Song Qianqiu couldn't help but laugh out loud. After years of hardships, he had sought various secret methods and ancient medicines to enhance his abilities. However, without guidance, he had turned himself into something neither human nor ghost, and his body had grown increasingly frail. He couldn't even learn a second-rate sword technique like the Azure Cloud Sword Classic. Even after obtaining Yang Long's Perfect Golden Core and talent, he had only managed to grasp a half-baked Void Technique. But now, he had acquired the Great Wilderness Scripture.
The Taiyin mentioned in the Great Wilderness Scripture was likely related to time. Since ancient times, the first forbidden technique listed in the Daoist Sect was Revival. Revival was a taboo in the Daoist Sect because it went against the Dao and would incur punishment. Before Revival, there was another forbidden technique concerning time itself, as all Daoist Arts related to time had been destroyed long ago due to their extreme nature. Realizing this, Song Qianqiu quickly opened the Great Wilderness Scripture and began to study it meticulously.
Two nights later, Song Qianqiu closed the Great Wilderness Scripture. He looked at the flames before him and the several burly men standing by the fire. Snatching a knife from one of them, he swiftly decapitated several individuals.
Activating the Great Wilderness Scripture, a white light radiated from him as time reversed. The men took two steps forward, seemingly unaware that their heads had been severed. Soon, darkness enveloped them, life extinguished; they collapsed to the ground with blood gushing from their throats.
With a smirk at the corner of his mouth, Song Qianqiu took down a roasted beast from the fire to enjoy.
After satisfying his hunger, Song Qianqiu continued deeper into the forest. By now, most of his strength had returned. He spotted an ancient temple not far ahead, emanating a foul odor along with a heavy Yin Qi.
"I wonder if the Taiyin power from the Great Wilderness Scripture can affect this place. It's less than two hundred feet away from that group; such close proximity should have an effect," Song Qianqiu murmured to himself.
As he approached the temple and leaped onto the wall, he saw a Taoist dressed in a Tai Chi Black Robe sitting cross-legged on a stone platform embedded with jade stones. Surrounding him were numerous bones, and beside him lay a mutilated corpse that appeared to have been gnawed upon.
Song Qianqiu nearly retched at the sight of the meat he had just consumed. He recalled that among those who had tried to kill him earlier, someone mentioned that an old monster always found human flesh delicious; surely that old monster referred to this person before him.
The Old Taoist's face was covered in sores, likely a consequence of consuming human flesh. With his eyes closed, he stood next to a Blood Flag that exuded a foul stench; it felt as if one could hear wraiths howling nearby.
Suddenly, the Old Taoist opened his eyes and looked toward the wall. "Who goes there? Come out at once!" he commanded.
Just as Song Qianqiu was about to leap over the wall into the courtyard, a Dao Body appeared before him and landed right in front of the Old Taoist. Song Qianqiu gasped in shock—it was Yang Hao.
Two days prior.
In a courtyard within the imperial capital...
I rejected Yu Xuanliang's kind offer. After bidding farewell to Yu Xuanliang and Li Fugui, I turned and left.
Li Fugui asked, "Sir, are you really just going to let Yang Hao go?"
Yu Xuanliang countered, "What else can we do?"
Li Fugui replied, "Since he might be the future adversary, why not keep him? With his Martial Dao Classic and growth rate, it wouldn't be impossible for him to wipe out the Daoist Sect."
Yu Xuanliang shook his head and said, "A forcibly picked fruit is never sweet. This is something I've understood clearly over the past few centuries. Even if you kill him, another will surely emerge, perhaps even stronger. Let things take their course. Since he himself is dissatisfied with the Daoist Sect, let him decide. The more you guide him, the more he will feel your intentions and may go in the opposite direction."
"What should we do next?" Li Fugui asked.
"Watch the show," Yu Xuanliang replied.
After leaving the imperial capital, I traveled southward. As I passed a mountain ridge, it was already late in the day when my Zhou Compass suddenly began to tremble. I took out the compass and followed its direction, soon spotting a faint glow rising from a mountaintop.
Following the winding path up the mountain, I could see an ancient temple nestled within the forest above; this was precisely where the Zhou Compass pointed.
In Huaxia, within the Daoist World, Celestial Mountain Blessed Lands and Ancient Caves often concealed unexpected treasures. It was said that they could help one advance by leaps and bounds. However, as I approached, I sensed something was off due to a pervasive stench and occasional glimpses of human bones along the way.
I crouched by the courtyard wall to peer inside and saw a Taoist priest dressed in a Tai Chi Black Robe sitting cross-legged on a stone platform in the center of the courtyard. The stone platform was a Seven Star Stone Platform, one of the altars used by Daoists for divination, surrounded by countless skulls. Beside the old priest lay a mat with a corpse on it; half of its face had been gnawed away.
After a while, the main door creaked open, and a woman emerged carrying a large platter of meat. Her gaze was vacant, and she was covered in drool.
The woman approached the Old Taoist and fed him raw meat slices while he reached out to touch her chest. After finishing one platter of raw meat, he pointed at the corpse on the ground and said, "Drag that away and scoop out all the brain matter; Old Man needs it for training."
The woman's body was stiff as she dragged the corpse on the ground, and with a loud bang, the door slammed shut. Inside, the sound of meat being chopped echoed.
After a while, a new skull was brought out and handed to the Old Taoist, while the woman dragged in another body.
Once the woman returned to her room, the Old Taoist began to chant. The Blood Flag fluttered and enveloped the fresh head. Blood surged forth, and the sound of wailing emerged from the Blood Flag. The skull quickly turned black and fell to the side.
I couldn't hold it any longer and crouched down to vomit.
"Who is it? Come out at once!" the Old Taoist shouted from within the courtyard.
I lightly leaped over the wall and landed inside. The Old Taoist's lips curled into a sneer as he spoke with a foul breath, "You choose not to walk the path of righteousness, yet you dare intrude upon hell's gates. My Corpse Banner has already refined nine hundred and ninety-nine Living Souls. I was just about to descend the mountain to capture a proper Blood Sacrifice of the First Disciple. Once my Corpse Banner is perfected, I can slay Demons and eliminate Supremes!"
"Do you not find your grandiose claims laughable?" I asked.
The Old Taoist snorted, "What do you know?"
"I don't know?" I raised an eyebrow. "The banner is one of the Taoist Artifacts, divided into Soul Banners, Ghost Banners, and Corpse Banners. The Corpse Banner is the lowest tier because it only requires ordinary human bones. Do you think that killing a thousand people will allow you to create some kind of Treasure? That’s quite naive—like a frog at the bottom of a well."
"You... how do you know this?" The Old Taoist's eyes widened in shock.
I replied, "I not only know this; I also know that you often feel itchy all over and have developed a dependency on human flesh. If you don’t continue consuming it, your body will rot away."
"You know too much! I will have you killed!" The Old Taoist roared, leaning forward as he unleashed a powerful punch, executing the killing move of Rift Path.
The void split open, and the old man screamed in agony as he wielded the Corpse Banner to defend himself. He was blasted back into a distant room, along with the entire ancient temple being destroyed. The Old Taoist leaned against a tree, muttering incantations as countless Wraiths flew out from the Corpse Banner, charging toward me.
"Get lost!" I snorted coldly. I shattered all the Wraiths that came flying at me; the souls of ordinary people, tainted by Ghostly Energy, were like paper dolls before me, utterly defenseless. The Old Taoist asked, "Who exactly are you?"
I didn't answer. I watched as the woman in the collapsed courtyard regained her senses, looking lost and confused. She screamed, not knowing what had happened, and the Old Taoist said, "Kill him!"
The woman's eyes turned red as she lunged at me with a knife. The blade slipped from her grasp, piercing through her skull before curving in mid-air and suddenly shooting toward the Old Taoist's neck, impaling both his neck and a nearby tree simultaneously.
The Old Taoist clutched his neck and struggled for a moment before gasping his last breath. The Soul attempted to break free but was turned to ash by me. I glanced at the Corpse Banner in his hand and incinerated it with Dao Fire, then turned to leave the mountain.
After Yang Hao departed, Song Qianqiu, who had been hiding in the shadows, stepped out, relieved that he hadn't acted earlier.
"This Great Wilderness Scripture... I wonder if it can affect higher-level Cultivators. Yang Hao possesses the Martial Dao Classic and knows too many secret techniques; it's best not to confront him for now," Song Qianqiu muttered to himself.
Next to the Old Taoist's corpse, Dao Fire blazed brightly, and the Corpse Banner had already turned to ashes. Just as Song Qianqiu was about to turn and leave, he noticed a corner of parchment peeking out from the Old Taoist's robe. He pulled it out to reveal a complex map. As he studied its contents, he frowned deeply.
"Qilian Mountain... rumored to be a connection between the Underworld and the Yang Realm. The Corpse Banner technique is merely a fragment of the Ghost Scripture..."
