Human Sacrifice
My Disciples' Quarters is not far from Azure Cloud Mountain's Outer Hall. Each Disciples' Quarter is closely situated together, small in size, yet quaint and quite comfortable. After changing into a new Daoist Robe, my first stop was the Water Storage Room at the foot of the mountain, specifically the Miscellaneous Room. They had lost a bet and promised to give me ten Qi Gathering Pills.
However, strangely enough, the door to the Miscellaneous Room was tightly shut, and the two Managers—a plump one and a thin one—were nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to turn away, a young boy called out to me, “Are you Yang Hao?”
“Yes, I am Yang Hao. Who are you?” I replied, noticing the boy's smug expression and condescending demeanor, which made me less inclined to be polite.
The boy said, “Wolf sent me to inform you that your Qi Gathering Pills now belong to him. He advises you not to trouble the Managers anymore.”
“Who is Wolf?” I asked in confusion.
The boy replied, “Wolf Motong, ranked thirty. He has been on a winning streak, never tasting defeat, and has fought his way into the top thirty among Eight Thousand Disciples.”
“That sounds impressive, but I don’t understand why he would claim my Qi Gathering Pills as his own,” I said.
The boy explained, “I’m not afraid to tell you that the two Managers of the Miscellaneous Room have taken good care of Wolf. He is intelligent and has learned the Dao with ease, earning great recognition from the Outer Sect. He holds considerable influence within the Outer Sect now and is protecting those two Managers. You’d best not think too much about it.”
“Why should I not think about my own belongings? Don’t you find that strange?” I questioned.
The boy replied, “If you’re not satisfied, you can challenge Wolf. I heard you just defeated Qi Shaoyu, who was ranked among the top one hundred in the Outer Sect. Wolf is on an entirely different level than Qi Shaoyu.”
“Then inform Wolf to wait for me at Martial Arts Square. Once I finish moving my things, I will go and fight him,” I said.
"Hmph, who do you think you are to make the wolf wait for you?" The boy glared with malice.
Slap!
A hand swung across, and the boy let out a cry as his teeth shattered, his facial bones misaligned from the blow. Enraged, he was about to curse when I appeared before him like a shadow, gripping his jaw and gently pulling down. His jaw dislocated with a crack, rendering him speechless.
"Go inform the wolf properly. Some people are worth provoking, while others are not. The reason he has been on a winning streak is that his opponents are weak. Why not challenge the top contender directly? Isn’t that you?" I said with a smile.
The boy looked terrified, not daring to defy me in the slightest. I continued, "Now, immediately go back and tell the wolf that Ming Zhongwu is at Martial Arts Square. I challenge him, and also return my Qi Gathering Pill."
The boy nodded and turned to flee. I called out, "Wait!"
He stopped, unsure of my intentions. After a moment's hesitation, I added, "Hand over anything valuable you have!"
The boy froze for a moment, seemingly not expecting this. Looking into my fierce eyes, he quickly nodded and pulled out some Silver Coins and a blue medicine bottle from his pocket. I opened the bottle to find a pale blue pill inside. The fragrance of the pill was similar to that of the Qi Gathering Pill but more potent. If my guess was correct, this pill was indeed a genuine Qi Gathering Pill.
I popped the Qi Gathering Pill into my mouth and chewed it. The fragrant essence filled my senses as Spirit Energy surged into my body, racing toward my Qi Sea. The boy watched in shock as I ignored him and ascended the peak of Water Storage Room.
Upon reaching the base of the water tower, everyone cheered at my return. Whenever a laborer successfully challenged an Outer Sect member, their labor office would receive a batch of Outer Sect rewards. While these rewards were insignificant to the Outer Sect members, they were considered a windfall for those who would never have a chance to advance.
I instructed the burly Three Sons to move some items from Huang Laohu's residence to my new Disciples' Quarters. After I left, Three Sons would become the leader of Water Storage Room.
Once everything was moved, Three Sons hesitated before saying, "Brother Hao, Zhu Cong is missing."
"I already know," I replied.
"Is he dead?" asked Three Sons.
"I don't know if he's dead or not," I replied, "but I do know that you are still alive, Three Sons. Some things are meant to be known, while others should remain unasked. Zhu Cong died because of his own cleverness, and you are alive because of your steadfastness. You have been loyal to the Room Manager until his death, which I truly admire. Do well in the Water Storage Room from now on. If you ever have the chance to leave this sect, it would be best not to return; this place is not like the outside world."
"I understand, Brother Hao." With that, Three Sons took his leave and returned to the Water Storage Room.
After tidying up my new living quarters, I headed towards the Outer Sect's Scripture Repository. The Scruffy Old Daoist saw me and lazily remarked, "Ah, so it's someone who knows how to conceal their strength. I didn't see that coming."
I bowed respectfully to the Scruffy Old Daoist and said, "The reason I was able to win is largely due to your wise guidance."
"You are too modest. To defeat the top hundred of the Outer Sect as a laborer is no small feat. And to have mastered the Wind Spirit Technique in such a short time is quite rare," he replied.
"I actually came here to borrow books on the foundational cultivation methods of the Azure Cloud Sect after the Entry-Level Realm. Now that I am at the Late Stage of Qi Entry Realm, I will soon enter the Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm. It’s best to prepare in advance, and I also want to see if there are any suitable Cultivation Methods for me," I explained.
"The first shelf on the first row of the second floor of the Scripture Repository contains all explanations for the Azure Cloud Sect's Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm. The last row on the third shelf has some decent Cultivation Methods, but none are as powerful as the Mountain Split Technique on the first floor. After all, Outer Sect disciples have limited cultivation levels, and the sect won't place true Ultimate Techniques there," said the Scruffy Old Daoist.
"What about the third floor?" I asked.
The Scruffy Old Daoist raised an eyebrow and said, "You really want to bite off more than you can chew? The third floor actually involves Inner Sect materials and is only accessible to the top ten disciples of the Outer Sect. However, if you want to get in, there are ways..."
I pulled out some Silver Coins that I had just acquired and placed them in his hand. "For you to buy some wine."
"Ah, I'm not trying to take your things; it's just that those in the Outer Sect Top Ten receive special treatment since they are potential Inner Sect Disciples. Their tokens allow them unrestricted access to the third floor of the Scripture Repository. I took the token, but the Scruffy Old Daoist didn't let go. After several attempts to pull it away without success, he stared at me blankly. I then pulled out more Silver Coins from my pocket. The Scruffy Old Daoist chuckled and said, "I was just joking with you; go ahead and enter."
I let out a sigh of relief, thinking I had been tricked by the old man. On the second level of the bookshelf, I found information related to "Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm." This realm comes after the "Entry-Level Realm," which is a stage where one masters the application of "Dao Qi" through personal cultivation. In contrast, "Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm" involves absorbing "Spirit Energy" from the external world and transforming it into one's own "Dao Qi" based on the foundation laid in the "Entry-Level Realm."
"Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm" is a bottleneck stage. In this realm, practitioners of the "Daoist Sect" need to absorb a large amount of external "Spirit Energy" to convert it into their own "Dao Qi," preparing for a breakthrough and getting ready for the "Foundation Establishment Realm."
I then moved to the third level of the "Scripture Repository," where I found descriptions about the "Foundation Establishment Realm."
The "Foundation Establishment Realm" is achieved by breaking through from the "Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm." The accumulated "Dao Qi" within one's body forms a "Qi Sea," located at the position of the "Dantian." This is the source where cultivators store their "Dao Qi." Each person's "Qi Sea" varies; some are larger, and the refinement of their "Dao Qi" differs as well. Once a person's "Qi Sea" is forced, it means they can never cultivate again.
"So I am currently at the 'Foundation Establishment Realm.' No wonder defeating 'Qi Shaoyu' was effortless. The potency of this 'Seven-Colored Elixir' is indeed remarkable; it directly broke through the bottleneck of 'Purple Qi Coming from the East Realm.' My current strength might even rival that of an 'Inner Sect Disciple,'" I thought to myself as I closed the book.
However, when I continued to read about the "Foundation Establishment Realm," I found that it never mentioned anything about "Qi Sea Storage."
I looked through several other books in the third level of the "Scripture Repository" regarding cultivation methods but was not satisfied until I found one called "Taoist Sacred Body Forging Technique." This book was comprehensive but had never been sought after because it covered too many aspects: qi cultivation, body forging, self-cultivation, and essence nurturing. It also required many precious medicinal materials and even needed to use "Holy Medicine."
"Holy Medicine" is hard to come by, encountered once in a hundred years. Even if found, it would be handed over to the sect in exchange for some useful supreme cultivation methods and magical treasures rather than being used for body cultivation. As the "Daoist Sect" developed, martial arts declined, and body-forging techniques naturally fell into obscurity.
I silently memorized this "Taoist Sacred Body Forging Technique" using insights from the "Martial Dao Classic," then exited the "Scripture Repository." When I asked the Scruffy Old Daoist about "Qi Sea Storage," he looked at me with confusion.
"Qi Sea Storage? The 'Qi Sea' is where a Daoist's 'Dao Qi' originates. How could it possibly store items? Where did you see such a book?"
