Human Sacrifice
Inside Birch Cave, a rich aroma of medicine filled the air, and the water in the Medicine Cauldron was boiling. I sat within it, rapidly refining the Dragon's Essence Flower and Blood Bodhi in my abdomen, holding Tai Sui at my belly, absorbing and refining it with the energy of Qi Sea.
The medicinal properties of the hundreds of herbs within the Medicine Cauldron clung to my skin. Once I opened my pores, the medicinal power would flood into my body.
There is a verse in the Taoist Sacred Body Forging Technique that states, "Calmly and without action, the body is not one's own." Although I did not fully understand this line, there was a more obscure mantra below it. Using the essence of Martial Dao Classic, I deciphered the original meaning of this mantra and followed its instructions to circulate Dao Qi. The Dao Qi flowed through my blood and bones, reaching all my limbs and organs.
One wave after another of Dao Qi was drawn from the Qi Sea, surrounding the Dragon's Essence Flower and Blood Bodhi. The Blood Bodhi was relatively easy to refine; being a substance that replenishes blood energy, once refined, its medicinal power quickly merged into my blood. I could feel my blood boiling as it began to refine my flesh and bones, creating a pleasant yet itchy sensation within me.
However, the Dragon's Essence Flower was much harder to refine. Firstly, refining with Dao Qi is a slow process; secondly, the Dragon's Essence Flower grows for a thousand years without wilting and is rumored to sprout from the marrow of a true dragon after its death. It thrives eternally once it blooms, making it incredibly difficult to refine its medicinal power.
After several hours, as the flames in the cauldron began to die down and most of Tai Sui had been absorbed, I controlled my Dao Qi to use a Silver Needle from behind to puncture my Acupoints. My movements were precise until my Acupoints were unblocked. Taking a deep breath, I then opened all my pores. In an instant, the medicinal power that had clung to my body surged into me like a river breaking through a dam.
My skin split open in an instant, and my Meridians burst under pressure. I gritted my teeth against the pain because I understood from the Taoist Sacred Body Forging Technique that opening the pores to draw in medicinal power would involve unbearable suffering. Many ancient practitioners could not withstand this trial and fainted from pain; if one could not control the raging Dao Qi within them at that moment, death was certain.
"I, Yang Hao, am alone and need no one’s help. I will surely reach the pinnacle of martial arts; what is this little pain compared to that!"
I watched as blood seeped from my body; it felt as if countless insects were gnawing at me. The Dao Qi protected my internal organs while the transformation of blood and flesh would inevitably tear apart muscle and sinew. This process could only be endured with strong willpower; any misstep could lead to medicinal power entering my Heart and bursting my internal organs—certain death.
The medicinal power in the Medicine Cauldron swirled into me like a vortex. Just as it surged toward the Dragon's Essence Flower, its medicinal properties finally dispersed. In an instant, it exploded like a porcupine; sharp thorns burst forth from within me. I couldn't help but let out a scream as blood poured from my mouth, even spilling from my ears.
"This is bad; I underestimated this terrifying medicinal power."
My life force drained rapidly as multiple Meridians and bones within me were damaged. If I hadn’t protected my heart vein all along, I might have suffered severe injury during that explosion of medicinal power.
My bones rattled ominously as I looked down at my chest; one rib had dislocated and pierced through flesh, wrapped in terrifying dragon energy before shattering into powder. The remaining bones throughout my body were crushed by the medicinal power, leaving a strong metallic scent of blood in the Medicine Cauldron.
I had no strength left in me; I could only barely control Dao Qi to circulate within me while alleviating the effects of the medicine and repairing bodily damage.
At that moment, however, the door outside the cave suddenly swung open.
Lin Jingyu looked at me in shock; blood splattered everywhere. At this time, my Dao Qi was chaotic and most of my life force had been exhausted—I resembled a half-dead person. His face was anxious as he asked, "Brother Yang Hao, what happened to you?"
I replied, "It's nothing; just a necessary phase of refining blood and bones. I'm fine."
"Oh?" Lin Jingyu raised an eyebrow. "But why do I feel like Brother Yang Hao is about to die?"
I frowned and said, "I told you not to come in no matter what sounds you hear. Did you take my words as mere whispers?"
A hint of mockery appeared on Lin Jingyu's face as he replied, "It seems Brother Yang Hao still trusts others too much. We share the same thoughts and circumstances; people like us are destined not to have companions who are just like ourselves."
I sat in the Medicine Cauldron, watching Lin Jingyu coldly, and he continued, "Yang Hao, oh Yang Hao, I've really been investigating you for a long time. Let's set aside where you got that ancient artifact, the Fish Intestine Sword. Just your rejuvenation alone is enough to show that you possess a Treasure. If I'm not mistaken, the experts from the Outer Sect Top Ten must have all been killed by you, right?"
I asked, "What else can you guess?"
Lin Jingyu said, "The sect's precious medicine, Tai Sui, was stolen by you; the Dragon's Essence Flower was taken by you. You orchestrated the deaths of my master, Elder Hong, and my two underage brothers. The Ointment you gave me can heal wounds and internal injuries in no time—truly remarkable! You are a Treasure Basin yourself! Anyone who sees you would be envious!"
I replied, "I intended to keep you by my side and even left half of the Holy Medicine for you, hoping to help you refine it into a Taoist Sacred Body. Is this how you repay me?"
Lin Jingyu laughed heartily and said, "Repay? You really think so? You just want to use me! You're clever, but I didn't expect you'd believe in something as ethereal as the Taoist Sacred Body Forging Technique. Didn't you see what it says in the book about Narrow Escape? Now you're left with barely half your life; you're gasping for breath. I even doubt whether you can lift your hand!"
"You can try," I gritted my teeth, blood trickling from the corner of my mouth.
"Then I'll give it a try." Lin Jingyu pulled out a dagger from his waist and slowly approached me.
I couldn't move while sitting in the Medicine Cauldron; my blood surged within me, bones shattered. Lin Jingyu's expression remained cautious. Suddenly, eight Black Blades shot out from the painting on the wall. Lin Jingyu blocked them one by one with his dagger. The last Black Blade flew out directly towards Lin Jingyu's solar plexus. He spun his Dao Qi to catch it and then hurled it back at me. The blade grazed my left cheek, leaving a bloody mark as it vanished. I couldn't help but cough up blood.
"Out of tricks already?" Lin Jingyu laughed heartily. "You have no Dao Qi left; killing you is as easy as pie! Tell me how you can conjure herbs and various items out of thin air! What secrets are you hiding?!"
"If you want to know so badly, why not come closer?" I looked at Lin Jingyu with a pale face.
"I have no choice but to force myself to kill you; I don't believe that after killing you, your things will still be hidden anywhere!" Lin Jingyu charged forward and stabbed at my chest with his knife. I grabbed his wrist with both hands, but he still drove the blade into my flesh.
I clutched the blade's edge, trying to stop it from piercing my Heart, but my body was already in so much pain that I had no strength left to resist as Lin Jingyu prepared to kill me.
Seeing the dagger plunged into my heart, Lin Jingyu laughed loudly and said, "You were too young to fight against me!"
I felt my life force dwindling; I would die within seconds. Yet from my Heart emerged Black Scripts seeping out—a familiar sensation washed over me as if darkness had suddenly descended upon me and granted me an overwhelming sense of power.
Lin Jingyu did not notice this change; instead, he turned his back to me and began examining the herbs laid out on the ground with an ecstatic expression.
"You know all my secrets, but what does it matter?" I stood up from the Medicine Cauldron, the dagger in my chest pulled out.
At that moment, I was completely enveloped by the Black Secret Script, symbols crawling over my face and neck like charms. My eyes were filled with black and red, resembling a crimson moon in the dark night.
Lin Jingyu heard the sound and turned to look at me. I appeared like a demon bursting forth from hell, a black halo swirling behind me, my eyes glinting like jewels as they fixed on him.
"What kind of monster are you?" Lin Jingyu shouted, turning to flee. He could feel that in the face of my current state, he was as fragile as an ant.
I watched his retreating figure as he was about to escape the Cave. With a flick of my fingers, he was immediately yanked back like a kite on a string, flying into my grasp.
The door of the Cave closed. Lin Jingyu's pleas for mercy were cut short as I crushed his skull with my hand, blood splattering into the Medicine Cauldron.
At that moment, both Lin Jingyu and I stood inside the Medicine Cauldron. However, his body began to shrink, his life essence and blood flowing into me. His flesh withered away until he quickly became a pair of white bones. The medicine within the Cauldron continuously poured into my body until only dregs and waste remained. I stepped out of the Medicine Cauldron, the runes on my body gradually fading away as the black characters retracted into me.
I collapsed onto the ground; my blood and bones were still shattering and reorganizing within me. However, the Dao Qi inside me no longer surged chaotically. I was so exhausted that I could barely keep my eyes open.
When I awoke again, I had no idea how much time had passed. I got up from the ground and pushed open the door of the Cave. Moonlight streamed in, and when I turned back, I saw myself lying on the ground.
"Did my Primordial Spirit leave my body?" I wondered. "I didn't expect this upheaval to directly propel me into the Divine Transformation Realm."
