I scanned my surroundings, noticing that there were many floating objects in the water, all of which were motionless, suspended in a relatively fixed state.
We navigated through them, occasionally having to push aside obstacles that blocked our path.
The light here seemed to be suppressed to the extreme; the visible distance was pitifully short, likely due to the murky water beneath the warehouse.
However, that faint glimmer of light had clearly caught our attention. Though we did not know what it was, it undoubtedly made us more cautious.
But Fat Ma thought differently. After descending, he began rummaging around without a care in the world, completely unaffected by what had happened earlier.
I stepped forward and grabbed Fat Ma, signaling him to be more careful.
He waved me off dismissively, his pockets already filled with treasures he had collected earlier.
I understood what Fat Ma meant; he had forgotten the pain after healing from his wounds.
With no other choice, I followed him, fearing that if he acted recklessly and got into trouble, there would be no one to help him.
There were still many floating particles in the water that blended with the liquid like dust, which was another reason our vision was so blurred.
Fat Ma recklessly rummaged through containers floating in the water, such as a wooden box that had been soaked and damaged. Its exterior was already old and worn.
He pried open the box, and suddenly my view was obstructed. Fat Ma was caught off guard by this unexpected situation.
A surge of violent waves erupted, quickly retreating behind us.
I reacted swiftly as well; a chill ran down my spine, my heart racing as I stepped back. My hand instinctively rested on the dagger at my waist, ready to respond to any sudden developments.
As we retreated a bit, our vision began to clear.
At that moment, the object that had obscured our view came into sight. My heart sank.
Leaves were gracefully swirling in the water, and Fat Ma swam over to me, appearing indifferent as he observed with a cold gaze.
I didn't say anything because it was impossible to speak underwater.
Fat Ma puffed up his cheeks, his chubby face adorned with a smile. He quickly swam back up.
The leaves scattered even more due to Fat Ma's movement, sinking beneath the surface.
I swam up and picked up a leaf to examine it; it seemed to be tea leaves, I concluded in my mind. I had indeed been startled; anything could appear in this body of water.
What was once a stagnant pool had come alive thanks to me and Fat Ma.
A Mud Man swam over from behind me. Without waiting for him to say anything, I shook my head to indicate that everything was fine; it was just a false alarm.
He glanced at the tea leaves on the bottom and understood, saving us both the effort of communication.
After entering through the entrance, we found ourselves right in the middle of the warehouse. Once Fat Ma descended, he began organizing and directing things, acting on his own initiative.
As a result, Brother Jiang and the Mud Man were left behind by us.
I looked back and noticed Brother Jiang heading in that direction. When he turned around, Fat Ma suddenly took off like a wild horse running free.
I was momentarily speechless.
Suddenly recalling the purpose of our trip mentioned by Brother Jiang, I decided to have the Mud Man and Fat Ma accompany me. The Mud Man agreed without hesitation.
I swam toward the direction where Brother Jiang was located.
The hull of the ship beneath the deck was not heavily damaged; it was mostly intact, creating a closed-off space. The area illuminated by our Searchlight was roughly about a meter in radius.
If we drifted too far apart, all I could see was a cluster of light.
I followed the light where Brother Jiang was. Using his shoulder for support, I pulled myself up and settled beside him.
Brother Jiang was looking up, searching for something. Curious, I tilted my head back to see what he was looking at. The deck above us had been opened.
There wasn't anything particularly special about it.
I glanced at Brother Jiang again and noticed he was quite focused.
His concentration piqued my curiosity, so I waved my hand in front of his eyes. Once he realized it was me, he immediately gestured for me to be quiet.
I had no choice but to stay still while he continued to gaze upward. Bored, I followed his gaze as well.
Suddenly, the previously flat deck began to bulge, slowly shifting within the surface before accelerating.
I felt a surge of surprise as I saw Brother Jiang spring into action, chasing after the movement.
It moved quickly across the deck.
Finally, it broke through the surface, and a burst of light illuminated the area in an instant.
But in the next moment, just as I was wide-eyed watching it, that burst of light vanished.
My heart skipped a beat as Brother Jiang's footsteps halted where the light had disappeared.
He carefully moved his body, and I hurried to follow. I reached out with my hand, trying to grasp something, but caught nothing.
Brother Jiang looked a bit tense and told me not to move recklessly.
At that moment, I felt a searing heat on the sole of my foot. Instinctively, I kicked my leg, lost my balance, and fell into the water.
Brother Jiang managed to grab me just in time.
I saw that the glowing orb had vanished.
It was then that I realized I had been attacked by that light. I glanced at my foot and felt a wave of fear wash over me.
My diving suit, along with the clothes underneath, had been burned through, and the sole of my foot was red from the burn. If it had lasted any longer or affected a different part of my body, I would have been in serious trouble.
To think such a thing could happen underwater! It was truly unbelievable.
I regained my balance and steadied myself, reminding myself to be cautious; they were completely elusive.
Brother Jiang pulled out a bag from his pocket, though I couldn't tell what material it was made of.
I widened my eyes to observe the surroundings. Just then, tiny specks floating in the water began to gather like dust. A burst of light flashed suddenly, blinding me momentarily and sending a wave of dread surging through me.
Suddenly, everything went dark. When I could see again, the light had disappeared. Had I already died? When I spotted Brother Jiang again, I realized I was still alive.
Brother Jiang was calmly tying up a bag in his hands when suddenly, it shook as if a hole had been burned through it. Yet that glowing orb did not reappear.
As I searched for it, the light swiftly gathered again and charged toward Brother Jiang.
In that instant, I felt a rush of anxiety for him; if it were me, there was no way I could dodge it.
But what I didn't expect was that Brother Jiang actually swung the bag in his hand, and the light suddenly vanished.
I suddenly understood that these tiny creatures only emitted light when they gathered together and posed a threat to humans. Once they were scattered, they were nothing to worry about.
With a way to deal with them, I felt more at ease.
Brother Jiang was not affected by this minor issue and continued to look up at the deck.
I didn't disturb him any further and began searching alongside him. When I spotted the metal sheet, I realized what Brother Jiang was looking for.
It confirmed my earlier suspicion; it was a sealed room that likely hid something inside, perhaps even the person Brother Jiang mentioned he was searching for.
A strange sense of dread surged within me.
Brother Jiang and I swam to the top of the deck, gazing at the metal sheet. It was much thicker than I initially thought; what I had imagined to be thin was now covered in dense oxidation from the water. A layer of rust clung to its surface.
As I touched it, rust continuously fell away. Upon realizing this, I rubbed the metal sheet more vigorously, and with each contact, more metal shavings fell off. A sharp pain spread through my hand as a trickle of blood elegantly flowed from the metal surface…
I quickly withdrew my hand.
