The Demon King revealed a sinister smile. Wang Niu and Bai Yu had also arrived at a safe place, which was very close to Toothless River. This was precisely why they chose this location, as it allowed them to be near Ruoxi. Wang Niu looked up at the sky; although it was overcast, it was the perfect time for their plan.
"Wang Niu, is today really the right day?" Bai Yu asked seriously.
"Yes, the Yin Qi is almost nonexistent today, while the Yang Qi is abundant. In this situation, dealing with these ghosts will be very easy, and their control over Ruoxi will become weaker. This way, we can take the opportunity to rescue Ruoxi!" Bai Yu explained.
Wang Niu nodded in agreement. "Then let's do it tonight!"
As the moonlight grew brighter, Bai Yu nudged Wang Niu and said, "Look, we can move now!"
Wang Niu followed Bai Yu's gaze; tonight's moonlight was eerie, perhaps due to the strong Yang Qi.
"Bai Yu, do you think anything unexpected will happen tonight?" Wang Niu asked.
Bai Yu shook his head. "It shouldn't. Don't worry!"
Wang Niu nodded, and together they approached Toothless River. They hid in the bushes and did not rush out immediately.
"Wang Niu, look in the river!" Bai Yu urged him, pointing towards the water.
Wang Niu peered into the river and saw bubbles rising densely from below, creating an unsettling atmosphere. The bubbles multiplied and slowly floated to the surface. At that moment, Wang Niu spotted the ghosts from before appearing one by one!
They all looked lifeless, as if their strings had been pulled taut. Suddenly, these ghosts froze in mid-air and began to emit a dark mist that was gradually absorbed by the moonlight.
"What are they doing?" Wang Niu wondered aloud.
Bai Yu followed Wang Niu's gaze and explained, "The Yin Qi from their bodies is being absorbed by the Yang Qi in the moonlight. Wait a moment; soon a beam of light will emerge from this moonlight. This beam is crucial as it contains hidden energy. When it appears, you must rush over and absorb it because it lasts only four seconds!"
Wang Niu nodded solemnly in understanding. Just then, the light Bai Yu spoke of appeared!
Suddenly, Bai Yu spotted it and shouted to Wang Niu, "It's here! Quick!"
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned but quickly moved forward to absorb the light! His speed was incredible; just as the light was about to vanish, he successfully absorbed its power!
Bai Yu let out a sigh of relief. However, at that moment, the surface of the water began to change dramatically, leaving Bai Yu startled. Could something unexpected be happening?
The ripples on the water grew more pronounced, causing Bai Yu's heart to race with anxiety. Wang Niu was oblivious to this tension until he noticed that something was approaching him from the water's surface.
"Bai Yu!" he exclaimed as he realized what was coming.
"Be careful!" Bai Yu warned as she spotted a giant dragon approaching them!
Wang Niu also saw the dragon but felt an odd familiarity with it as if he had seen it somewhere before.
"What's wrong with you?" Bai Yu asked curiously when she noticed Wang Niu's dazed expression during this critical moment.
Wang Niu snapped back to reality but slowly felt his strength returning!
"Bai Yu, this is wonderful!" he exclaimed joyfully, which piqued Bai Yu's curiosity.
"What's going on? Did you regain your strength?" she asked in confusion.
Wang Niu nodded earnestly. "Yes! The energy within me has returned! I can protect you now!"
"Really?" Bai Yu felt elated for him!
Just then, Wang Niu sensed something amiss; his expression shifted to one of concern.
Bai Yu paused and looked anxiously at Wang Niu as his demeanor darkened.
Suddenly, dark mist began to emanate from Wang Niu’s body! At that moment, the night sky grew darker around them as Yang Qi gradually faded away while Yin Qi surged.
Wang Niu seemed stunned but quickly used his strength to suppress this dark force until it slowly dissipated from his body.
At that moment, the ghosts suspended in mid-air suddenly stirred as if awakening from a slumber. This made Bai Yu's heart race with alarm. "We need to leave quickly; these ghosts are about to recover!"
This made Wang Niu uneasy as he replied, "Can't we just deal with these ghosts directly?"
Bai Yu shook his head helplessly; while they could theoretically confront them now that Wang Niu had regained some strength, she dismissed that idea due to his earlier struggle with dark energy.
Even though Wang Niu had regained some energy within him, it didn't mean they should risk confronting those ghosts without proper control over his powers—doing so could lead to disastrous consequences!
"No way!"
Hearing Bai Yu's words made Wang Niu relent and follow her away from there.
"What you need to do now is focus on regulating your energy," Bai Yu instructed him.
Wang Niu sat down and nodded at Bai Yu while beginning to meditate on his energy flow. Suddenly he felt a surge within him trying to break free!
His expression turned grave as he found himself lifted into mid-air! This left Bai Yu stunned for a moment before she flew up and pressed him back down!
"Are you okay?" she asked while channeling energy into him as she noticed his strange expression.
Feeling uneasy herself at his condition, Bai Yu watched as Wang Niu shook his head reassuringly.
Then suddenly a burst of light erupted from within him! This astonished Bai Yu; she felt helpless in that moment!
Wang Niu was equally taken aback when that light transformed into the giant dragon they had seen earlier!
Bai Yu was confused; how did this dragon revert back?
In an instant, she felt an overwhelming force pulling her away! As she tried to approach again, she found herself blocked by an invisible wall that had appeared before her!
This made her anxious; thankfully though Wang Niu seemed unharmed—her gaze remained fixed on him!
The dragon suddenly encircled Wang Niu!
Soon after, more light radiated from the dragon’s body. Taking a deep breath, Wang Niu sensed that his energy flow was becoming smoother!
Before long, beams of light began entering Wang Niu’s body from the dragon! He realized that it seemed like the dragon was helping him digest this energy!
Gratitude filled Wang Niu’s heart for the dragon! His body gradually returned to its previous state—a process that continued for quite some time until he suddenly lifted his head and released a burst of white gas into the air; soon after rain began falling!
Bai Yu felt this rain too—it had an oddly enchanting quality!
She opened her hands and noticed her palms were tinged with a mysterious aura carrying traces of energy!
This strange rain puzzled her greatly—it didn’t last long before stopping altogether. Taking a deep breath while observing this scene unfold before her eyes, she approached Wang Niu only to find that previous barrier had vanished!
"Do you feel better?" Bai Yu asked excitedly!
Wang Niu nodded in response. "Yes! I think I've regained my Heavenly Emperor identity!"
Bai Yu wasn’t surprised by this revelation; she had known about Wang Niu’s true identity all along!
"Wang Niu," she said softly, "you seem troubled... Are you worried that once you rescue your friends you'll leave me behind?"
Although what he said didn’t reflect her true concerns at all, Bai Yu wanted to hear what else he might say next.
So she nodded affirmatively. "Yes."
Upon hearing her response, Wang Niu paused briefly before saying gently: "Actually, you don’t need to worry—Ruoxi is very kind; you can come with us when we leave so you won’t feel lonely anymore!"
As she looked at him closely now filled with complex emotions swirling inside her heart!
