Once, Li Chang'an was just a commoner, with no known master. After stepping into the world, he wielded the Transcendent Hand and rampaged through the Daoist World, defeating his peers and leaving no one able to challenge him. Later, he met Cloud Sea, the Old Sect Leader of the Azure Cloud Sect. The two bonded over their shared values and became brothers.
Decades ago, Li Chang'an suddenly began a massacre against members of the Daoist Sect, including several from the Yinshan Yang Family. This incident alarmed the Old Scholar.
Upon hearing that Li Chang'an was an unparalleled master nearing sixty years of age, with extraordinary skills that many sects could not contend with, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She personally set out to kill Li Chang'an and announced his death.
From that point on, the Underworld Sect believed Li Chang'an was dead. Although there were later rumors of older generations spotting him, they were ultimately proven false.
I had inquired about Li Chang'an's name while at Azure Cloud Mountain, asking Li Lao directly. At that time, Li Lao candidly mentioned his name. Initially, I did not take it seriously because I had asked many disciples from various sects, and no one knew who Li Chang'an was. He did not belong to the Inner Sect elders nor to the Outer Sect elders, yet he managed to reside within the Azure Cloud Sect consistently, indicating his status was certainly not low. Later, when I entered the Inner Sect and had less contact with Li Lao, he remained absent even until the downfall of the Azure Cloud Sect.
I knew that Li Lao's skills were extraordinary but did not expect them to be this high—on par with the leaders of the Five Major Sects. This meant his power surpassed even Yunxi's.
Dongfang Jiu looked at Li Chang'an and said, "Li Chang'an truly deserves to be called the first under Supreme. I wonder what you've been doing hiding in the world for so long."
Li Chang'an replied, "Reading books and playing mahjong."
Dongfang Jiu laughed heartily, and Li Chang'an joined in his laughter. Eastern Nine remarked, "You old man are quite humorous."
Li Chang'an responded, "You're just stating obvious truths."
"Shut up," Nangong interjected, already tired of hearing them. Today, no one would take Yang Hao away—not even Li Chang'an. To me, being the first under Supreme is merely a joke."
Nangong gestured with his hand as Dao Fire shot out. Li Chang'an did not even flinch; he merely waved his sleeve, causing Nangong's Dao Fire to dissipate instantly.
Nangong frowned as crimson flames blazed around him. He pointed at Li Chang'an again; the True Fire of Taiyi surged forth once more. Again, Li Chang'an waved his sleeve, and Nangong's True Fire of Taiyi vanished without a trace. The crowd gasped in astonishment. Dongfang Jiu looked at Nangong curiously and asked, "Brother Nangong, this time you won't be a paper man again, will you?"
Nangong Dao replied, "This time I have come personally. The True Fire of Taiyi can burn everything—even voids cannot escape its flames. This Li Chang'an possesses a Taoist Sacred Artifact."
"Oh," Dongfang Jiu said while looking at Li Chang'an. "I wonder what treasures you old man carry; it would be nice for me to have a look and satisfy my curiosity."
Li Chang'an replied, "If this old man doesn’t show you, will you suffocate from holding it in?"
Dongfang Jiu smiled awkwardly and coldly said to the person beside him, "Kill."
The Elders of the Sword Pavilion all flew out, their figures flashing like lightning in broad daylight. They surrounded Li Chang'an, who, undaunted, struck one of the Elders with a palm. A sword grazed him from behind, but Li Chang'an remained calm, forming a seal with his hands. In the air, the clouds twisted mysteriously as a gigantic hand gathered together and came crashing down.
"Scatter," Eastern Nine commanded.
Nine White Shadows dispersed into the crowd. Li Chang'an snorted as the cloud hand dissipated. Just then, a beam of sword light shot down from the clouds.
"Li Lao's heart," I reminded.
Li Chang'an looked up and immediately used Transcendent Hand to grasp at the sword light. Dongfang Jiu smirked, his index finger trembling as the sword light exploded, sending Li Chang'an flying.
Li Chang'an's Dao Qi protected his body as he said, "After all these years without fighting, this child is mine to take. We'll compete again next time."
With that, Li Chang'an retreated to my side. He made a swift motion with his foot, and a circle of runes lit up, intertwining chaotically as the void twisted.
"This is bad; it's the Thousand Li Talisman! Quickly stop him!" Eastern Nine shouted.
The nearest Emei Sect Leader Miao Shengnan and Wudang Sect Leader Zhang Ziling both acted to stabilize the void. The seven Elders of Wudang also executed the Seven Star Sword Formation in an attempt to hold it steady. However, the Thousand Li Talisman was an escape talisman, each one incredibly precious and capable of ignoring the laws of space to instantly travel thousands of miles away—especially when used by a master, making it even harder to contain.
Moments later, Li Chang'an and I appeared in a deep mountain marsh. Before us stood an altar, its runes surging as if connected to the runes beneath our feet. If I guessed correctly, this Thousand Li Talisman was directional; that is to say, Li Chang'an had brought me to a place that had been prepared in advance.
"Thank you for saving my life, Li Lao," I said.
Li Chang'an nodded and replied, "Follow me."
I asked, "Are we still in Kunlun Mountain? This marsh is surrounded by ancient trees."
"This is Yin Mountain," Li Chang'an said.
I frowned because mentioning Yin Mountain naturally brought Yang Family to mind.
"Don't be nervous, no one will harm you. I believe you want to meet this person," Li Chang'an said.
I felt a mix of surprise and uncertainty as I followed Li Lao, crossing a cloud bridge made of iron chains. Finally, I saw a massive structure in the distance.
In front of a mountain gate stood two enormous statues of giant spirits, towering even higher than the Leshan Giant Buddha. The craftsmanship left me utterly astonished. Between the two giant spirit statues, a stone staircase led upward, shrouded in swirling mist. At the top of the staircase, I saw a group of people standing.
At the forefront was none other than the head of the Yinshan Yang Family, Yang Xuanzong.
"Li Lao, you brought me to the Yinshan Yang Family; you are one of the Yang Family," I asked with a hint of accusation in my voice.
"That's right, I am part of the Yang Family," Li Chang'an replied.
"Then what about the Old Scholar's attempt to kill you back then? Was that all a lie?" I questioned.
Li Chang'an hesitated for a moment before saying, "To be honest, you should call me Great-Grandfather because I am the second son of the Old Scholar. The reason for changing my name and surname was to gain some reputation within the Daoist Sect; all of this was arranged by the Old Scholar."
"Then why were you at Azure Cloud Sect?" I asked, a terrifying thought crossing my mind. The Old Scholar was known for his cunning and mastery of Divination Technique; could he have foreseen even me?
"The original intention was to monitor the Western Divine Serpent Sect since their headquarters is very close to Azure Cloud Sect," Li Chang'an explained.
"Then why did you do nothing when Azure Cloud Sect was in danger? I've heard that you were on very good terms with the Old Sect Leader," I pressed further.
Just as Li Chang'an was about to respond, Yang Xuanzong's voice rang out from ahead: "Second brother, now that you've brought your grandson Yang Hao home, why are we still standing outside?"
"Apologies for keeping you waiting, Family Head," Li Chang'an replied.
I felt anxious; just moments ago, I had been surrounded by people attacking me. Although I had escaped danger, I found myself at the Yang Family's doorstep with no way to flee.
Following Li Chang'an forward, he bowed respectfully to Yang Xuanzong. "Family Head, there's no need for formalities among family. We wouldn't want to make the child feel awkward," Yang Xuanzong said immediately.
"I was being overly formal; Family Head, this is Yang Hao," Li Chang'an introduced me while pointing at me.
I looked at Yang Xuanzong and asked, "You are Yang Xuanzong, then who is that at Kunlun Mountain? Your Dao Body?"
"How dare you, Yang Hao! You show no respect to the family head, do not bow when returning to the clan, and call the family head by name. Do you really think so highly of yourself?" a young man from the Yang Family scolded.
"What nonsense! No one can compare to you," a handsome and refined young man angrily retorted. "Yang Hao is my cousin; he is your elder brother. Apologize to him!"
"Why should I call an outsider 'brother'? This branch of the family is full of traitors who have betrayed the Yang Family and deserve punishment," the boy replied defiantly.
"Enough!" Yang Xuanzong scolded as well.
Hearing Yang Xuanzong's reprimand, the boy quickly lowered his head and dared not speak further. Yang Xuanzong said, "Get back where you belong; this is not a place for you to speak."
After finishing, Yang Xuanzong turned to me and said, "Hao, you don't need to pay attention to this brat. My Yang Family is not as feudal as the outside world claims. This kid has been arrogant for too long; unlike the disciples who have traveled outside, he lacks understanding and respect. He will only provoke my anger. In the future, while you're in the clan, make sure to keep him in check. No one will dare to touch you."
I respectfully replied, "Great-Grandfather is joking. My cousin has a straightforward temperament; I didn't take it to heart."
"That's good. Let's head home," Yang Xuanzong said.
I glanced at Li Chang'an, following behind Yang Xuanzong. He continued, "You just asked who the Yang Xuanzong at Kunlun Mountain was; that was not my Dao Body but merely a relative of mine from the Yang Family who looks like me. The real reason I arranged for your rescue is that our Ancestor's time is running out. He heard about you and wants to meet you."
