Wang Niu felt a chill run down his spine as he realized that the Yin Soldiers had discovered him. Just as he was about to quietly slip away, the Yin Soldiers began to approach him one step at a time. At that moment, the Yin General also turned to look at him, their gazes locking in an unsettling collision. He couldn't help but shudder; they had noticed him.
He immediately dashed out from the corner, intending to rush toward the exit, but was quickly grabbed by the Yin Soldiers.
“Giggling,” the Yin Soldiers called out to him.
Wang Niu was terrified; he had no idea what these Yin Soldiers were saying.
Soon after, the Yin General walked over to him as well.
“Giggling,” the Yin General called out.
Wang Niu froze for a moment, unable to comprehend what the Yin General was trying to communicate.
Then, he was led away by the Yin Soldiers. They all exited the temple, with the Yin General following closely behind.
Where were they taking him?
Wang Niu looked at the Yin Soldiers and dared not resist, fearing what terrible actions they might take against him.
Surrounded by the Yin Soldiers, he heard another round of “giggling” as they began to move forward.
Wang Niu hesitated, feeling a push from behind by one of the Yin Soldiers. Now, he could only listen to their commands.
The journey was eerily quiet; not a single person was in sight. He couldn’t escape from the grasp of the Yin Soldiers, which left Wang Niu feeling increasingly distressed.
He noticed that the places they passed seemed to grow darker and more ominous. If this continued, would he really meet his end at the hands of these Yin Soldiers?
He needed to think of a way out. Looking around, his hopes quickly faded.
Just then, for some unknown reason, the Yin Soldiers suddenly came to a halt.
He was taken aback for a moment. The Yin Soldiers seemed to be aware of something, their gazes darting around nervously.
At that moment, the Yin General approached the Yin Soldiers, seemingly giving them instructions.
Then, he heard the sound of roosters crowing.
Upon hearing these sounds, fear spread across the faces of the Yin Soldiers. Suddenly, chaos erupted among them, and even the Yin General appeared flustered.
This made Wang Niu realize something—were these Yin Soldiers afraid of the rooster's crowing?
Wang Niu felt a surge of joy inside; as long as these Yin Soldiers were scared, he had a chance to escape.
Suddenly, wisps of black mist emerged around him, enveloping Wang Niu in an instant. Fear gripped his heart; could it be that the Yin Soldiers were going to take him away?
The rooster's crowing suddenly grew exceptionally loud, as if the entire world was covered by its sound.
Then, Wang Niu felt a chill rush toward him. After a long while, the surroundings finally returned to calm.
Could it be that it was all over?
He blinked in confusion and looked around. At that moment, the shadows of the Yin Soldiers had vanished.
Wang Niu let out a sigh of relief; he never expected that the Yin Soldiers would actually be afraid of roosters.
However, where had those rooster sounds come from? This puzzled Wang Niu.
He glanced over and saw an old man sitting under a large tree on his left, with a chicken resting beside him.
Wang Niu was taken aback. Could it be that the crowing he heard earlier came from the chicken next to the old man?
Was this old man his savior? Wouldn't it be somewhat impolite not to go over and speak with him?
Wang Niu walked over and politely thanked the old man.
The old man opened his eyes and smiled at Wang Niu, saying, "This must be our fate; there's no need to be polite."
Upon hearing the old man's words, Wang Niu was momentarily stunned. He looked at the old man, feeling as if there was a hidden meaning behind his words.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, puzzled.
The old man chuckled and pointed to the letter in Wang Niu's pocket.
Wang Niu blinked in surprise and glanced at his pocket. Could the old man be hinting at something?
His eyes widened as he looked back at the old man. Was he referring to the letter?
Skeptically, he pulled out the letter that Uncle Chen had given him earlier.
The old man stood up, brushed off the dirt from his clothes, and took the letter from Wang Niu's hand. "If this letter is guessed correctly, then it is meant for me."
Wang Niu was taken aback by the old man's words. It was for him?
"I am Old Li, the one Uncle Chen spoke of," Old Li said with a kind expression.
Wang Niu stared at the old man in astonishment. They were still quite a distance from River Town; how had this old man come to find him?
"But weren't you in River Town? How did you end up here?" Wang Niu continued to question him.
Old Li smiled mysteriously, stroking his beard as he replied, "When we are fated to meet, we will naturally encounter each other."
After saying this, Old Li picked up a chicken nearby and handed it to Wang Niu. "Take good care of this chicken; it will be of great use to you in the future."
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned again as he instinctively looked at the chicken in his hands.
The chicken seemed almost sentient, gazing back at Wang Niu. He felt as if it wanted to say something to him.
Old Li looked at Wang Niu and said, "Let's go."
Wang Niu glanced at the spot where the Yin Soldiers had stood earlier, and suddenly, a lot of Joss Paper appeared in that very place.
After that, he followed Old Li away from there.
Once they left, the Yin Soldiers and Yin Generals reappeared faithfully.
They arrived at a small village, and by this time, it was already bright outside.
"Look, this little village has no one in it," Old Li pointed to the small village in front of them and said.
Wang Niu was taken aback for a moment, then refocused his gaze on the village.
It seemed that there really was no one here. However, since the old man knew there was no one around, why did he bring him here?
"Master Old Li, why are we here?"
Old Li smiled and walked into a certain area. Then he turned around and said to him, "Do you know why this little village has become desolate?"
Wang Niu shook his head and replied, "Master Old Li, please just tell me."
Old Li smiled again and said, "Because this village once experienced a fire that burned all the villagers to death."
"What?" Wang Niu seemed startled, looking at Old Li with a surprised expression.
Old Li pointed around to indicate something to Wang Niu. At that moment, Wang Niu realized that everything here had been reduced to ruins by the fire.
He paused for a moment and said to Old Li, "Master Old Li, I'm still not quite sure what you mean."
Old Li smiled and said, "You see, you have already been tainted by Ghostly Aura."
Wang Niu was taken aback by Old Li's words and nodded slightly. Could it be that Old Li had brought him to this village for a reason?
Old Li glanced at him before turning his gaze to the wall beside them. After a while, he remained fixated on the surrounding wall, which piqued Wang Niu's curiosity. He followed Old Li's gaze and saw many dark shadows appearing on the wall, resembling human figures.
"Master Li, what is this?" he asked tentatively.
Upon hearing his voice, Old Li turned to Wang Niu and said, "These are the souls of the deceased."
Wang Niu was startled by Old Li's statement. "What did you say? These are souls?"
Seeing his astonishment, Old Li nodded and replied, "Yes, these souls may look like shadows, but at night, their Yin Qi surges dramatically, creating an overwhelming sensation. If you had opened your Third Eye, you would see that the sky above this village is filled with black resentment."
Wang Niu stared at Old Li in shock. He couldn't understand why Old Li would say such things. If that were true, why were they still staying in this village? Wasn't it dangerous?
"Master Li, should we leave here?" he asked.
