My heart immediately tightened at the thought that Tree Sage might have arrived.
Suddenly, a cloud of White Smoke appeared before me. In an instant, the White Smoke dispersed, revealing Tree Sage standing right in front of me.
Tree Sage looked just as he did before, smiling gently at me. If I hadn't known about Feng Ju, I would have thought Tree Sage was a genuinely good person. However, ever since I learned the truth, my heart twisted with hatred; I wished I could kill Tree Sage right then and there. But if I couldn't defeat him, it would ruin all our plans, so I held back.
“Tree Sage, is there something you need?” I maintained my previous demeanor to prevent him from noticing any changes in me.
“Nothing much, just came to check on you. Did you manage to bring back Ruoxi's soul after going to the isolated island?” Ancient Tree Spirit asked me.
“I have brought back Ruoxi's soul,” I replied honestly.
I knew that Tree Sage would be able to sense Ruoxi's presence. If I lied to him, he would definitely become suspicious.
Tree Sage nodded. Suddenly, his gaze fell upon my hand. It was the ring that Feng Ju had given me earlier, and Feng Ju was currently inside it, causing my heart to race.
“What is this?” A glint of interest flashed in Tree Sage's eyes.
My heart sank. I had heard from Dumeng Princess that this was something only the past Spirit Kings possessed.
In an instant, cold sweat broke out on my back. If Tree Sage found out, we would be finished. I forced myself to remain calm and said it was a token between me and Ruoxi.
A flicker of doubt crossed Tree Sage's eyes but was quickly masked. He extended his hand and asked if he could touch the ring.
I felt frozen for a moment but quickly regained my composure and agreed.
If I outright refused Tree Sage, it would surely raise his suspicions. It was better to let him touch it; perhaps he wouldn’t sense anything unusual after all.
The Tree Sage placed his hand on the ring on my finger, and in an instant, I felt a powerful energy surge into the ring. My heart began to worry, wondering if Feng Ju could withstand the Tree Sage's aura.
After a while, the intense energy faded, and the Tree Sage withdrew his hand. I nervously looked at his face, hoping to find some clue about what had just happened, but there was nothing on his expression. Could it be that the Tree Sage hadn’t noticed anything? This thought made my heart race with excitement.
"It seems this truly is the token between you and Ruoxi. I was a bit skeptical just now," the Tree Sage said, his two pairs of Eyeballs piercing into my soul like Sharp Blades, as if trying to uncover some secret from within me.
Unfortunately, I was not weak either; I suppressed it with the Dragon Qi within me.
"Yes, this is the token between Ruoxi and me. I cherish it greatly and always keep it with me," I said, trying to convince the Tree Sage. To emphasize my sincerity, I even kissed the token.
Suddenly, the Tree Sage laughed and said, "Ruoxi is indeed fortunate to have found such a good man like you. I'm genuinely happy for her."
"Yes, I'm very fortunate too," I replied, knowing that Ruoxi could hear me. Sure enough, after I spoke, I heard Ruoxi's voice.
"Wang Jun, thank you. I love you."
My heart instantly filled with sweetness, and a smile crept onto my lips. At that moment, the Tree Sage's expression turned somewhat awkward; he must have heard what I just said.
"Then I won’t disturb your sweet moments with Ruoxi any longer. In a few days, there will be a Spirit Feast. Do you know about it?" the Tree Sage continued.
I nodded in response as he went on, "Make sure to come. I hope by then Ruoxi will have fully recovered so that we can catch up."
"Sure," I replied.
After that, the Tree Sage left. Not long after he departed, Dumeng Princess walked in.
"What did the Tree Sage come to see you about?" Dumeng Princess asked curiously.
"Probably just to probe for information, but you don't need to worry; he won't find anything," I replied.
"That's good. By the way, I almost forgot—my mind is all over the place," Dumeng Princess said, lightly tapping her head. "Did you know that the leaders of the various tribes are in trouble?"
Upon hearing this, a bad feeling immediately arose within me. Could this be the work of the Tree Sage?
I quickly asked Dumeng Princess what had happened.
"They don't know why, but overnight, their spiritual energy suddenly decreased by half," Dumeng Princess's tone turned serious.
"What?" I stood up abruptly. What could have caused such a drastic change in just one night?
Just then, a Beast Soldier rushed in from outside, his face filled with urgency. "It's bad, Duchess! Something has happened!"
Dumeng Princess and I exchanged worried glances; this must be related to the leaders of those tribes.
"What happened?" I asked the Beast Soldier anxiously.
"The leaders of those tribes don't know what's going on and have come to confront us. They suspect that this incident is related to the Beast King, so they've surrounded him," the Beast Soldier explained.
"What do you mean they surrounded Father?" Dumeng Princess exclaimed in shock.
"Yes, Duchess. You should go see for yourself!"
"Let's go," I immediately pulled the Dumeng Princess and walked into the main hall. As soon as we arrived, I heard the voices of various tribes.
"Why are you unharmed?" The leader of the Wind Tribe was the first to speak.
"Yes, how come you're fine?" The others echoed in agreement. I glanced at the Bird Tribe, noticing that they remained silent.
At least the Bird Tribe was wise enough not to join in the chaos.
"Everyone, quiet down. Didn't I explain this already? This isn't something my beast tribe did. You all know that if my tribe could have drained your spiritual energy overnight, we would have had enough power to destroy you. Why would I take such a foolish risk and leave you alive?" The Beast King remained composed despite facing such a large crowd.
I admired this about him. Stepping into the crowd, I addressed them, "That's right, the Beast King is correct. He doesn't have that capability, and I know who is responsible for this."
As soon as I said that, the crowd erupted in noise, everyone clamoring to know, "Who is it?"
I glanced at the Beast King, who nodded slightly. I then said to the crowd, "If you want to know, you must agree to one thing first. This concerns your lives. If even one person leaks this information, it could lead to everyone's demise."
My words stirred another wave of commotion among them. After a while, they settled down. The Wind King from the Wind Tribe looked at me and said, "Just tell us who did this to us. I promise not to disclose it. Besides, this is a serious matter concerning our lives."
"Yes, go ahead. We can sign a contract."
"Right, as long as we sign a contract."
"Exactly! Let's all sign a contract; it's for everyone's benefit."
Hearing their words made me feel pleased. If we signed this contract, it would ensure our safety. With the contract in place, no one would leak what we discussed prematurely, thus safeguarding our plan.
"Alright, since everyone is willing to sign a contract, let's do it together. It's fair for everyone," I said and extended my hand. Drawing a line in the air, a book appeared above us. I pressed my handprint onto it, signifying that the contract was established.
"I'll join too."
Soon, everyone signed the contract, and I collected it.
"The one who harmed you is the Tree Sage," I said.
As soon as I spoke those words, the crowd erupted into a commotion, discussing what I had just said. Some people seemed skeptical.
"Are you joking?" someone pointed at me immediately.
"Yeah, the Tree Sage is a good person. Why would you say that about the Tree Sage?"
"Exactly, are you trying to stir up trouble?"
The more they spoke, the more agitated they became, as if they were ready to take action against me.
