Jin Chengyan, already dressed, rose leisurely from the sofa. His deep gray suit made him look particularly sharp, and the air of superiority he exuded created an invisible divide between him and the three others in the room.
He cast a cold glance at Shen Fengye, whom he despised most for being a cheater, especially since he was a man. It was truly a disgrace to their gender!
Next, he looked at Ni Yue. He had heard from a few friends earlier that she was a woman who played hard in their circle. However, they only talked about her; none would lower themselves to associate with her.
Then there was Jono, who was mentioned less frequently in their circle. Recently, however, there had been more talk about the bankruptcy of the Qiao Family.
"Youth!" Jin Chengyan addressed Shen Fengye. Calling him that made Shen Fengye feel somewhat embarrassed, as Jin Chengyan didn’t seem much older than him. Yet, with his status and position, he had every right to speak down to him.
Shen Fengye quickly nodded and responded respectfully.
Though Jono had long lost feelings for Shen Fengye, seeing him in such a state sent a chill through her. How blind had she been to have ever been with someone like him?
"It is indeed your freedom to choose who you want to be with, but you cannot justify your infidelity. As men, we must take responsibility. If you no longer love someone, let them go. Never straddle two boats; such people do not deserve to be called men!" Jin Chengyan spoke with a slight smile on his face, but it was a smile that concealed daggers, making Shen Fengye break out in a cold sweat.
He then turned to Ni Yue. "Miss Ni, let this matter end here. If there’s a next time, not just in this circle but throughout Qin Cheng, your family will have no place to stand."
Ni Yue trembled at his words; Jin Chengyan was definitely someone who meant what he said.
"Th-thank you, Mr. Jin," Ni Yue stammered. If she caused her family to lose their standing in Qin Cheng because of her actions, she would be the sinner of the Ni Family.
"Additionally," Jin Chengyan's gaze finally landed on Jono, his smile now purely genuine.
This left Jono somewhat confused. From Jin Chengyan's veiled warnings to Shen Fengye and Ni Yue earlier, it seemed he was helping her—so why?
"You seem not to have the authority to decide this matter," Jin Chengyan remarked as he briefly glanced at Jono before shifting his focus away.
Ni Yue looked at Jin Chengyan in shock. It was clear to anyone that he was assisting Jono. She felt deeply resentful but knew that given Jin Chengyan's status and position, there was nothing she could do.
"Yes," Ni Yue replied quietly, lowering her head.
Jin Chengyan let out a cold snort and turned to walk towards the floor-to-ceiling window.
Before long, Jin Chengyan's secretary, Alice, entered and informed him that she had already dealt with the reporters. There would be no trace of this incident on any platform.
Jin Chengyan had his back to them, his expression hidden from view.
“Alice, the Jin Family will no longer collaborate with the Ni Family or anyone associated with them,” Jin Chengyan said calmly.
The people in the room were taken aback by Jin Chengyan's decision.
Alice knew that although her boss could be domineering, dictatorial, and ruthless at times, he always thought carefully about decisions related to the company. He had never been so merciless towards a group before; it seemed that Miss Ni had truly crossed Jin Chengyan's line.
Ni Yue looked at Jin Chengyan in panic. In the Qin Cheng business circle, it was impossible not to have any collaboration with the Jin Family. If Jin Chengyan was so explicit in refusing to work with the Ni Family, it would effectively undermine their standing in Qin Cheng!
As for Jono, she didn’t interject to plead for mercy from Jin Chengyan nor did she embellish the situation. This was entirely Jin Chengyan's decision and had nothing to do with her, right?
When the Qiao Family went bankrupt, Jono had already put aside the matter of Ni Yue getting involved with her boyfriend and had sought help from the Ni Family for the Qiao Family. However, the Ni Family's response was to shut their doors.
If it were just two families with a casual relationship, it would be one thing, but the Qiao Family and the Ni Family had been close for many years. It was said that true feelings are revealed in times of hardship, and one could also discern friend from foe!
She watched indifferently as Alice “invited” Ni Yue and Shen Fengye out of the room.
Coming back to her senses, she realized her own situation and glanced at the man standing by the floor-to-ceiling window.
The Prosperity Hotel was situated in an excellent location; at thirty-eight stories high, this man could look down over the entire city. He stood at the pinnacle of success.
Yet somehow, Jono felt that this silhouette appeared quite lonely.
After all, it is cold at great heights.
She gently prepared to leave when unexpectedly, she heard Jin Chengyan call out to her.
“Jono, stay.”
Jono silently cursed his luck. Was he really going to hold her accountable for being dragged into this mess? After all, it all started because of her.
If he treated her the same way he dealt with Ni Yue, she would truly be unable to handle it!
“Mr. Jin, I’m really sorry for the trouble I’ve caused you today. Right now, all I can do is apologize; there’s nothing else I can offer as compensation…”
“No, you do have something,” Jin Chengyan turned around, a confident smile gracing his handsome face.
In that brief moment, a bold idea had taken root in his mind.
He felt it was necessary to take a gamble.
At that instant, Jono was indeed taken aback. Jin Chengyan was like a walking embodiment of hormones, exuding an irresistible charm.
“Huh?” What could she possibly offer as compensation? The most she had on her was fifty dollars, and besides, Jin Chengyan wasn’t lacking in money.
What he lacked was…
“We should get married. I need a wife.”
