Human Sacrifice
After refining the Soul Nourishing Fruit, my Soul Power greatly increased, making my Primordial Spirit several times stronger than before. My cultivation level also rose to the mid-stage of the Divine Transformation Realm.
With the enhancement of my Soul Power, my perception of the surroundings sharpened significantly. The sounds of battle in the distance seemed intense. I glanced at Zhou Manman, who was still refining the Blue Orchid. The top of this giant tree was quite secluded; it should be unlikely for anyone to discover us.
Following the sounds, I approached and saw a group of people surrounding a Giant Ape that stood about seven or eight meters tall. The ground was littered with the corpses of Daoist Disciples, all killed by a single punch from the Giant Ape.
In this Kunlun Demon Realm, demonic beasts roamed freely. The Giant Ape was exceptionally fierce, and this particular one radiated a powerful aura. It had already killed or injured hundreds of disciples, instilling fear in everyone who dared not engage it in close combat. They could only attack from a distance with Daoist Arts, but the Giant Ape's tough skin made it resistant to blades and swords; ordinary Daoist Arts were ineffective against it.
These disciples appeared to be from a sect, and there were also some rogue cultivators among them. Their skills varied greatly, and their morale was low without any battle strategy. Just as I was considering helping them, a group of people suddenly arrived, all wearing matching attire—members of the Sword Pavilion.
At the forefront was an elder with graying hair. Judging by his Dao Qi fluctuations, he was a Nascent Soul Realm expert—the strongest among those who had entered Rear Kunlun. His power surpassed mine by a hundredfold; even if I confronted him directly, I would not stand a chance. The elder observed the crowd attacking the Giant Ape with a glint of excitement in his eyes and said, "This is the weakest type of Titan Ape—the Red-Haired Ape. Its inner core is far superior to that of the Medicine King; its demonic energy is pure and can be used by cultivators. More importantly, the Titan Ape clan loves to collect treasures; there might be its lair nearby, possibly containing Holy Medicine."
The Elder of the Sword Pavilion then turned to a young man behind him and said, "Zhen'er, it's your time to act."
"Yes!"
A boy with an evil grin stepped forward from behind the elder. Upon seeing him, everyone parted ways and began murmuring among themselves.
"That’s Dongfang Zhen! Although he isn’t the top disciple in the sect, he’s renowned as a master among the younger generation. I've heard he’s the future successor of Sword Pavilion," someone remarked.
"Isn’t Dongfang Jiu’s son named Dongfang Yuqing? Why would they pass on the position of Sword Sect Master to Dongfang Zhen?" another person questioned.
"You don’t know? Although Dongfang Yuqing is Dongfang Jiu’s son, he was born to a poor woman. At that time, Dongfang Jiu was ranked ninth in the Dongfang family and was known as Ninth Master. He had eight older brothers who marginalized him. Dongfang Jiu must have offended some clan relative and was exiled to Lingnan for decades. It wasn’t until over twenty years ago that he suddenly returned from Lingnan. Since then, members of Sword Pavilion have been dying one after another until all his brothers were gone; naturally, Dongfang Jiu became the head of Sword Pavilion. Later on, he brought back a villager from Lingnan who bore him a son—Dongfang Yuqing—but for some reason, that woman hanged herself; it’s rumored that Dongfang Jiu had her killed."
"And why is that? Surely that woman must have been someone who shared hardships with Dongfang Jiu during his exile in Lingnan?"
"It should be like this, but Dongfang Jiu is a person who values face, or perhaps the entire Da Men Da Sect values face. A farmer's daughter, old and faded, wanting to soar like a phoenix—how could that be possible?"
"That's true; such things are not uncommon. No wonder Dongfang Yuqing cannot become the heir."
"You are mistaken again. Although Dongfang Jiu does not favor Dongfang Yuqing's mother, he cares for Dongfang Yuqing and has been nurturing him as a future successor. Dongfang Yuqing is a rare talent, proud and aloof. In the Sword Pavilion, there is a sword technique called the Five Elements Sword Technique, which no one has dared to practice for eight hundred years. Yet he insisted on practicing it, leading to a dispute with Dongfang Jiu. Afterward, someone incited him by revealing his mother's past, and from then on, Dongfang Yuqing and Dongfang Jiu became irreconcilable. Left with no choice, Dongfang Jiu had to name his nephew, Dongfang Zhen, as the next heir. This Dongfang Zhen is also exceptionally talented; he defeated all his peers and was born with sword bones—he lives for the sword, and his aptitude surpasses that of Dongfang Yuqing."
"I see. But I still don't understand one thing. As one of the Five Supreme Sects, Sword Pavilion should have an Old Supreme among them. How could they allow Dongfang Jiu to kill his own cousin without intervening?"
"I'm not sure about that. However, from the perspective of the Yinshan Yang Family, it seems that the Supreme of Sword Pavilion chose not to intervene for the sake of its development. Think about it: a person who can kill eight cousins and still manage Sword Pavilion in an orderly manner has concentrated power more than before. Dongfang Jiu truly possesses real talent."
The two retreated slightly as they watched Dongfang Zhen engage in battle with the Red-Haired Giant Ape. Despite his slender build, he appeared spirited and showed no sign of fear towards the beast. His sword danced through the air like a butterfly; he fought effortlessly against the Red-Haired Giant Ape, seemingly needing no assistance.
The crowd had never seen anyone wield a sword so skillfully before. I was astonished; such swordsmanship was truly extraordinary. The Flying Sword detached from him yet seemed connected, moving at his command as it sliced through the Red-Haired Ape.
"Alright, Zhen'er, finish off this red-haired beast," said the Elder of the Sword Pavilion.
"Understood, Shifu Uncle." Dongfang Zhen's expression suddenly turned fierce as he leaped towards the Red-Haired Ape's fist, agile as a monkey, landing atop its head. The Red-Haired Ape roared in anger and swung a fist toward him.
"Explode!" Dongfang Zhen shouted as he thrust his sword into the Red-Haired Giant Ape's spiritual crown. Blood erupted from the beast, staining the surrounding jungle red and splattering blood onto everyone nearby. The skin of the Red-Haired Giant Ape slipped off its body as it let out a roar and collapsed backward, its flesh scattering like a butcher breaking down beef with precise cuts.
"Good!" The Elder of the Sword Pavilion led the applause. "Zhen'er's Butchering the Ox has reached an extraordinary level!"
Butchering the Ox is one of Sword Pavilion's renowned sword techniques; its essence embodies ease and mastery. In the hands of Dongfang Zhen, who possesses sword bones, it was showcased to perfection.
At that moment, a wandering cultivator stepped forward and said, "Brother Dongfang, we wandering cultivators have had a hard time hunting this Titan Ape's offspring; nearly a hundred have suffered casualties without any credit for our efforts. Could you please give us the corpse of this Titan Ape?"
As a descendant of the jungle overlord, the Titan Ape, the Red-Haired Ape was considered one of the weakest among its kind. Yet, it was a colossal treasure in its own right. Its flesh was far superior to that of spirit beasts, and its bones could be crafted into magical artifacts, possessing healing and vitality-enhancing properties.
Tiger bones were already among the most precious medicinal materials, let alone those of the Titan Ape.
The most crucial aspect was that everyone desired the inner core within the Red-Haired Ape.
Dongfang Zhen nodded and said, "Alright."
Upon hearing Dongfang Zhen's agreement, everyone rushed forward to seize the corpse of the Red-Haired Ape. Some even pried open its chest cavity in search of the inner core.
"I found the inner core!" someone exclaimed, holding up a blood-stained glowing orb that radiated heat and pulsated with Spirit Energy.
The disciples watching from the sidelines glanced at Dongfang Zhen, who wore a smile. Seeing that everyone was fighting over the inner core without any reaction from him made them feel regretful.
"It seems that the people from the Supreme Sect don't care about the inner core of a Titan Ape descendant at all. They aren't interested; I really worried for nothing," one person said as he dashed into the crowd to snatch at the remains of the Red-Haired Ape.
Suddenly, someone screamed, startling everyone into jumping back. They saw an individual pulling out a crystal from the brain of the Red-Haired Ape. The crystal shimmered with powerful runes, exuding an air of mystery.
"This is where the Divine Ability of the Titan Ape clan resides. It is said that members of the Titan Ape clan possess Divine Abilities, but they can only be unlocked after reaching adulthood. This Red-Haired Ape belongs to the lowest tier of Titan Apes and hasn't reached maturity yet! Once it matures and gains its Divine Ability, it would be equivalent to a Divine Ability possessed by a Dao Fruit Realm cultivator among humans!" someone explained.
Hearing this, Dongfang Zhen turned to look at the Elder of the Sword Pavilion, who nodded in agreement. Dongfang Zhen smiled slightly and said, "Hand over both the inner core and the Divine Power Crystal to me."
"But, Brother Dongfang, didn't you say you didn't want them? Look at how hard we all worked..." a group protested, showing their dissatisfaction towards Dongfang Zhen.
"Enough. I shouldn't waste my breath on you useless fools," Dongfang Zhen replied.
Dongfang Zhen finished, his sword dancing through the crowd. Wherever the blade passed, heads rolled and bodies fell. Some people desperately tried to resist, begging for mercy, while others fled in panic, but none could escape the harvest of this young talent. He was like a reaper, killing as if mowing grass. In no time, two or three hundred Cultivators lay slaughtered on the ground.
Dongfang Zhen held the Beast Core and Divine Power Crystal, laughing heartily. The other Sword Sect Disciples exclaimed, "Master Brother is mighty! Master Brother is mighty!"
As Dongfang Zhen laughed, he suddenly turned to one of the Sword Sect Disciples and asked, "What did you just call me?"
The disciple's face turned pale as he knelt down and said, "Master Brother, I beg for forgiveness. I misspoke just now."
"Well then, what did you just call me?" Dongfang Zhen asked, tilting his head.
The disciple trembled as he replied, "Er... Er Master Brother."
With a swift motion of his sword, Dongfang Zhen made a cut, and the disciple let out a muffled groan, clutching his severed finger, sweat pouring down his forehead as he dared not make a sound.
Dongfang Zhen snorted and said, "How many times have I told you? If you don't learn your lesson, how will you change?"
While Dongfang Zhen was teaching the disciple a lesson, the Elder of the Sword Pavilion silently watched from the side without saying a word. Just then, from above a giant tree, a cold voice came from a White-Clad Youth: "Isn't it enough that you stole the Inner Dan and Crystal? Why must you slaughter the innocent? These are hundreds of lives; do they truly mean nothing to you?"
Dongfang Zhen looked at the White-Clad Youth with disdain and replied, "Dongfang Yuqing, what qualifications do you have as a traitor of the Sword Pavilion to lecture me? The Five Element Sword on your back belongs to the Sword Pavilion. Now that the Sword Master has accepted me as his adopted son, your existence as a traitor has lost all meaning."
"Is that so? The Sword Pavilion has always been heartless; it's no surprise that family members turn against each other," Dongfang Yuqing said, a hint of sadness and loneliness flashing in his eyes.
