Human Sacrifice
In the chaos of the Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, the people lived in despair, and the villagers of Futu Ridge led an isolated existence.
To ensure a successful blood sacrifice in the land of the Dragon Vein, Chang Yuchun captured all the villagers of Futu Ridge to construct an Underground Altar, forcing them to toil day and night until they perished from exhaustion.
In the early years of the Qing Dynasty, three monks traveled to Futu Ridge to establish the Futu Stupa to suppress the Snake Goddess. The history of that era remains unknown, but it is certain that Futu Ridge survived through countless crises of life and death throughout the ages.
Now, a group of soldiers armed with modern weapons pointed their machine guns at the defenseless villagers.
The great serpent was slain, and Futu Ridge was destroyed. I stood atop the highest peak of the forbidden ground and glanced at Guo the Blind, whose face bore the marks of time. "Is it still not too late to tear off the Gold Leaf Talisman?"
Guo the Blind's eyes were bloodshot as he replied, "It's not too late."
"Then you must promise me one condition: if the Snake Goddess drives away these soldiers, you must never kill any villager from Futu Ridge again."
Guo the Blind hesitated for a moment before saying, "I promise you."
Seeing Guo the Blind's agreement, I looked down at the Futu Stupa, where my mother was still waiting beneath it.
"Please let the Snake Goddess guide us," Guo the Blind called down with a tone of reverence.
An invisible force lifted both Guo the Blind and me, slowly carrying us toward the twenty-seventh level of the Futu Stupa. I knew that the Snake Goddess was still present and had not dissipated with the death of the great serpent.
As I hovered in midair, I caught a glimpse through the window of the twenty-eighth level. A faint golden light emanated from within, where a figure sat cross-legged.
I did not understand much about Daoist Sect matters and was unsure what was sealed within that twenty-eighth level, but I had already decided to break the seal.
I gazed at the mud wall blocking access to the twenty-eighth level and no longer hesitated. I tore off the Gold Leaf Talisman affixed to it. Once removed, the Yinwen inscribed on it suddenly transformed into a stream of Dao Fire that flew out through the window, turning the gold foil to ashes.
"Old Scholar is still alive?" Guo the Blind exclaimed in surprise and excitement as he watched the Dao Fire escape.
However, what seemed to excite Guo the Blind even more was whatever was sealed within the twenty-eighth level of Futu Stupa.
I stared at the mud wall before me, filled with deep confusion. After tearing apart the Talisman, a crack appeared in the wall, revealing a faint golden glow seeping through.
The battered mud wall suddenly burst with golden light, cracking apart.
Inside the twenty-eighth layer of the Futu Stupa, a figure enveloped in golden radiance slowly emerged, the brilliance so dazzling that I had to shield my eyes.
Beside me, Guo the Blind let out a wild, ecstatic laugh as the Golden Figure strode directly toward him.
Amidst the howling wind, Guo the Blind's clothes billowed without any breeze, and waves of natural energy surged into his body from all directions.
"My Dao Body has returned! My Dao Body has returned! Hahaha, my Dao Body has returned!" Guo the Blind exclaimed.
"Are you deceiving me?" I suddenly realized, unable to believe that this had all been a lie from the beginning.
According to past rumors, Guo the Blind's Dao Body had been destroyed by Old Scholar, rendering him powerless and turning him into a mere shell of his former self. Even Guo the Blind himself had repeatedly claimed that Old Scholar had ruined his Dao Body.
But why would Guo the Blind's Dao Body appear here out of nowhere?
Could it be that Old Scholar never actually destroyed Guo the Blind's Dao Body but instead sealed it within the Futu Stupa to suppress the great serpent?
Guo the Blind looked at me and said, "Curious about whether it's true? I can tell you—Old Scholar nailed my mother, a foreign woman, to that big red Coffin Woman. She is Nine Yin Absolute Pulse Life, and so am I. Those of Nine Yin Absolute Pulse Life can even block the Underworld Entrance. The supreme Dao Body I cultivated sits at the heart of this forbidden land; when it comes to suppressing the Snake Goddess, it is certainly more effective than any Taoist treasure. Old Scholar killed my mother and wanted to kill me too; he never anticipated this day!"
The only act of indiscriminate slaughter committed by Old Scholar back then was nailing a foreign woman inside a coffin, trapping her for seventy years. By the time she emerged from that coffin, she was already withered and on the brink of death.
Those with Nine Yin Absolute Pulse have incredibly strong life force; I am not part of the Daoist Sect and do not fully understand what Nine Yin Absolute Pulse signifies.
But I could never have imagined that within the twenty-eighth layer of Futu Stupa lay Guo the Blind's sealed Dao Body!
Guo the Blind was an astute and deeply calculating individual; his mastery of Daoist Arts and medicine was profound. If his Dao Body were to return, I couldn't fathom how powerful he would become.
I drew my knife from behind me and lunged at the overconfident Guo the Blind. His smile remained unchanged as he gripped his Spring Knife, which instantly turned crimson and melted like molten copper in his hand. "Only now do you think to kill me? It's too late!"
With a palm thrust against my chest, Guo the Blind sent me flying out of Futu Stupa. The tower shattered as I plummeted from a height of sixty or seventy meters; there was no doubt I would die upon impact.
My mother heard the commotion and gasped as she saw me falling from the tower.
Just a second before I landed, Guo the Blind approached the Futu Stupa, his fingers twitching slightly, and my descent halted in mid-air.
I struggled to touch down on the ground, and my mother hurried over to ask what had happened.
Holding my chest, I looked up at Guo the Blind atop the tower and said, "You lied to me. You promised you wouldn't harm the villagers of Futu Ridge!"
"That's right!" Guo the Blind replied emphatically. "I only asked you to tear the Talisman and release the Snake Goddess. I never mentioned anything about my Dao Body; that’s not a lie. As for the villagers of Futu Ridge, their fate will be determined by the Snake Goddess. I will not kill them."
"Father, congratulations on the return of your Dao Body!" Guo Huaiyi suddenly emerged from within the Futu Stupa.
Guo the Blind glanced at Guo Huaiyi and said, "From now on, no one can harm us father and son. I, Guo the Blind, will ensure that Old Scholar meets a miserable end, wiping out all his descendants and disciples!"
Guo Huaiyi said, "Then I'll go kill all the people of Futu Ridge right now; we can't let them off so easily!"
"Wait, Guo Huaiyi. The villagers of Futu Ridge belong to the Snake Goddess; this is something we agreed upon," Guo the Blind replied.
At that moment, in front of the villagers at the base of Winding Mountain Road below Futu Ridge, Huzi had somehow positioned himself in front of them and shouted, "If you want to kill them, then kill me too!"
"Hmph, I'll kill you too without hesitation!" the Middle-Aged White-Haired Officer said coldly.
Li Fugui stepped up in front of the Middle-Aged White-Haired Officer and said, "Are you seeking death? When did I ever call for a massacre of villagers?"
"These are all rabble affecting social stability. Are you trying to protect them and betray the army?" the Middle-Aged White-Haired Officer retorted.
Li Fugui smirked coldly; suddenly, his iron spear pierced through the Middle-Aged White-Haired Officer's heart. The surrounding soldiers and other officers were stunned to see Li Fugui kill his superior.
Li Fugui declared, "A mere title means nothing before me. Even if the commander of your military district were here, if he doesn’t follow my orders, I would still kill him without hesitation."
The crowd exchanged glances; this Li Fugui could kill a thirty-meter-long snake with his bare hands. They had heard rumors in the army about someone who could catch bullets with their bare hands. Li Fugui's rank must be significant. They had never intended to harm innocent civilians; now that the white-haired officer was dead and Li Fugui had spoken up, those officers with higher ranks signaled their soldiers to lower their weapons.
"Commander Li, what do you think we should do next?" an officer asked Li Fugui.
Li Fugui replied, "Since the great snake is dead, you all can go back. I'll handle what comes next."
"Leave it to you?" A sharp voice echoed from the forbidden area, and then everyone watched as an old man in black robes leaped through the forest, stepping on the treetops.
This scene terrified the crowd, for in the legends of Futu Ridge, the Old Scholar was said to have been a deity, known for his ability to conjure fire out of thin air and leap through the woods.
But who was this person now?
When the crowd recognized him as Guo the Blind, discussions erupted. Guo the Blind stood atop a giant tree, leaves swirling around him, yet he remained completely still.
"Old Blind Man, please save us!" Old Man Wang shouted from below.
Guo the Blind glanced at Old Man Wang and the villagers who looked at him with hopeful expressions. His face darkened, but then he burst into laughter. "You ants, what right do you have to call me Guo the Blind?!"
"Old Blind Man, I consider you like my own buddy! How can you turn your back on me?" Old Man Wang pleaded.
Guo the Blind looked disdainfully at Old Man Wang. With a gentle flick of his sleeve, Old Man Wang was sent flying backward, landing in the mud.
Li Fugui watched Guo the Blind standing with his hands behind his back atop the tree, his eyes filled with caution. "So inflated with pride. It seems you've regained your Dao Body."
Guo the Blind turned to Li Fugui and said, "If my Dao Body were still intact, I would kill every one of your kind on sight. None of you will leave today!"
