"Is this Qiongqi the same one from before?" someone asked in terror. "Wasn't it injured? Besides, this one is much bigger than that Qiongqi. How many Qiongqi are there?"
The Qiongqi bared its sharp teeth and suddenly lunged at Wusanjin. Iron Bull roared, and Iron Hammer struck, but was swatted away by the Qiongqi. With five hands forming seals, a sealing rune appeared in their palms as they hurriedly cast a spell. Just as the Qiongqi charged forward, a shadow of a Dao Body fell in front of it.
The massive head of the Qiongqi looked down disdainfully at the newcomer, drool dripping from its mouth as it issued a warning growl.
"Is that Rain Master Sister Luo?" someone recognized the figure of Rain Master Luo.
"Senior Sister Yu, this is the Ancient Fierce Beast Qiongqi," Five reminded, feeling a surge of excitement. He hadn't expected that the legendary woman who had fallen off the cliff during the incident at Mount Hua was still alive.
The enormous and fierce eyes of the Qiongqi fixated on the tiny human before it, and being a woman only added to its confusion; it saw no trace of fear in her eyes.
Rain Master Luo stared coldly at the looming Qiongqi: "Get lost!"
The Qiongqi suddenly opened its massive jaws, aiming to swallow Rain Master Luo. Her sword pierced through its chin and emerged from its upper jaw. The Qiongqi howled in pain, swinging its gigantic hand toward her. Though Rain Master Luo raised her Dao Qi to defend herself, it shattered under the force, sending her flying like a missile into the sand, blood spilling from her mouth.
"Senior Sister Yu!" everyone cried out in concern. The power of this Qiongqi made them all wary; it could even injure Rain Master Luo! "Sister, the might of the Qiongqi, unmatched by human strength, there's no need to confront this beast."
As Rain Master Luo fell from the sandy wall, dust shook off her body with a burst of Dao Qi. She glared at the Qiongqi, which roared but took a step back; it sensed a strong killing intent emanating from this seemingly insignificant human.
Turning to the others, Rain Master Luo instructed, "You all go up first."
With her guarding them, everyone quickly began to climb up using ropes.
Moments later, only the Qiongqi and Rain Master Luo remained in the pit. The beast pulled the sword from its jaw and flapped its leathery wings, extending its sharp claws as it taunted her.
Surrounded by swirling yellow sand, swords scattered throughout suddenly flew into the air—dozens of them. One spinning Flying Sword shot toward the Qiongqi, which reacted swiftly, leaping aside to pounce on Rain Master Luo. Another sword flew out and pierced deep into its chest. The Qiongqi let out a wretched scream as it collapsed to the ground, multiple Flying Swords stabbing into its body, leaving it helpless and howling in agony.
Several Flying Swords lay unused on the ground. Rain Master Luo picked up a piece of rope from the ground and looped it around Qiongqi's neck, leading it to the shore above the sand pit.
Everyone was astonished. The Ancient Fierce Beast, the very killer Qiongqi that had regained its vitality, had been defeated by Rain Master Luo. According to the "Shan Hai Jing," Qiongqi possessed immense strength and could devour the earth; once it grew strong, it could slay gods and Buddhas. This Qiongqi, which had guarded the Dunhuang Sutra Repository for an unknown number of years, was not at its peak due to its weakened state, yet even the elders and sect leaders of major factions would likely not be its match.
Qiongqi let out a low growl, feeling disgruntled. The crowd began to shout, demanding that Qiongqi be killed. However, some sects were envious; this Qiongqi was worth as much as a master of the Mahayana Realm. If they could tame it as their sect's guardian spirit beast, no one would dare provoke them even when calamity struck.
At that moment, Douding, who was observing from a distance, suddenly felt a golden light flickering at his forehead. He clutched his head, his expression slightly pained.
"What’s wrong?" Yunxi asked.
Douding shook his head and replied, "It's nothing. I just had a brief headache, but it seems someone is calling for help."
Douding looked suspiciously at Qiongqi, who lay in the distance with Flying Swords embedded in its body and its acupoints sealed. Qiongqi raised its head and looked toward Douding's location, letting out a despondent roar.
"Good-hearted one, why does your Soul fluctuate so greatly? What has happened?" Sky Master asked, looking at the golden light on Douding's forehead with curiosity.
Douding said, "Square-Faced Uncle, that Big Cat is asking me to save it."
"Qiongqi is asking for help?" Haikong murmured.
Douding then ran toward Qiongqi, but several monks immediately blocked him. "Let me go! My sister will take me there!" he insisted.
Yunxi raised her wrist. Tai Xu Ling pulled Douding along as they flew to Qiongqi's side.
Douding looked up at Rain Master Luo and asked, "Big sister, can you pull all the swords out of it? It won't hurt anyone anymore."
Rain Master Luo also wore a puzzled expression, while the frightened Wu looked at Douding and shouted, "Douding, is that really you?"
Douding turned to Wu, revealing a bright smile. "Brother Five."
Wu slapped himself in disbelief. "Am I seeing things? Have I entered an illusion?"
Douding looked at Rain Master Luo and said, "Big sister, you have to believe me. It won't hurt anyone."
"If you dare to act recklessly again, I'll destroy your demon core with a single sword strike," Rain Master Luo replied.
With a swift motion of her right hand, she pulled out several long swords that had been plunged into Qiongqi's body. Qiongqi let out a miserable cry as blood gushed from its wounds.
Douding walked towards Qiongqi. Chang Liulang quickly grabbed Douding and exclaimed, "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Douding broke free from Chang Liulang's grip. "Senior brother, it's fine."
Chang Liulang glanced at Sea Sky Abbot, who nodded slightly, signaling him to let Douding approach.
Trembling with fear, Douding moved closer to Qiongqi. The fierce beast struggled to stand up, and Douding appeared like a white rabbit before a lion. Yunxi's earring twirled as Rain Master Luo held her sword firmly in hand, while Master Hai Deng had a halo swirling around his hand.
Throughout history, there have been instances of ancient fierce beasts recognizing their masters. Emei Mountain once tamed an Abyssal Gold-eyed Beast, and the Serpent Cult captured the Panlong Remnant—a giant serpent capable of devouring fire seeds in molten lava. There were even accounts of people taming the eye-opening Hound Beast and descendants of the Azure Kirin.
The idea of taming Qiongqi was unheard of, yet this child seemed to be seeking help from it. Fierce beasts possess the pride of beast kings and find it difficult to submit or pledge loyalty to weaker humans. They do not choose the strong as their masters but here was one asking for aid from a child—no one knew why.
Qiongqi gazed down at the diminutive Douding and suddenly lowered its head, kneeling on its front limbs like a human before Douding.
The crowd was filled with shock, but what was even more unexpected was that layers of powerful and mysterious ancient runes suddenly appeared on Qiongqi's body. The runes shone brightly, emanating a terrifying aura. A red demon core floated out from the center of the runes, rising above Qiongqi's head and hovering in front of Douding.
"It really recognizes its master!" A group of Elders' eyes widened in disbelief. It was clear that this Qiongqi had been imprisoned for too long, rendering its powers dormant. If it were to regain its strength, it could rival the experts of the Mahayana Realm. This would be akin to capturing a master from the Mahayana Realm!
Having a master from the Mahayana Realm would place them on par with the Five Major Sects of the Daoist School, standing alongside the Five Major Sects!
Some people gritted their teeth in secret, their fists turning white with tension. However, judging by the atmosphere, many were protecting this unheard-of child. Could it be that this child was the illegitimate son of the Abbot from Leiyin Temple?
The most crucial question was why had the reclusive Buddhist Sect, which had avoided the world for years, suddenly intervened?
Douding stood before Qiongqi's massive head, picked up Qiongqi's inner core, sniffed it under his nose, and then placed it back down.
"What is he doing? What is he doing?!" Someone nearly spat out a mouthful of blood in frustration.
"Is this monk from Leiyin Temple just going to stare blankly?" an elderly man who was extremely fond of beast taming asked, cradling a Spirit Monkey that trembled in fear.
Chang Liulang and Yunxi were closest to Douding. Although they felt that Yunxi's earlier action of sniffing Qiongqi's inner core was somewhat strange and even a bit unsettling, they were relieved that the inner core did not smell pleasant. If it had been fragrant, they truly feared that this child might eat it.
Wu Ye could no longer bear to watch. He said, "Douding, whether it's a Divine Weapon recognizing its master or a beast acknowledging one, it's usually done through blood. You need to drop a drop of your blood onto Qiongqi's inner core. The Beast Core contains all its essence; once the inner core shatters, the beast will lose its power and quickly perish. Your blood will leave a mark on its inner core and its life Array Pattern, binding your fates together. If you die, the Beast Core will shatter immediately, and it will die along with you. Therefore, it will do everything in its power to protect you."
