The beast saw that I wasn't eating, so it jumped onto me and stuffed a pill into my mouth. I swallowed a Ning Yuan Dan, and the beast chuckled, chewing on the remaining one itself, its mouth puffed up round.
As the beast was eating, it jumped onto the table and grabbed other medicine bottles. I pushed it aside and collected the bottles, as these were all top-quality pills that could rival Holy Medicine in efficacy within the Divine Transformation Realm. I had seen them in the medicinal texts, but refining them was extremely difficult; timing and temperature had to be precise. Even if I knew how to refine them, I simply didn't have the time.
"The Yang Family has so many pills; it shouldn't be hard to cultivate peers," I said.
Having been fed a Ning Yuan Dan by the beast, I felt warmth in my abdomen and sat on the bed to refine it. My Qi Sea was golden, unlike that of ordinary people, so although the potency of the Ning Yuan Dan was fierce, it felt normal to me. I then took a Golden Marrow Strengthening Pill and refined it. Two hours later, I awoke from my meditation, with a fragrant scent emanating from my pores.
If anyone else had taken the Golden Marrow Strengthening Pill, they would surely be reeking of foulness. However, having consumed a large amount of precious materials, I had already achieved a Holy Body, so there were no impurities within me at all. Thus, the Golden Marrow Strengthening Pill could only serve to enhance my power.
I also took Spirit Transformation Pills and Haoning Blood Pills, continuing to refine until I awakened again after another two hours.
"Dao Qi and Soul Power have advanced further; I've reached the late stage of Divine Transformation Realm. These pills are indeed powerful," I thought to myself as I pushed open the door.
There was no one in the courtyard. I stepped outside and followed the path down the mountain to the Yang Family's Martial Arts Arena. Inside the dojo, a group of children were practicing their punches earnestly. A middle-aged man in training attire was correcting the posture of a seven or eight-year-old child while explaining the principles.
Upon seeing me, the middle-aged man clapped his hands to get all the children to stop and pointed at me. "Children, this is our Yang Family's top talent, Yang Hao! He is now a master in the Divine Transformation Realm."
The children looked at me with admiration and cheered my name. One child shouted, "Brother Yang Hao teaches us Daoist Arts!"
"Brother Yang Hao teaches us Daoist Arts!" echoed a chorus of voices from the group.
"Nonsense! Your Brother Yang Hao's Daoist Arts are Ultimate Techniques! You haven't even learned how to walk yet you want to run," scolded the middle-aged man.
I stopped him and said to the children, "Then I'll teach you a fun Daoist Art."
I flicked my fingers, and a rosebud from the flowerbed beside the Martial Arts Arena flew into each child's hands wrapped in Dao Qi. Holding a bud in my hand, I gently blew on it, and in an instant, flowers bloomed beautifully.
All the children exclaimed, eager for me to teach them. I said, "Inject a little bit of Dao Qi into the Bud, keep your own Dao Qi and the Dao Qi in the Bud flowing smoothly, and just blow on it."
These children had already cultivated their Dao Qi, and immediately three or five of them made the Bud bloom. They jumped with joy, showing off to their friends who were also having fun. However, the rest of the children couldn't make their flowers blossom and looked disappointed.
"You all practice diligently, and in the future, you will definitely be better than me," I told the children. With that, I nodded at the middle-aged man and walked out of the Martial Arts Arena. The middle-aged man nodded back at me.
Outside the Martial Arts Arena, leaves were swirling down on the Azure Stone Path. An old man in tattered clothes was bent over sweeping the ground. I couldn't help but feel puzzled; this was my first time seeing a servant of the Yang Family looking so shabby.
"The leaves have fallen, blocking your view," the old man suddenly said.
I turned to look at him, but he continued sweeping without paying me any mind. I turned back as if nothing had happened.
"What does this old man mean? Is he reminding me that a single leaf can obscure my vision of Mount Tai?" I thought to myself.
Everything happening in the Yang Family felt familiar to me. Over the years, I had wandered alone; aside from my mother, I had never felt much of a sense of home. Especially after leaving Futu Ridge to venture into the Daoist Sect, the deceit among people had left me disheartened.
But now in the Yang Family, this was the life I longed for.
I walked for an unknown amount of time until I reached a lakeside. A Boardwalk led to a Pavilion in the lake, where a girl dressed in red sat inside.
I approached her and asked, "Miss, what are you doing here all alone?"
The girl looked nervous and replied, "I... I'm watching the fish."
"What's your name?" I asked her.
The girl said, "My name is Yang Wanru."
"I am Yang Hao," I introduced myself while sitting in the Pavilion.
Yang Wanru replied, "I know you."
"From yesterday at the Ancestral Hall?" I asked.
Yang Wanru shook her head and then nodded.
I smiled and said, "What does shaking your head and then nodding mean?"
Yang Wanru looked at me without speaking. I asked again, "Which bastard from the Yang Family are you? Where are your parents?"
"My parents are dead; it's just me and my grandfather," Yang Wanru said, pointing behind me.
I turned to look, and there stood an old man in tattered clothes by the shore. The old man said, "Wanru, let's go back with Grandpa."
Yang Wanru ran over and supported the old man's arm as they walked away. She turned back to me and said, "Yang Hao, will you come play with me tomorrow?"
I replied, "Sure, I'll definitely come."
Watching the grandfather and granddaughter leave, I sat in the Pavilion for a long time before returning to Zhengxin Hall.
For the next few days, I would come to the Pavilion by the lakeside every morning. I taught the girl some simple Daoist Arts, and she taught me a similar Daoist Art—Crane Tracking.
This inevitably reminded me of the time when I first entered the Daoist World and was chased by Si Tu Nan of the Serpent Cult. I had nearly died several times due to such Daoist Arts. The Paper Crane Tracking Technique utilizes the wandering souls of insects around me, incorporating those souls into a Crane to seek out places, people, or objects I wanted to find. It takes several years to master, but this kind of Daoist Arts posed no difficulty for me; I could almost learn it in an instant.
During this time, Yang Xuanzong would send someone with elixirs regularly, and the potency of these elixirs grew stronger each time, with no two having the same name. It seemed he feared I might become immune to their effects. Meanwhile, Yang Long had not sought me out again, seemingly aware that I was taking elixirs daily and thus did not disturb me.
Finally, it was the Double Ninth Festival. I woke up early and went to the lake at the foot of the mountain, but Yang Wanru was not in the Pavilion. For the past few days, we had been playing together, stacking Thousand Paper Cranes and chasing each other; whoever got caught by the other's Crane would lose. Sometimes I would deliberately let her win, enjoying her laughter that made her look like a blooming flower.
I followed the path she usually took back home and found her residence, a dilapidated Tile House. Upon opening the door, I saw her lying on the bed, looking pale.
When Yang Wanru saw me, she quickly sat up. I pressed her arm down gently to make her lie back down. She asked, "Brother, why are you here?"
I replied, "You’re sick; why haven’t you taken your medicine? Where’s your grandfather?"
Yang Wanru said, "Grandfather went out to sweep."
"Then I'll brew some medicine for you," I said.
Yang Wanru asked, "Brother, do you know medicine?"
I nodded and replied, "I've read a few books on Nourishing Soul Fruit. You've caught a Cold Wind; I'm sure you'll feel better after just one dose."
After some busy work, I brought the medicinal soup for treating Cold Wind to Yang Wanru. She said, "Brother, I picked some Daphne from Nanshan; can you help me place it at the door?"
"Sure, I'll help you with the Daphne after you finish your medicine," I said while feeding her.
Once she finished taking her medicine, I went to the entrance and noticed a bundle of Daphne lying on the ground. I placed the Daphne atop both doors.
I turned back to look at Yang Wanru inside the house, seeing her eyes slightly squinted, as if she was sleepy. I tucked her in with a blanket, quietly closed the door, and left. Behind me, I heard Yang Wanru mumbling, "Brother, the wind at Nanshan is strong; my heart feels cold."
I walked out of the Tile House and returned to Zhengxin Hall. As I passed by the Martial Arts Arena, I asked a middle-aged man training the children, "Excuse me, brother, where is Nanshan located?"
The middle-aged man pointed to a hill behind Zhengxin Hall and said, "It's right over there. It used to be the place where rebellious clansmen were executed. Now it's just a desolate mountain. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, I was just curious, trying to learn more about our Yang Family," I replied before bidding him farewell.
Upon returning to Zhengxin Hall, I found Yang Long anxiously waiting in the courtyard. He said, "Brother, where have you been? I've been waiting for you for a long time."
"Is there something urgent?" I asked.
Yang Long replied, "Did you forget today is my day for refining the Condensing Pill? Come on, we need to go. The family head just sent someone to hurry me."
I said, "Maybe it's best if you go alone, brother. I've just entered the late stage of the Divine Transformation Realm and need more time to consolidate my power. Besides, if I'm not there, no one will compete for your position."
"What are you talking about? We're brothers; there's no need for such formality. Let's go together. I refuse to believe I'm worse than you," Yang Long insisted as he threw an arm around my shoulder and led me toward the Yang Family Imperial Hall.
When we arrived at the Yang Family Imperial Hall, all the high-ranking members of the Yang Family were present, seemingly in a meeting. Yang Xuanzong, sitting in a high position, looked down and called for silence among those who were offering advice.
As Yang Long and I entered the main hall, we greeted Yang Xuanzong. He nodded and said, "Today is the Double Ninth Festival and also the day for our clan's successor to refine their Condensing Pill. Therefore, all matters are paused. Nine Elders, follow me to the back hall at the Longevity Pool. We must gather all three Holy Medicines from the Herb Garden. We cannot let any of the Holy Medicine Spirit Energy leak."
