu, then addressed our group, “Let’s leave first. Dongfang Yuqing, you should come too; I have something to discuss with you.”
