Tai Xu Ling danced in the air like a dragon, following Yunxi as she descended from above. As Tai Xu Ling shrank and trailed behind her, Yunxi glanced back, her brow slightly furrowed in confusion.
A White-Haired Elder pointed at Yunxi, his tone unfriendly. "Hand over Tai Xu Ling to the Old Man!"
Yunxi looked at the White-Haired Elder among the crowd and asked, "What Tai Xu Ling?"
The White-Haired Elder snorted. "Girl, don't play dumb in front of the Old Man. The divine artifact has appeared; it is not something you deserve."
"Divine artifact?" Yunxi replied, puzzled. "That thing is right here; if you have the ability, go take it yourself."
"It seems you are asking for punishment instead of accepting a drink!" the White-Haired Elder shouted angrily and lunged at Yunxi.
Yunxi was perplexed; with so many people attacking and several sect leaders present who were more powerful than him, there was no need for her to seize Tai Xu Ling. Yet this old man chose to attack her without any explanation.
She stepped back to evade the elder's strike. "What do you mean by this?"
The White-Haired Elder said, "The divine artifact has appeared; those capable will claim it. This has been the rule of the Daoist Sect since ancient times. Can you protect such a treasure?"
He drew his Sword from his waist and thrust it toward Yunxi, Dao Qi surging forth, piercing the heavens with blinding white light—a manifestation of Dao Qi at its peak. Yunxi seized the elder's Sword, a chilling aura coursing through it and enveloping him entirely. The elder attempted to withdraw but it was too late; onlookers saw him exhale a breath of cold air and freeze in place, still poised for attack. A closer look revealed that his beard had frozen solid.
"Master!" "Sect Leader!" a group shouted as they rushed toward Yunxi with drawn swords.
Yunxi gently snapped the frozen sword in half and drew its edge across the White-Haired Elder's neck, which fell away with a thud. A young man, furious, shouted, "Demoness! I will avenge my master!"
The broken sword in Yunxi's hand turned to ice as she pointed it at the young man. The icy blade pierced his chest, causing him to recoil in pain. Seeing the murderous intent in Yunxi's eyes made him drop to his knees in fear. Yunxi coldly commanded, "Get lost!"
The young man abandoned his sword and fled, followed by his fellow disciples who scattered in panic.
"Amazing skills, young lady! You possess such extraordinary talent and an ethereal beauty. May I ask where your teachings come from?" an Emei Elder inquired.
The reason everyone hesitated to act earlier was their fear of Yunxi's potential background. They had never heard of such a woman within the Daoist Sect. Recently, rumors circulated that the long-hidden Supreme of Nanhai Guanyin Monastery had reemerged to select a disciple from among the women of Underworld Sect to inherit the Southern Sea Lineage. If this woman were indeed a descendant of Southern Sea Lineage, it would spell trouble for them all.
Since ancient times, no disciple of the Southern Sea Lineage, regardless of age, has ever been bullied. Many skeptics have attempted to challenge this, but all have met with death.
The old man who was frozen clearly met such a fate.
Yunxi said, "I have no master."
"No master?" The crowd was puzzled. An Elder of the Qingyun Sect asked, "Could it be that you are a disciple of the esteemed Miao Guanyin?"
"I do not know Miao Guanyin. I have no master, and this Tai Xu Ling is not mine. If you want it, go take it yourself and do not disturb me," Yunxi replied coldly as she walked past them.
"Stop!" the Elder of the Qingyun Sect said. "Since you have no master, is it appropriate for you to leave like this? Please hand over Tai Xu Ling to us and reveal how to control this artifact before we can let you go."
Yunxi glanced lightly at the Elder of the Qingyun Sect and turned to leave.
Furious, the Elder ignited with flames that enveloped his body like a Fire Demon descending from the heavens. He leaped into the air, surrounded by several flying dragons that charged at Yunxi.
Yunxi halted, her earring falling from her earlobe. Before the Elder could react, he spewed forth boiling blood as the earring pierced through his head and returned to hang beneath Yunxi's earlobe, untouched by blood.
"Impressive skills, young lady. Although these two deceased had it coming and were too abrupt in their questioning, you should indeed provide us with a reasonable explanation for why Tai Xu Ling is following you," an Elder from Arched Eyebrows remarked.
Yunxi turned to look at Tai Xu Ling. She reached out to touch it, but Tai Xu Ling recoiled like a startled snake. Yunxi said, "You saw it too; the artifact has a spirit. It is merely curious about me and is still choosing its master. If you truly have the ability, show off in front of it; perhaps it will take a liking to you as its master. I do not have time to waste here with your nonsense."
"Impudent! You reckless fool! You won't know your place until you've received some lessons!" an Emei Elder shouted as he flew forward, executing the Flower Washing Sword Technique.
Yunxi heard the rush of wind beside her and dodged aside just in time, a strand of her hair severed. Her earring darted toward the Emei Elder with agility. The Elder raised his sword to block it, but the Sword Body shattered under the impact, and he fell to the ground.
Yunxi declared, "I do not kill you because you are from Arched Eyebrows but because I do not wish to kill endlessly. Do not provoke me again!"
"What audacity!" A sharp voice echoed from afar as Emei Sect Leader Miao Shengnan approached on her sword.
"Greetings, Sect Leader!" an Emei disciple respectfully called out.
Everyone bowed in respect. Although the Arched Eyebrows Sect was weak among the Five Major Sects, it held an esteemed position within its own ranks. The Emei Sect Leader was a master of the Mahayana Realm, ranked as a Daoist Grandmaster, and she was known for her decisive actions. If provoked, she could easily annihilate an entire clan in a fit of rage.
Yunxi was merely at the Nascent Soul Realm, albeit in its later stages, but she stood no chance against Miao Shengnan from the Mahayana Realm.
Moreover, Tai Xu Ling had not recognized her as its master.
Miao Shengnan said, "I have indeed never heard of you in the Daoist Sect. If you weren't the new disciple of Miao Guanyin, who exactly are you?"
Yunxi glanced calmly at Miao Shengnan but did not respond.
"Fine, if you're going to be stubborn, then I'll just mar your face!" Miao Shengnan declared, drawing her sword and flying toward Yunxi.
"Old hag, don't hurt my sister!" A sudden shout rang out, clearly from a child's voice.
Everyone turned to see a young monk with a vermilion dot on his forehead running from the direction of Leiyin Temple. He rushed in front of Yunxi to shield her from Miao Shengnan's attack.
"Douding, what are you doing!"
"Compassionate Shifu Uncle! Come back quickly!"
The crowd rushed toward Douding. Miao Shengnan landed and looked at Haikong, the abbot of Leiyin Temple. "The master's disciple is so young; it seems he has an innate understanding of women."
The people from Leiyin Temple sighed in response, some feeling embarrassed. Chang Liulang remarked, "Amitabha! Miao Master’s words are sharper than swords; today has truly opened my eyes."
"Seeking death!" Miao Master swung her hand.
Chang Liulang flipped backward several times to narrowly avoid the strike. Miao Shengnan thrust her sword forward, and the Flying Sword detached from her grip, hurtling toward Chang Liulang.
As Chang Liulang saw the long sword coming at him with no way to dodge, he felt a rush of life-threatening danger. Just then, a golden light barrier appeared with a clang, blocking the Flying Sword. Cold sweat broke out on Chang Liulang's face as he quickly looked toward Sky Master and said, "Thank you for saving me, Abbot."
An old monk beside Haikong coughed and said, "You thanked the wrong person; I am Haideng."
Miao Shengnan looked at the old monk and said, "Shihai Deng, Shihai Kong, and the Buddhist Sect have already withdrawn from the conflict. You have been hanging on until now, and I have turned a blind eye to your presence near my Shu Mountain Emei. Are you here to seek trouble with me, Arched Eyebrows?"
"Not at all, Miao Master. I have long heard of your temper, but our Buddhist Sect is compassionate and aims to save lives. It is said that saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. Moreover, Chang Liulang is a lay disciple of my Leiyin Temple; we cannot act rashly," Haideng replied. He then added, "Otherwise, who would bother to fight with an old woman like you?"
After finishing his words, Haideng glanced towards Miao Shengnan and saw that she hadn't heard him, so he felt relieved. However, the disciples around him had all heard it and displayed expressions of shock.
Haikong cleared his throat, signaling Haideng to be mindful of his image. He turned to Miao Shengnan and said, "Miao Master, this lay disciple of Leiyin Temple is merely acting out of concern for his fellow disciple. Please be understanding. As for the Tai Xu Ling artifact, we at Leiyin Temple do not intend to compete for it."
Miao Shengnan snorted and then turned her gaze towards Yunxi and Douding.
Moments earlier, when Yunxi heard Chang Liulang refer to the monk as Douding, she was shocked. When she saw the monk running towards her, she thought she was seeing things because this child was the very one who had lain with her in the Ice Coffin under the Mountain Snow Pool just a few months ago!
Douding turned his head and smiled at Yunxi, saying, "Sister, I feel like I know you. Your aura feels very familiar; I've seen you in my dreams."
Yunxi asked, "Your name is Douding? Do you know Yang Hao?"
Douding looked curious and replied, "How do you know? Are you Sister Yunxi?"
Yunxi nodded. Three months ago, he had suddenly awakened from the Ice Coffin with much greater power than before and even possessed the ability to control water and ice. She recalled how Yang Hao had given her a water orb and speculated that perhaps it had saved him. Beside her, under the Snow Lotus, lay a charming boy—Douding—who was brought to her by Yang Hao just before her death.
Before leaving, Yunxi noticed a golden light emanating from Douding's forehead and transferred some of her Water Linglong's Spirit Energy into him. To her surprise, this child had also come back to life.
Douding was overjoyed as he grabbed Yunxi's arm and said, "Sister, you don't know! Brother Yang Hao has been looking for you for a long time. Once I saw him almost crying because he missed you so much."
Yunxi smiled and asked, "How do you know he was thinking about me?"
"I just know! Sister, you're so beautiful; who wouldn't like you? Why don't you wait until I grow up and marry me?" Douding giggled.
Yunxi smiled sweetly and replied, "I don't want to get married yet."
"Then I'll marry you!" Douding said with a mischievous expression.
"Hmph, I knew that bald donkey was up to no good!" Miao Shengnan said.
"Be careful with your words!" Haikong reminded.
Douding snorted, glaring at Miao Shengnan. "Even if you asked me to marry you, I wouldn't! Your temper is unbearable; it's really annoying!"
"I'll castrate you right now and see who you'll marry!" Miao Shengnan retorted fiercely, hitting a sore spot.
Douding jumped back in fright, hiding behind Yunxi. But then he remembered he was there to protect her and stood firm in front of her. He looked at the floating Tai Xu Ling and said, "Since you like Sister Yunxi too, why don't you come down and protect her?"
It was a child's innocent remark, but unexpectedly, Tai Xu Ling suddenly shot straight toward Douding. Douding screamed as if he saw a red dragon flying at him. Yunxi unleashed her Dao Qi to create a barrier, stopping Tai Xu Ling mid-air, hovering at human height. It slowly approached Douding, disregarding Yunxi's Dao Qi. Douding reached out to touch Tai Xu Ling.
"Douding, be careful!" Chang Liulang warned.
Douding made a shushing gesture and then touched one corner of Tai Xu Ling. Tai Xu Ling circled around Douding's arm, tickling him and making him laugh uncontrollably. "No, no! I don't want you; you're Sister Yunxi's. She looks better with you."
Douding pulled Tai Xu Ling off himself and draped it over Yunxi's shoulder. Tai Xu Ling wrapped around Yunxi's arm and spun around her once before cascading down like colorful Crimson Silk on either side of her arms. Behind Yunxi, Tai Xu Ling expanded dramatically, generating countless strands of flying Crimson Silk that enveloped the entire area, resembling the Thousand-Handed Avalokiteshvara.
Once Yunxi donned Tai Xu Ling, she appeared even more ethereal, radiating an otherworldly aura that made her seem like a celestial being lost in the mortal realm. A white misty glow emanated from her body.
"She really acknowledges her as her master!" The crowd gasped in awe while feeling a sense of injustice since Tai Xu Ling didn't even glance at them.
At that moment, Miao Shengnan suddenly attacked Yunxi. Yunxi pushed Douding aside; the Tai Xu Ling on her wrist flew out and pierced through the void.
Miao Shengnan was startled, feeling an immense pressure surround her. A faint cracking sound echoed as a segment of Tai Xu Ling emerged from the void and wrapped around Miao Shengnan.
Miao Shengnan swung her sword at Tai Xu Ling. The sword light passed through Tai Xu Ling as if it were nothing; however, when Tai Xu Ling struck Miao Shengnan, it felt like a heavy blow. Miao Shengnan's Dao Qi protected her from the attack; her power was a hundred times greater than Yunxi's. If they were of the same level, that strike would have been fatal.
Miao Shengnan broke into a cold sweat as Emei Elder commanded, "Capture this Demoness!"
A group of Emei Elders and disciples surrounded them. Yunxi calmly observed everyone as Tai Xu Ling floated out from her body and began to explode like a vast expanse. Miao Shengnan sensed an overwhelming killing intent; she shouted angrily and unleashed Phantom Layers, creating countless clones that appeared in the air to strike at Yunxi. In an instant, Tai Xu Ling moved with uncanny speed through the air, cutting through all the clones in an instant as they vanished without a trace.
Miao Shengnan felt a surge of internal energy block her, causing her to spit out a mouthful of blood. Gritting her teeth, she gripped her long sword tightly. The sword's light surged violently as the Flower Washing Sword Technique unleashed a Sword Rain that blossomed in the air, dazzling like stars, slashing towards the Tai Xu Ling above. The brilliance of the sword forced everyone to retreat, and Yunxi also sensed a deadly threat; without the Tai Xu Ling, she would have no chance of survival against such an attack.
The Tai Xu Ling was severed by a single strike, and Miao Shengnan scoffed, "Even a divine artifact is nothing special."
However, her eyes nearly bulged out in disbelief as the Tai Xu Ling reattached itself automatically. It coiled around her sword and pulled towards the void, forcing Miao Shengnan to release her grip. The void trembled with a tinkling sound as a piece of scrap metal fell from above her head.
"My Remaining Sun Sword!" Miao Shengnan exclaimed angrily. Her Daoist Robe fluttered without wind, filled with murderous intent. A person at the Mahayana Realm could easily kill someone at the Nascent Soul Realm; even with a divine artifact, the Nascent Soul Realm individual would inevitably fall in a desperate struggle.
Just then, the Tai Xu Ling suddenly flew off in another direction. Not far behind everyone stood a woman beside a sand pit, dressed in neutral clothing with short hair, clutching the struggling Tai Xu Ling.
"Yushi Luo," Miao Shengnan gasped in surprise.
"Senior Sister, it's the Grand Senior Sister!" the disciples of Arched Eyebrows cheered.
"Senior Sister, the Tai Xu Ling is a divine artifact; we must retrieve it!" one disciple urged.
Miao Shengnan looked at Rain Master Luo, her face showing a hint of guilt. "Yushi Luo, I'm so glad you're not dead. I—"
"You are you; I am I." Before Miao Shengnan could finish, Rain Master Luo interrupted coldly, her voice devoid of emotion. "In the battle at Huashan, the Rain Master Luo of Arched Eyebrows has already died. I have been expelled from Arched Eyebrows; from now on, I have no connection to Arched Eyebrows."
"Yushi Luo, you..." Miao Shengnan felt a pang in her heart.
Rain Master Luo continued, "This divine artifact may be powerful enough to attack enemies autonomously, but it is ultimately an external object. Even if Arched Eyebrows manages to seize it, Supreme can take it as easily as reaching into a pocket. Right now, Bai is trapped in this sand pit with an uncertain fate. Are you still here fighting over this artifact when lives are at stake?"
With that, Rain Master Luo released her hold on the Tai Xu Ling and jumped into the hundred-meter-deep sand pit. The Tai Xu Ling hesitated for a moment before vanishing into thin air and reappearing around Yunxi without further movement.
An Emei Elder remarked, "I almost forgot; didn't Bai Xiaoxiang bring his disciples here to seek treasures? Where have they all gone?"
The elders from various sects began to murmur among themselves; their own disciples had come here too but were nowhere to be seen now.
Everyone approached the sand pit and saw that it was stained red with blood and littered with mouse corpses. Occasionally, they spotted skeletons that had been gnawed beyond recognition.
Brother Five walked to the side of the sand pit, his brow furrowed. "I can smell Brother Five's presence."
Deep within a hidden door of the sand pit, through numerous tunnels and mechanisms, lay a vast underground palace. Everything inside was crafted from gold and silver. Surrounding the palace were murals depicting a life of indulgence. Above, on a Golden Throne and Jade Table, a beautifully crafted Silver Wine Flask was tipped over, pouring out a liquid rich in Spirit Energy.
In the center of the grand hall was a pool, emanating misty Spirit Energy. The entire pool was filled with the underground spring beneath the desert, and within it, three bare-chested men were soaking and laughing.
The plumpest youth counted the towers behind him and raised a golden goblet towards a dark-skinned young man. "Cheers!"
The dark-skinned youth laughed heartily. "Five, among us, you are the best at showing off! You, who always messes things up, actually chose the right door this time!"
Wu Ye laughed loudly, his face full of pride. "Just trust me; you won't be disappointed!"
The two clinked their cups again and drank it all down, soaking in the spring while enjoying their spirit wine, unable to stop laughing.
Meanwhile, Iron Bull was grooming a tuft of thick hair on his chest.
They had been soaking here for quite some time; Spirit Energy was seeping from their pores. Five had brought Huzi and Iron Bull into this Daoist Sect. Even within the hall, they had never felt this carefree; if cultivation were always like this, everyone would be fighting to cultivate.
"How did you know there was such a good place in this Daoist Sect? Did you guess?" Huzi asked.
Five widened his eyes. "How could it be a guess? It was this tower that reminded me. There’s a pulling force drawing me here. The others are fools, picking up big doors without realizing this is where Narrow Escape truly lies."
"What kind of treasure is this tower? It's incredible! Just twisting it brings new surprises and leads us here," Huzi said.
Wudao replied, "It should be the key to this place and also an extraordinary treasure."
"Should I twist it too?" Huzi asked curiously.
Wudao said, "Maybe not yet; let's focus on improving our skills here first before twisting it."
"Let’s twist it now; we’ve had enough to drink anyway, and my skin is all wrinkled from soaking," Huzi insisted.
"Alright then, let's see what the next step is." Wu said, picking up the tower behind him.
Huzi snatched the tower away, twisting it forcefully. A click echoed, followed by a loud rumble as the golden seat above the palace shifted, startling the three of them.
Above the palace, a large door slowly opened, releasing a fragrant aroma of wine. The three of them lazily lounged in the spiritual spring, reluctant to move, wanting to soak a little longer until they heard heavy footsteps approaching from inside the door.
Wu and Huzi exchanged excited glances. "It's a wave of beauties coming," Wu said.
Huzi corrected him, "It's a wave of stunning beauties!"
Both of them wore lewd grins, and Iron Bull chuckled beside them. However, their amusement quickly faded as they caught a whiff of something fishy amidst the rich scent of wine.
Their eyes widened as a beast emerged from the doorway, larger and more muscular than an ox, covered in blood.
It was Qiongqi.
