Ling Er's face wrinkled as she looked at the woman and said to Wang Niu, "You stay here and wait. I'll go help the woman."
With that, Ling Er flew off to assist the woman. For a moment, Wang Niu was taken aback; there was something strange about the way this woman interacted with Ling Er.
"What are you doing?" The woman exclaimed, her expression one of surprise upon Ling Er's arrival.
Ling Er didn't respond to the woman but continued to fight against the Demons. Seeing this, the woman chose not to question Ling Er further. During their battle, a Demon quietly approached from behind them. Wang Niu suddenly realized what was happening and rushed in front of the woman and Ling Er, warning them, "Be careful! There’s a monster behind you!"
As soon as he spoke, both the woman and Ling Er seemed to understand what was happening. They quickly eliminated the monster that had appeared behind them. Afterward, both women sighed in relief, which instantly eased Wang Niu's worries. However, the surrounding Demons were still not dealt with. The woman looked at the ghastly faces around her with concern; after all, these monsters seemed impossible to kill.
"Wait here; let me handle this," Ling Er said as she pushed both of them aside.
Just as Wang Niu was about to step forward to help Ling Er, the woman stopped him. "Don't go over there; it could make things worse."
Wang Niu froze for a moment upon hearing Ling Er's words and had no choice but to halt his steps. He glanced around and noticed that something felt off; an unusual amount of black mist had suddenly appeared.
"What’s going on?" he asked the woman in confusion.
The woman looked at Wang Niu with an expression that suggested she wasn't sure whether to explain. Seeing her like this made Wang Niu anxious. Finally, she spoke up, "This is something from Ling Er; it's her way of protecting herself."
As soon as she finished speaking, the black mist surrounded the Yang-Absorbing Ghosts.
In an instant, those Yang-Absorbing Ghosts found themselves enveloped by the smoke emanating from Ling Er.
"Ah!" Pain flickered across the faces of the Yang-Absorbing Ghosts.
"Great!" Wang Niu smiled at this scene.
"Yes, those Yang-Absorbing Ghosts will be digested by Ling Er."
"Digested?" Wang Niu echoed in disbelief. Could these Yang-Absorbing Ghosts really be digested?
"Yes, you'll see soon enough."
Wang Niu's gaze turned towards the scene, where the Yang-Absorbing Ghosts were ensnared by the black mist, one by one being lifted into the air by the dark fog surrounding Ling'er. Suddenly, Ling'er opened her mouth wide, and Wang Niu paused for a moment, recalling what the woman had said earlier. Could it be that Ling'er was digesting those Demons?
Soon after, the Yang-Absorbing Ghosts began to shrink dramatically, resembling thin sticks.
In just a short while, these Yang-Absorbing Ghosts transformed into wisps of white smoke, which slowly floated towards Ling'er's mouth, completely enveloping her as she absorbed them.
"What is happening?" Wang Niu was astonished. This was the first time he had seen Ling'er in such a state. He suddenly remembered that Ling'er seemed to be a fox; since she was a fox, it made sense that these things would not be surprising.
With this thought, Wang Niu understood.
He looked at Ling'er, and the complex emotions on his face gradually faded. Before long, Ling'er had digested everything at an astonishing speed. Wang Niu swallowed hard as Ling'er turned around and walked towards him, asking, "Did I scare you?"
As she spoke, her expression was particularly fearful, as if she were being cautious.
Wang Niu was taken aback, feeling a strange emotion arise within him—one that puzzled him greatly.
He instinctively glanced at the woman, whose face was calm. For some reason, Wang Niu's heart trembled suddenly with an inexplicable sense of heartache. He looked at the woman and then said to Ling'er, "It's alright."
Upon hearing his response, Ling'er smiled awkwardly. Noticing the atmosphere had become somewhat tense, the woman suggested, "Let's go; we shouldn't linger here too long."
Ling'er and Wang Niu nodded in agreement as the three of them set off. They ventured further inside but soon came across several corpses lying on the ground.
"Oh my God, these people look like they just died!" Wang Niu exclaimed in shock. These individuals had been killed by the Yang-Absorbing Monsters.
"Yes, they all fell victim to those Yang-Absorbing creatures just now," the woman remarked calmly.
Ling'er seemed to recall something and said to Wang Niu, "We need to hurry; we can't stay here."
After saying that, their pace quickened even more.
However, what they did not expect was that something had appeared behind them—a massive net that instantly enveloped them tightly.
"Be careful!"
At that moment, they were already out of time. In just a second, they were surrounded by a massive net.
Wang Niu's heart filled with terror. He struggled desperately, but the more he fought, the more pain he felt, as if he were being stabbed by a knife. The woman noticed the subtle change in his expression and quickly shouted for him to stop. Wang Niu complied with her request.
"Don't do anything foolish," the woman said to Wang Niu.
"But—"
Before Wang Niu could finish his sentence, they were completely enveloped by the enormous net.
Soon after, they fell into unconsciousness on the second floor.
It was unclear how much time had passed before they finally regained consciousness.
"What is this place?" Wang Niu asked, looking around in confusion.
The woman also surveyed their surroundings. After a moment, her expression turned serious. "It seems we are in Rock Cave."
"Rock Cave?" Wang Niu echoed, seemingly asking the woman what kind of place this was.
The woman nodded and stood up, her gaze scanning the area. It was then that Wang Niu noticed Ling Er was still unconscious. He froze for a moment; could something have happened to her?
Wang Niu called the woman over and asked, "What happened to Ling Er?"
The woman hesitated, appearing somewhat helpless. She replied to Wang Niu, "When we were brought here, we were on top of Ling Er, so she fainted from being crushed. To wake her up, we'll have to wait a bit."
Upon hearing her words, Wang Niu felt embarrassed. Just then, a sound came from ahead. Wang Niu froze again; the woman seemed to understand something and quickly pulled him down, speaking rapidly, "Lie down!"
Wang Niu was taken aback and hadn't figured out what was happening when darkness enveloped him. The woman used her energy to temporarily knock him unconscious. Then he heard footsteps approaching; they grew louder and closer. Wang Niu's heart raced, but he still couldn't open his eyes or move.
"These people... why don't we just kill them?" a voice reached Wang Niu's ears.
"No! The King wants them alive. We need to drag them to where the King ordered before he decides what to do with them."
"Alright."
As the words left his lips, Wang Niu felt as if someone was dragging him up. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly, and with each passing moment, his worry grew. What was it that kept grabbing at them?
After a long while, the force seemed to have vanished, yet he found himself unable to move. Just then, a sudden surge of power coursed through his body, and Wang Niu felt he could move again. He couldn't help but feel a rush of joy as he opened his eyes. However, the sight before him startled him so much that he almost cried out, but a hand quickly covered his mouth. Wang Niu jumped in surprise, and when he realized the person covering his mouth was a woman, he let out a sigh of relief. The woman whispered to him, "Don't speak; it will attract the attention of nearby creatures."
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned as he noticed the worry etched on the woman's face. He nodded in response. At that moment, another woman approached them.
The woman's expression changed instantly. She pulled Wang Niu behind her and said urgently, "Don't say anything, understand? And don't make eye contact with that woman."
Wang Niu was taken aback; he didn't quite understand what she meant.
"What’s going on?" he asked the woman in confusion.
She shook her head and replied, "I can't explain it to you; just listen to me."
Wang Niu nodded at her, and then a stunning woman stood before them.
Wang Niu didn’t focus on her; the stunning woman's gaze was fixed not on him but on the other woman. A smile curled on her lips as she said, "Ruoxi, heh."
The woman suddenly trembled and looked at the stunning woman in front of her. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Don’t know? Well, let me remind you: you are Ruoxi, right?"
Wang Niu's body shuddered at the name—Ruoxi. Why did it feel so familiar?
"You are called Ruoxi," Wang Niu said as he looked at the woman.
She froze for a moment, unsure how to respond to him. At that moment, the stunning woman's gaze fell upon Ruoxi again. She said to Wang Niu, "Look at you; you've truly forgotten your past life memories. But it doesn't matter; after all, you're both going to die. I'll tell you this: she is Ruoxi, your woman in this life."
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned, as if his mind was about to explode with a tremendous pain.
"Wang Niu, what's wrong?" Ruoxi asked, her voice filled with concern.
"My head hurts so much," Wang Niu said, clutching his head tightly, which made Ruoxi feel anxious.
She glared at the woman in front of her and said, "Why are you doing this? Didn't we agree on 'No Interference Between Wells and Rivers'?"
The woman laughed heartily and replied to Ruoxi, "You are so naive. Do you really think it's possible to keep our waters separate?"
Ruoxi's expression suddenly changed; she hadn't expected the woman to still hold a grudge over past events. This realization made her feel a headache coming on.
"Heh heh, today is your death day. If I’m not mistaken, your energy hasn’t recovered yet, and you’re no match for me now," the woman laughed maniacally.
At that moment, a stream of White Smoke shot toward the woman. She didn’t notice it at first, but when it hit her, her face turned from confusion to horror. She froze in disbelief as she looked down at her abdomen, where a large hole had suddenly appeared. Stunned, she watched as the White Mist surged toward her again. It sliced through her like a sharp knife, tearing her apart in an instant.
In less than a minute, the woman's body split in two, and smoke began to billow from her form until she vanished completely.
"What... what just happened?" Although Wang Niu felt relieved that the woman was gone, he couldn't shake off the mystery of the White Mist.
He glanced at the ground beside him but found Ling Er was already gone. His heart sank—could that White Mist have been Ling Er?
He hesitated for a moment before asking Ruoxi beside him, "What’s going on?"
Just as Ruoxi was about to respond, the White Mist suddenly appeared next to him. Instinctively, Wang Niu reached out and caught it. In that instant, the White Mist transformed into Ling Er.
Ling Er looked extremely weak, which deepened Wang Niu's unease. A chilling sensation crept over him.
Could it be that Ling Er was dying?
"Ling Er, are you okay?" Wang Niu asked anxiously.
Ling Er shook her head and said weakly, "I... I'm fine. It's just that I can't go with you to find Uncle Chen anymore."
Upon hearing Ling'er’s words, Wang Niu's heart skipped a beat. He quickly asked her, "What’s going on?"
Seeing the anxious expression on Wang Niu's face, Ling'er suddenly smiled and said, "Is it too much to ask you to say you like me?"
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned by her request. Ling'er's gaze dimmed instantly, and Ruoxi, witnessing this scene, remained silent. As time passed, Ling'er's complexion grew increasingly worse.
Suddenly, Ling'er coughed up Black Blood, which made Wang Niu tense up. He held her tightly and shouted, "Ling'er, what’s wrong? Ruoxi, can you help her?"
Ruoxi was taken aback for a moment but nodded. Just as she was about to touch Ling'er, a force suddenly repelled her.
Ruoxi was thrown heavily to the side, causing Wang Niu's heart to tighten. He quickly set Ling'er down and rushed to embrace Ruoxi. "Ruoxi, are you okay?"
Ruoxi shook her head and assured him that she was fine.
Wang Niu let out a sigh of relief and said to Ruoxi, "I’m glad you’re okay."
"Ling'er, do you really not want to hear me say it?" A hint of disappointment appeared on Ling'er's face as her eyelids began to droop.
Wang Niu felt deeply conflicted. He cared about Ruoxi's feelings but couldn't bear the thought of losing Ling'er.
As he wrestled with his emotions, Ruoxi's voice reached him. "Go ahead; I’m fine."
Her words made Wang Niu's heart tremble as he looked at Ruoxi in disbelief.
"Ruoxi, you really don’t mind?" he asked her.
Ruoxi paused for a moment before replying, "How could I not care? But I understand you."
After hearing this, Wang Niu nodded at Ruoxi and walked toward Ling'er, who was now barely conscious.
"I like you," he said urgently just as Ling'er's eyes were about to close.
Ling'er caught his words and opened her eyes wide with a smile in her gaze. "Wang Niu, thank you. I’m satisfied."
Then, Ling'er truly closed her eyes, and gradually, her body began to fade away.
Wang Niu's heart jolted in shock; he never expected that Ling'er would actually die.
"What is happening?" Wang Niu stood up and looked at Ruoxi. Ruoxi's expression was complex as he gazed at Wang Niu and said, "This... Ling'er used her own life to end that woman's life just now. Naturally, her life also..."
By the time Ruoxi finished speaking, Wang Niu understood. He shook his head in disbelief and said, "No, I can't believe this is true."
"I know you don't want to accept this, but Ling'er is already dead," Ruoxi sighed. Although she didn't particularly like Ling'er, she still didn't want to see this happen.
Ruoxi sighed again and waved his hand. A wisp of black mist appeared around them, and when the mist dissipated, they found themselves in another place.
"Where is this?" Wang Niu was momentarily stunned.
Ruoxi stood up, looked around, and said to Wang Niu, "We've arrived. Let's go find Uncle Chen. Ling'er's situation was an accident—none of us could have predicted it. Let's just consider this matter closed."
Wang Niu suddenly froze for a moment, unsure how to respond.
He could only nod and say okay, but his heart was still filled with guilt.
Ruoxi suddenly turned to Wang Niu and asked, "Are you still feeling guilty about Ling'er?"
Wang Niu nodded, and Ruoxi fell silent. The atmosphere was somewhat heavy as they walked along. At that moment, Wang Niu called out to Ruoxi, "Can I ask you a question?"
Ruoxi was surprised by Wang Niu's words. After thinking for a moment, she replied, "Sure, go ahead."
Wang Niu looked at Ruoxi and asked, "Do you know Ling'er's true identity?"
True identity.
Ruoxi's heart skipped a beat as she nodded at Wang Niu and said, "Yes. In her previous life, Ling'er was your girlfriend; her name was A Yao. Do you remember?"
