Human Sacrifice
Zhang Xing's eyes were filled with pity as he placed his hand over Zhang Yue's heart. No matter how much Zhang Yue struggled, it was futile. A cruel smile soon spread across his face as he slowly plunged his hand into the area of Zhang Yue's heart. Blood pooled around Zhang Yue's heart, and despite his desperate attempts to push Zhang Xing away, he quickly fell still.
Zhang Yue's soul was absorbed by Zhang Xing, his Qi Sea shattered, blood flowing backward as his body withered away. He lay there, lifeless on the stone.
Zhang Xing clenched his fists, a look of ecstasy on his face. "This truly is an unprecedented ease, like being reborn. Hmm?"
Hearing a noise, Zhang Xing looked up toward the top of the waterfall, where a White-Haired Youth stood. The youth carried five swords on his back and wore a look of confusion and pity in his eyes.
Zhang Xing asked, "Who are you?"
The White-Haired Youth did not answer but murmured to himself, "Is this how the world is? Even brothers turn against each other."
After speaking, the White-Haired Youth walked toward the Kunlun Secret Realm.
Zhang Xing gazed at the lifeless body of Zhang Yue on the stone. With a flicker of Dao Fire in his hand, he incinerated Zhang Yue until nothing remained but ash. He growled fiercely, "Yang Hao, Song Qianqiu, just you wait!"
At the entrance to the Kunlun Secret Realm, more and more people gathered. Not far away, Wu, Huzi, and Iron Bull approached. Huzi said, "Shouldn't we go look for Hao? What if something happens to them?"
Wudao replied, "Don't worry; if anything happens to anyone, Haozi will be fine. When the Beast Tide comes, he’ll be with his girlfriend. They’re probably hiding in some bushes right now doing who knows what."
Iron Bull chuckled in agreement.
Huzi exchanged glances with Wu Mianmian and turned to Iron Bull. "What are you laughing about?"
Iron Bull shook his head and said, "The boss is like a deity descended from heaven; he’ll be fine."
Soon after, the trio reached the entrance of the secret realm where disciples from various sects had gathered. Those who made it to the Kunlun Secret Realm amidst the Beast Tide and murder were all elite disciples from their respective sects.
Listening to the discussions around him and observing the entrance to the secret realm, Wu remarked, "It seems that along our journey, aside from Divine Serpent Sect's Nangong Lin obtaining a Holy Medicine and Haozi getting two, no one else has gained anything. How strange."
"Huzi said, 'Hao has the Zhou Compass, so it's not surprising that he can quickly find the Holy Medicine, right?'
Wudao shook his head and replied, 'That's not it. The problem is that there are too few Holy Medicines. Rear Kunlun is many times larger than Former Kunlun. Yaochi Sacred Land has been established for over a thousand years, and no one has entered Rear Kunlun during that time. There must be plenty of Holy Medicines inside, not just those brought in by the Azure Pool Spirit Bird. There should have been quite a few Holy Medicines, even Medicine Kings, but we haven't seen any or heard anyone mention them.'
'Now that you mention it, I find it strange too. We really haven't seen any decent herbs along the way. Could they have all been eaten by the beasts?' Huzi asked.
Wudao replied, 'There are mostly beasts in Rear Kunlun. We've walked this far without seeing a single rabbit or wild chicken. How could there be many herbivorous creatures? And look at the entrance to the secret realm; the explosion earlier was so loud, yet the barrier at the Kunlun entrance was unaffected. The secret lies within the secret realm.'
As soon as Wudao finished speaking, a tall young man in red battle armor approached with a group of people. Wudao squinted at the tall youth and said, 'Nangong Lin.'
Huzi remarked, 'Is this the Young Master Nangong Lin that everyone talks about from the Serpent Cult?'
Wudao confirmed, 'Yes, he's Nangong's son. One day, I'll wipe out these bastards to avenge Douding.'
Wudao couldn't help but recall Douding from their time at Qingliang Temple. He had known Douding for many years and watched him grow from a small boy. Hearing that Douding had died at the hands of the Serpent Cult always left him feeling distressed.
As everyone saw Nangong Lin arrive, they clasped their fists in greeting. Nangong Lin stood with his hands behind his back, ignoring them as he looked toward the entrance of the Kunlun Secret Realm and asked, 'Is there anyone here skilled in breaking formations and barriers?'
Dongfang Zhen replied, 'If there were someone skilled, would we still be waiting here?'
'Nangong Lin instructed an elder behind him, 'Elder Peng, why don't you give it a try?' Elder Peng nodded and stepped forward to investigate. After a while, he turned back and said, 'Young Master, this barrier was not set up by humans.'
Dongfang Zhen burst into laughter at this remark. 'If it wasn't set up by humans, then was it arranged by gods?'
Elder Peng responded seriously, 'It's very likely set up by some powerful beast or formed naturally as a protective barrier.'
'That's nonsense!' Dongfang Zhen retorted.
Nangong Lin frowned and looked at Dongfang Zhen. 'Whose disciple are you? Such a lack of manners!'
'Impudent!' a group of Sword Sect Disciples shouted angrily."
The members of the Serpent Cult drew their swords, and Nangong Lin raised his hand to signal the crowd behind him to remain calm. He looked at Dongfang Zhen and said, "It seems they are from the Sword Pavilion. I've heard that the swordsmanship of Dongfang Yuqing from the Sword Pavilion is extraordinary. I, Nangong Lin, am eager to see just how extraordinary it truly is."
"So you are Nangong Lin. I thought you were some kind of three-headed, six-armed monster," Dongfang Zhen replied. "I am Dongfang Zhen, the eldest disciple of the Sword Pavilion. That traitor Dongfang Yuqing has already been expelled from the Sword Pavilion, so do not mention him again. As for you, I hear you've obtained a Holy Medicine; show it to me."
Nangong Lin smiled and said, "If you want to see my Holy Medicine, it's not impossible. Just take off your pants so I can check if you've grown any hair. If you have, then I'll show it to you."
The people around them burst into laughter, but Dongfang Zhen was furious. He pointed at Nangong Lin and shouted, "You dare to mock me? You're asking for death!"
With that, Dongfang Zhen threw a punch at Nangong Lin. Nangong Lin stood still, watching as Dongfang Zhen's fist came toward him. He placed two fingers on Dongfang Zhen's pulse and lightly tapped; Dongfang Zhen's body shook violently and was sent flying.
Dongfang Zhen's face turned pale as he wielded his Shadowless Sword and slashed at Nangong Lin. Flames erupted around Nangong Lin as he saw the flickering flames and remarked, "What a strange feeling; it turns out to be the Shadowless Sword!"
With a burst of fire, Nangong Lin launched a fiery punch at Dongfang Zhen, sending him flying backward. Nangong Lin followed closely behind like a shadow and struck at Dongfang Zhen mid-air.
An Elder of the Sword Pavilion trembled as he appeared beside Dongfang Zhen, catching him and pulling him aside. "Nangong Young Master, please temper your anger. My nephew is still young and not your match; I ask you to show mercy."
Dongfang Zhen broke free from the Elder's protection and shouted angrily, "Who asked for your interference?"
As the flames dissipated, Nangong Lin returned to his original state and said, "With your nephew's temperament, he probably won't live long. I've killed at least eight or ten talents like him before. Even if I don't kill him today, he will eventually die at someone else's hands; the cultivation world is never short of talents."
"Then let's see about that!" Dongfang Zhen yelled in humiliation but was stopped by the Elder of the Sword Pavilion.
Nangong Lin smirked slightly and ignored him. He turned to the respectful Elder Peng and asked, "How can we break this barrier?"
Elder Peng replied, "Young Master, judging by the strength of the barrier, it seems to be dissipating on its own. We can either wait or have someone with great power break a specific point in the barrier with a sword strike; that would be like poking a hole in an egg and would easily break the barrier."
Upon hearing this, Nangong Lin drew a sword from one of the Disciples of the Serpent Cult behind him. The sword blazed with fire as its body glowed red-hot. He thrust it toward the secret realm's barrier; the barrier shook with water ripples but did not break.
Dongfang Zhen laughed heartily and said, "This is simply hilarious! Is that how you use a sword? You couldn't even chop through scrap metal!"
With that, Dongfang Zhen brandished his Shadowless Sword in hand; sword energy filled the air as he slashed at the secret realm's barrier. With a loud bang, the barrier shook again but still did not open a hole. Dongfang Zhen's expression darkened as he struck several more times without creating any cracks in the barrier; instead, his strength only seemed to increase with each attempt.
The Elder of the Sword Pavilion also held a sword in hand, silently performing the sword technique. He thrust his sword towards the barrier, which trembled but showed no cracks.
"This Elder of the Sword Pavilion is a master of the Nascent Soul Realm. If he can't break the barrier, who else can?" The crowd expressed their doubts about Elder Peng's suggestion from the Serpent Cult to use external force to break through.
"It seems we have no choice but to wait. But even if this barrier dissipates on its own, who knows when it will completely lift? If it takes a year, are we supposed to wait here for a year? What will we eat?" someone complained.
Around them, many people stepped forward, attempting to break the barrier with external force, but ultimately returned empty-handed.
"Why don't we give it a try?" Huzi suggested.
Wudao replied, "No need to try; it definitely won't work."
After a moment, he and Huzi turned to Iron Bull and said, "Iron Bull, why don't you give it a shot?"
Iron Bull responded with a grunt, "Alright."
He stepped forward, his strong muscles bulging as he gripped his large hammer. He swung the hammer back and then struck it fiercely against the secret realm's barrier.
With a loud bang, the barrier sent Iron Bull flying back. The crowd gasped in surprise as Iron Bull's strike actually created a crack in the barrier!
