"Yes, we should hurry and leave," Ling'er said, her tone suddenly serious. She grabbed Wang Niu's arm as dark mist began to rise from the roof of Uncle Chen's shop. Such a phenomenon would not occur in an ordinary house.
When they arrived, Wang Niu was stunned. How had Uncle Chen's shop turned into this?
Everything inside had been thrown about, and the place was covered in dust, suggesting it had been like this for quite some time.
"What happened here?" Wang Niu's mind was filled with confusion.
Ling'er shook her head at him, equally perplexed. However, the presence of the dark mist indicated that a Demon had appeared here.
As Ling'er stepped inside, the black energy grew thicker the further she went.
"Come here," Ling'er's gaze fell on a pool of blood on the floor. Her heart sank; something terrible must have happened.
Wang Niu rushed over at Ling'er's call and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Ling'er furrowed her brow and replied, "Uncle Chen might be in trouble."
Wang Niu froze for a moment, disbelief etched on his face as he looked at Ling'er. How could Uncle Chen be in danger? In Wang Niu's mind, Uncle Chen was a formidable person.
It was then that he noticed the pool of blood at Ling'er's feet.
"What is this?" Wang Niu's voice trembled slightly as he stared at the bloodstain beneath Ling'er. It seemed he was beginning to grasp something.
Yet deep down, he struggled to accept the truth.
"This is blood, and it's Uncle Chen's," Ling'er told him firmly.
"What are you saying? This is Uncle Chen's blood? Impossible! Uncle Chen is so powerful; how could anything happen to him?"
Ling Er sighed, fully understanding Wang Niu's feelings, but this was Uncle Chen's blood.
"Wang Niu, listen to me. Although this is Uncle Chen's blood, it doesn't mean that Uncle Chen is dead; he has been taken by a Demon," Ling Er said with a serious expression.
"What do you mean, Demon? Isn't Uncle Chen a ghost hunter? How could that happen?" Wang Niu was momentarily at a loss for how to accept this.
"Yes, but there are many Demons this time. Uncle Chen alone cannot handle them," Ling Er explained as she pulled Wang Niu outside.
"Do you see it?" Ling Er pointed to the ceiling of the house.
Wang Niu looked up, but what was Ling Er trying to show him?
"There's nothing there."
Wang Niu's response made Ling Er pause. Did Wang Niu really not see it?
"Can't you see the black mist above us?"
Wang Niu shook his head. It seemed Ling Er remembered something and had an epiphany. She placed her hand on Wang Niu's head, and he suddenly felt a strange sensation flowing into his mind.
"What is this?" he asked, puzzled.
"This is to open your heavenly eye. Look again and see the situation on the ceiling now," Ling Er instructed him.
Wang Niu was taken aback for a moment before raising his head to look at the ceiling. There, he saw a thick black mist that looked terrifying, and his expression changed immediately.
"Did you see it?" Ling Er observed his reaction and understood.
Wang Niu nodded with a pale face. After a moment, he asked Ling Er, "What is that thing?"
Linger's expression grew serious as she said, "That is the aura of a Demon. The thicker the black mist here, the more powerful the energy of the Demon must be. That's why Uncle Chen is in trouble."
Upon hearing this, Wang Niu recalled the earlier scene, and his heart began to worry for Uncle Chen. He had come here specifically for him, and now that something had happened to Uncle Chen without any understanding of what it was, Wang Niu felt a deep sense of panic.
"Linger, what should we do?" he asked her.
Linger furrowed her brow and replied, "We need to clear this area first and figure things out later. It's dark now, and the aura here is unstable. There might be other Demons around. We need to set up a formation here to ensure our safety."
Setting up a formation.
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned.
"Does that mean this place isn't the same as before?" he seemed to understand.
Linger hesitated for a moment, then nodded at Wang Niu and stepped outside, seemingly looking for something. After a while, she returned with a grave expression on her face, which made Wang Niu's heart skip a beat. Had something else happened?
"Linger, what's wrong?" Wang Niu hurriedly approached her and asked.
Linger looked outside and said, "I just used my senses to probe the area nearby, and I discovered something alarming: there’s almost no vitality here—only deathly energy."
"What did you say?" Wang Niu was shocked.
"This place is filled with deathly energy, which means there are even more powerful Demons nearby. We must be very careful," Linger's expression turned serious.
"What should we do?"
Linger glanced at Wang Niu and said, "You stay here and tidy up; don't leave this room. I'll be back soon."
With that, Linger disappeared.
Wang Niu stood there for a moment, sighed deeply, and began to clean up the chaotic surroundings.
As he was packing his things, he suddenly froze, a wave of fear engulfing him completely.
He instinctively glanced back, and his face turned pale at the sight of an old woman standing in the doorway.
The old woman stared at him with an expressionless face, her demeanor utterly bizarre.
Startled, he dropped the broom he was holding.
"Hehe, soon you will die too," the old woman said to him.
As soon as she finished speaking, she vanished.
Die.
Wang Niu shivered at the thought. After a moment of hesitation, he resumed packing.
Once he finished, Wang Niu sat down on the ground, exhausted. All his things were packed, but Ling Er still hadn't returned.
This made his heart tremble with unease.
Just then, he heard footsteps nearby and froze again. Could it be Ling Er?
He hurried to the door, only to be met with a terrifying face—it was Old Li.
"You! What are you doing here?" Wang Niu's face turned ashen with fright.
"Hah! You dare sneak back without me knowing!" Old Li's face was filled with anger.
For a moment, Wang Niu didn't know how to respond to Old Li's words.
"Get out here right now!" Old Li shouted angrily at him.
Wang Niu hesitated, just as the words Ling Er had said earlier echoed in his mind.
Wang Niu felt something was off. Why was Old Li standing outside the door? Could it be that Old Li couldn't enter?
This was a barrier set up by Ling'er to prevent those Demons from coming in. Suddenly, a chill ran down Wang Niu's spine. Could it be that Old Li was a Demon?
"Why don't you come in?" Wang Niu asked Old Li.
Upon hearing his words, Old Li's expression changed instantly. Then, he regained his composure and said, "Stop wasting time. Hurry up and come out. Do you think you've encountered a good person? Let me tell you, Bai Ling'er is not a good person at all."
Wang Niu was taken aback by Old Li's words. Bai Ling'er? Was he talking about Ling'er?
Seeing that Wang Niu didn't respond, Old Li pressed on, "Do you want Uncle Chen and yourself to die at her hands?"
Wang Niu's heart sank; he had already felt uncertain, and now Old Li's words left him stunned. What did Old Li mean by that?
"What are you talking about?" Wang Niu looked at Old Li in shock.
Old Li repeated his earlier statement, and Wang Niu felt a wave of disbelief wash over him.
"What do you mean?" He found it hard to believe Old Li's words because Ling'er wasn't that kind of person.
Old Li seemed to sense his disbelief and pulled out a tattered mirror. On the surface of the mirror were a pair of eyes that looked terrifying, almost like the eyes of a living person. Just seeing those eyes sent fear coursing through Wang Niu.
"Don't you want to know the truth?" Old Li offered the mirror to him.
He took the mirror from Old Li's hands and looked into it. Ling'er's figure appeared in the reflection, leaving Wang Niu momentarily stunned. He felt an ominous premonition, and sure enough, in the next moment, he saw Ling'er inside Uncle Chen's shop. Just then, Uncle Chen walked out, and they seemed to be having a conversation.
Suddenly, Ling'er's gaze turned fierce as she raised her hand and directly grabbed Uncle Chen by the throat. This caused an immense reaction within Wang Niu; at that moment, the image vanished.
"What is going on?" Wang Niu lifted his gaze to look at Old Li.
Old Li seemed reluctant to explain but said to him, "Now that you've seen what’s happening, do you believe me? The so-called Ling'er is not a good person."
Although Wang Niu saw the scene in front of him, he still felt something strange in his heart. After all, Old Li gave him the impression that it was unfeasible.
At that moment, Old Li's expression suddenly changed, becoming extremely ferocious, but Wang Niu did not notice.
Suddenly, Old Li reached out his hand towards him.
In an instant, he pulled Wang Niu outside. Wang Niu was startled and didn't know what to do when Ling Er suddenly appeared.
"Let him go," Ling Er said to Old Li.
Old Li snorted coldly at her and replied, "Hmph, you little Demon."
Ling Er looked at Old Li calmly and said, "Those who know the Demon are aware of their own hearts."
After saying that, Ling Er pulled Wang Niu over to her side. Then, she directed a beam of light at Old Li, which struck him directly. In the blink of an eye, Old Li vanished.
"Where did he go? Is he dead?" Wang Niu asked nervously as he let out a sigh of relief.
Ling Er shook her head and said, "No, Old Li won't die that easily."
Afterward, Ling Er seemed to be pondering something. She then lifted her head and looked at Wang Niu. Just then, their gazes collided.
"What's wrong with you?" Ling Er asked as she noticed something off about Wang Niu.
"I... I'm fine."
Ling Er looked at Wang Niu with confusion. As she observed his increasingly unusual expression, she asked him, "Did Old Li show you something?"
Wang Niu was taken aback by Ling Er's words. "How... how did you know?"
Ling Er gave him a deep look and sat down beside him. She said, "What if I told you I have a sense of intuition?"
"Wang Niu" looked at Ling Er with confusion, sensing something in his heart.
However, Ling Er nodded seriously and said to "Wang Niu," "Yes, what if I told you that we knew each other before?"
Her words immediately surprised "Wang Niu." He studied Ling Er's expression carefully; in his memory, he didn't seem to have met her before. Why would she say such a thing?
"Ling Er, what do you mean by that?"
Ling Er looked at him meaningfully and replied, "It means exactly what it says. Now, you should tidy up everything here and take a rest. When the time comes for you to know, you will."
Afterward, Ling Er walked to a nearby spot and closed her eyes, seemingly ready to rest. Seeing this, "Wang Niu" felt it inappropriate to ask her more questions and found a place to rest himself. In the middle of the night, "Wang Niu" was suddenly awakened by a strange sound. He opened his eyes and saw many dark shadows gathering outside the door.
