I piled the Fur I had shed to the side, and even now, looking at it sent a shiver down my spine; I had almost met my end just moments ago.
The Mud Man jumped down from above. Still shaken, I asked, "Did you see what was up there?"
He shook his head and began to clear the Fur that was tangled around his dagger.
Fat Ma said, "Old Sun, it attacked you. Didn't you see anything?"
I shook my head. I had no chance to look; the Fur felt like countless hands wrapping tightly around me, leaving me no opportunity to break free.
I looked up, and everything appeared calm as if nothing had happened.
After a moment, I suggested, "How about we go up and take a look?"
Neither of them objected. I took out the mechanized rope we had prepared earlier, which was designed to be shot up using the power of a Crossbow. The outside of the rope had an Iron Claw attached to secure it.
I pulled back the Crossbow, and the rope extended upward under tension, quickly snagging onto a protruding rock. I tugged on it forcefully to test its stability.
Once I confirmed it was secure, I prepared to climb up the rope.
Fat Ma pushed past me and said, "Let me do it; my Submachine Gun is accurate." With that, he began to climb up the rope. After a couple of steps, he turned back and warned us, "Whatever you do, don’t shoot randomly; otherwise, my backside will end up as a target. Just thinking about it gives me chills."
We promised him we wouldn’t.
Fat Ma continued climbing while we stayed below, worried that the rope might not hold enough weight. To avoid any accidents, we let him go up alone first.
After climbing about four or five meters, his figure became harder to see.
He climbed another meter and then shouted down, "Old Sun, there's an opening up here."
I quickly replied, "Fatty, don’t go in yet; wait for us to catch up!"
Fat Ma responded, and the mud man began to climb up. I was the last to go up. What greeted us was an opening, about the height of a person.
After discussing for a moment at the entrance, we decided to go inside.
Before we entered, Fat Ma said, "Let's throw a flare first." As Fat Ma tossed the flare inside, a bright and intense white light illuminated the area, followed by a short, sharp scream.
Seizing the opportunity, Fat Ma fired a burst of bullets into the opening, flashes of fire erupting continuously. He only stopped after emptying the magazine and reloaded, still wanting to shoot when I stopped him.
The glow of the flare was beginning to fade.
We immediately rushed in; the tunnel was deep and turned sharply out of sight. I ran at the front.
Fat Ma reminded me, "Be careful not to accidentally fire!"
I ignored him; that guy clearly looked down on me.
After chasing for a while, I caught sight of Fur. "Damn," I cursed in shock, trying to suppress my fear.
But in an instant, that figure of Fur vanished without a trace.
I grew anxious; today I had to see its true form.
I pushed myself to run faster as the tunnel began to narrow, going from one person high to about half that height. I started to crouch down as I moved forward. My pace unconsciously slowed.
The cramped space helped me calm down somewhat, and I became more alert. Although my shooting skills weren't great, in critical moments, my submachine gun could still be effective. I kept my finger on the trigger, ready at any moment.
Fat Ma reached a point where he couldn't follow anymore and shouted, "Old Sun, don't go in there!"
I replied to Fat Ma, "You wait outside!"
Due to his physical condition, Fat Ma had no choice but to wait outside.
The mud man closely followed me and warned, "Be careful; something feels off."
I nodded, feeling a similar sense of unease, my body growing increasingly cold.
After crouching and moving for a while, I cursed under my breath as the path shifted again.
Taking a deep breath, I steeled myself to continue forward. My instincts told me we were nearing the end. After crawling for about ten more meters, I suddenly stopped and said, "We can't go any further."
Just as the Mud Man was about to speak, a strange sound echoed—a slithering noise—as the Fur appeared, tightly wrapping around my gun. I pushed and pulled in response, but the Mud Man quickly grabbed hold of me.
We found ourselves in a tug-of-war with that mass of Fur. In this cramped space, we were at a disadvantage and couldn't exert our full strength.
Feeling overwhelmed, I had no choice but to let go of my gun. We stumbled backward, and in the next moment, my legs were ensnared, pulling me inward.
I hadn't even had time to react before I was being dragged inside.
In that moment, illuminated by the light, I caught a glimpse of the source of the Fur. Damn it! Just as I was about to see more clearly, my headlamp was suddenly obscured.
Damn it! Did it fear the light? At that moment, the Mud Man grabbed my hand, slowing my pull into the darkness. Realizing this, I urged him to throw a flare.
The Mud Man shouted from behind, "If you throw it poorly, it might hurt you!"
I yelled back, "I can't worry about that now!"
Fat Ma outside heard our anxious exchange and guessed something was wrong; he kept shouting about what had happened.
But at that moment, we had no time to respond.
Hearing my words, the Mud Man made up his mind. He let go of my hand, and in an instant, I was dragged several meters inside. Just then, the flare fell mere inches in front of me.
The intense white light blinded me completely; I couldn't see anything.
Screams erupted around us, accompanied by strange sounds reminiscent of a child just beginning to learn how to speak.
For a moment, I was too blinded to open my eyes, but the force pulling me began to dissipate noticeably.
When I opened my eyes, several minutes had already passed.
My gun lay about a meter in front of me, while a wall was just a meter behind. How did it disappear? I was puzzled.
The Mud Man called out to me, waking me up. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I replied.
I moved a bit further inside and used my foot to pull the gun closer.
I asked the Mud Man, "Did you see how she disappeared?"
"No, the light was too intense. We were too close to see anything clearly." Damn it, we chased her all the way here, and then she vanished inexplicably. It was so frustrating!
I gasped for breath but didn’t retreat. Once I calmed down, a wave of fear washed over me, chilling my heart.
I looked ahead, pressing my hands on the ground to support myself. Damn it, the answer was right in front of me. I steeled myself internally.
Damn it, I tried to move forward again.
The Mud Man cursed at me. "Are you crazy? Why are you going in? It's obvious she's waiting for you right there!"
