Human Sacrifice
Just then, a leaf fell from the tree, and Huang Laohu suddenly swiped at it. A leaf flew toward my neck like a flying knife.
Panic surged within me as I tilted my neck just in time to avoid it, feeling the skin stretch painfully.
I stepped back, but Huang Laohu clapped his hands, and several people from the Water Storage Room dormitory emerged, wielding iron rods—there were at least seven or eight of them.
One person immediately raised a rod and swung it at me. I grabbed the iron rod and punched him in the face. He collapsed instantly, his face twisted, the bones shattered under my fist, blood pooling in his skull.
The others were terrified by my display of strength and dared not approach.
I charged at Huang Laohu with the rod in hand. He snorted and threw a punch at me. My iron rod struck his fist with a loud clang. The rod bent under the impact, and Huang Laohu grimaced in pain as he suddenly grabbed my neck.
"With your little skills, you think you can fight me? You're still too green!" As he spoke, rustling sounds came from the bushes behind the water tower. Gunshots rang out in quick succession towards us.
A bullet grazed my arm, and Huang Laohu was hit as well. I kicked up hard, wrapping my legs around Huang Laohu's neck and flipping us both into the edge of the forest, while several bullets struck where we had been standing moments before.
The shadowy figures in the dark hurriedly fled. Huang Laohu was about to attack me again when I said, "Don't you want to know who wants us dead? They heard everything we just said."
Huang Laohu hesitated for a moment; sweat beaded on his forehead from the pain of his gunshot wound, which had missed any vital areas.
"I'll kill you first!" he declared.
Just as Huang Laohu was about to make his move, a voice called out from the direction of the dormitory: "Help! Jiang Yang's dorm is on fire!"
Upon hearing Jiang Yang's name, Huang Laohu frowned. He looked toward the dormitory north of the water tower and indeed saw smoke billowing up.
Without another word, Huang Laohu ran toward the dormitory area. Everyone was busy trying to put out the fire. Huang Laohu rushed into one of the dorms and soon dragged out Jiang Yang's half-burned corpse. He stared at Jiang Yang's gruesome death and the bloody hole in his forehead, his face filled with rage.
Huang Laohu pressed his palm against Jiang Yang's forehead, extracting the bullet from the wound. He looked at the bullet and then raised his head to see the Room Manager slowly emerging from the dormitory. Coldly, he said, "Everyone line up properly, or don't blame me for killing."
Upon hearing Huang Laohu's command, everyone quickly formed a line. Huang Laohu instructed a few of his trusted subordinates to search everyone for weapons. After searching, they all shook their heads, indicating there were none.
Huang Laohu pointed towards the large dormitory and ordered, "Search the dormitory. Look under the beds and search thoroughly."
A few of them entered the large dormitory as instructed. Before long, one of them emerged with a handgun and handed it to Huang Laohu, saying, "I found this under the Room Manager's pillow."
"You... you... you're slandering me!" The Room Manager's face turned pale upon hearing that the gun belonged to him, and he stammered in disbelief.
Huang Laohu replied, "I thought you were loyal, but it turns out you're just another dog secretly working against me. I've seen through you."
The Room Manager protested, "Brother Huzi, someone must be trying to frame me! I've been here for so many years; how could I possibly have a gun? The sect strictly prohibits firearms. Someone is definitely trying to harm me—it's Yang Hao! It has to be him; he's always wanted to go against you and even tried to harm you."
Huang Laohu retorted, "Everyone here either listens to me or you. Yang Hao was just with me; the shooter even injured him. Clearly, their intent was to kill us all. Who else could it be but you?"
Huang Laohu grabbed the terrified Room Manager by the collar and slammed him against the wall of the dormitory, causing his head to smash against it with a sickening thud. Blood splattered everywhere. "You shouldn't have killed Jiang Yang."
Huang Laohu said fiercely, "From now on, remember this: crossing me will lead to this kind of end!"
Everyone was struck dumb with fear as Huang Laohu openly killed the Room Manager in front of them, yet no one dared to speak out against him.
My plan was precisely this: to have Eyed Boy Zhu Cong secretly shoot Huang Laohu. Regardless of whether it succeeded or failed, as long as the gun was hidden under the Room Manager's bed, he would be caught red-handed and would undoubtedly meet his demise.
If I die, I will gather people to check everyone's beds. The Room Manager's influence is no match for mine; now I have some prestige in the Water Storage Room, and with evidence in hand, no one dares to oppose me when judging the Room Manager.
Even if Huang Laohu is not dead, he will still find out about the Room Manager. Moreover, the fact that Jiang Yang was shot dead will undoubtedly infuriate Huang Laohu, leading to the Room Manager's direct demise.
However, I overlooked one thing: Zhu Cong actually shot at both me and Huang Laohu at the same time. There were several opportunities for him to shoot but he didn't; instead, he waited until Huang Laohu and I were locked in combat before firing. I overestimated this person's intelligence. He never considered that if he killed me, even if there was evidence pointing to the Room Manager, it would be a case of killing three birds with one stone. In a leaderless situation, given his age, he would never be able to take charge of the Water Storage Room.
I glanced at Zhu Cong standing at the back of the crowd. He nodded at me, his gaze slightly evasive.
I initially intended to take all the responsibility upon myself, but I didn't expect this part involving Zhu Cong to go awry. I also didn't anticipate that everyone would be so cowardly, watching their dorm leader being killed by Huang Laohu without daring to speak up.
Huang Laohu had been shot. At this moment, he was seething with rage; on the surface, he appeared fierce, but in reality, he was strong on the outside yet weak on the inside. Challenging him was just what I needed; after all, he was merely a disciple of the Entry-Level Realm and wasn't much stronger than me.
Just then, a round of applause echoed from above. A woman's voice rang out from high atop the water tower: "I thought only the Inner Sect and Outer Sect were truly oppressive places; I didn't expect someone like you to emerge from a place like the Water Storage Room."
She then leaped down from the water tower with grace, landing on the roof of the large dormitory.
Dressed in red, she had a delicate appearance with a touch of red silk adorning her brow. Though she looked only about sixteen or seventeen years old, she appeared ethereal.
"Who are you?" Huang Laohu asked as he looked up at the Red-Clad Girl.
The Red-Clad Girl giggled lightly: "I am who I am; you are not qualified to question me. I saw you casually kill someone just now and thought it looked a bit awkward, so I came down to say a few words."
"I can manage my own affairs," Huang Laohu replied.
The Red-Clad Girl said, "How ridiculous! No one in Azure Cloud Mountain dares to speak to me like this. I originally wanted to ask why the waterfall at my door suddenly stopped flowing, but now it seems there's no need to ask—it's because you made everyone take a break, isn't it?"
"You are... Sword Princess?" Huang Laohu was startled by her words.
The Red-Clad Girl snorted and said, "You lowly creature, I can't be bothered with you. Where is Elder Hong? Why isn't he out yet?"
As soon as she finished speaking, an old man appeared from the trees below the mountain, accompanied by two Dao Children. It was Elder Hong and his two disciples.
Elder Hong's expression changed drastically upon seeing the Red-Clad Girl on the roof. He seemed to dread her name and immediately asked, "What brings you here?"
The Red-Clad Girl pointed at Huang Laohu and said, "I really dislike this person. You can handle it as you see fit. Just now, I saw him daring to fight with someone up at my water tower. His courage is commendable; why not make him the head of the Water Storage Room? Do you understand what I'm saying?"
She gestured back and forth between Huang Laohu and me, her attitude arrogant, without even asking for our names.
Elder Hong lowered his head and replied, "Understood. Understood."
The Red-Clad Girl continued, "Alright then, once you deal with it, let them get to work. Otherwise, the waterfall on my mountain will dry up. And let me remind you of something, Elder Hong: as an elder of the Outer Sect, you need to manage it well. Don't let any nonsense arise. I've heard you've taken on a promising disciple who might compete with those from the Inner Sect; I don't blame you for focusing on teaching him. But you can't neglect the management of the Outer Sect either. And these stinky lower-class people need to recognize their place; they should just work and not talk about ideals and youth."
"Understood, my lady," Elder Hong replied respectfully, his face filled with discomfort.
The Red-Clad Girl disdainfully snorted again and leaped onto another large tree with graceful movements like a flying swallow, disappearing into the night in no time.
Elder Hong sighed and said, "Yellow Tiger, you've really offended someone you shouldn't have. Don't blame me if I can't help you; if she wants your life, there's nothing I can do."
