The voice of Dumeng Princess came through, "Wang Niu, Spirit Officer."
Xiaomei and I were taken aback, glancing at Dumeng Princess in surprise. How did this Duchess arrive here?
Dumeng Princess landed on her flying beast right between Xiaomei and me, immediately charging down to fight off the surrounding monsters.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, astonished as I looked at Dumeng Princess.
She suddenly seemed a bit shy, smiling as she said, "I secretly followed you. You won't blame me, will you?"
Xiaomei let out a cold snort at Dumeng Princess and said, "Really? I think you have ulterior motives."
I was taken aback and looked at Xiaomei. What was wrong with her? How could she say that? I quickly scolded her.
Dumeng Princess laughed awkwardly. Just then, a monster lunged at Xiaomei. My eyes widened in shock as I prepared to save her when Dumeng Princess rushed forward and pulled Xiaomei away. Then, I saw something appear in Dumeng Princess's hand—it looked like a treasure.
The treasure was emerald green and surrounded by sharp spikes.
"Collect!" With Dumeng Princess's command, the treasure emitted a beam of light.
The monsters present suddenly froze, as if they had lost their ability to react. In just a moment, all those monsters were captured by Dumeng Princess's treasure.
I stared in surprise at the treasure in Dumeng Princess's hand. I couldn't believe how powerful it was; in just an instant, the monsters were gone.
"Wang Niu, Spirit Officer, are you okay?" Dumeng Princess asked us.
I glanced at Xiaomei; her expression was very complicated. Seeing that she didn't speak, I quickly replied, "We're fine, thanks to you. By the way, what is this treasure?"
I looked curiously at the item in Dumeng Princess's hand.
"This is a Beast Artifact, a powerful tool unique to our beast tribe. This treasure can deal with all the ferocious beasts in this world," Dumeng Princess explained.
"Impressive," I exclaimed.
"We should keep moving. If it gets late, we could be in danger; this place is very perilous," Dumeng Princess said, glancing around with a serious tone.
I nodded and looked at Dumeng Princess. Since she was here, it was best to stick together.
"Let's go together," I said gently to Dumeng Princess, after all, it was she who had saved me and Xiaomei earlier.
"Okay," Dumeng Princess replied with great joy, her face beaming with a smile.
After walking for a while, the sky gradually darkened. Suddenly, a chilling wind began to howl around us, creating an eerie atmosphere.
I scanned the surroundings and suddenly noticed a shadow darting away quickly behind us. Alarm bells rang in my mind.
"Wait," I called out to them.
They stopped and looked at me in confusion, asking what was wrong.
I kept my gaze fixed on the spot where the shadow had vanished and said, "Something's there; we need to be cautious."
Upon hearing this, Xiaomei immediately took flight, hovering in the air as she surveyed the area.
Dumeng Princess followed suit, circling in the air as if trying to spot the shadow I had mentioned.
After a moment, Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei descended, looking at me with puzzled expressions. "Did you see something? We didn't see any shadow," Dumeng Princess said.
"Yeah, I didn't see anything either. You must have been mistaken," Dumeng Princess added earnestly.
I furrowed my brow. I knew I hadn't been mistaken about the shadow I saw just moments ago. Reluctantly, I decided to move on.
They saw that there was nothing unusual and continued to move forward.
After a while, we came upon a brightly lit area. Upon closer inspection, we realized it was a village. Seeing that it was getting late, I said to them, "How about we stay here for the night and head to the island in the morning? It would be too dangerous otherwise."
Xiaomei nodded and walked toward the village, but Dumeng Princess looked hesitant, as if she were pondering something.
"What's wrong?" I whispered to Dumeng Princess.
"Nothing, let's go," she replied, following Xiaomei. I felt a flicker of unease; Dumeng Princess's expression had been too strange.
As we entered the village, it was eerily quiet, with not a sound to be heard. Suddenly, Xiaomei stopped in her tracks and turned to us, saying, "Something feels off."
I paused and glanced around; indeed, this village felt unusual.
"I think something is wrong too. This road leads to the island, but there shouldn't be a village here," Xiaomei pointed at the village ahead, her tone serious.
"There shouldn't be a village," Xiaomei exclaimed in surprise.
"Exactly. There are no villages here. If we're talking about the island, I know it well—it's filled with monsters or strange things along the way. How could there be people here?" Dumeng Princess added.
My heart sank at her words. Just then, a door from a nearby house creaked open, and a pregnant woman stepped out.
She looked our way and then walked toward us.
I focused all my attention on her and suddenly noticed that her movements seemed odd, almost stiff.
"Everyone be careful," Xiaomei whispered to us.
We immediately adopted a cautious demeanor as the pregnant woman stood before us, her expression very sincere.
"Can you help me with something?" the pregnant woman said to us.
We exchanged cautious glances, watching her silently. The pregnant woman seemed to sense our hesitation and continued, "Please don't be afraid. I won't hurt you. I just need your help. My baby is about to be born, and I would like you to assist me in delivering it."
Her gaze was earnest, and my heart began to twist with uncertainty.
"What exactly are you?" Xiaomei shouted directly at the pregnant woman, suddenly drawing a sword from somewhere and pointing it at her.
"Please, don't kill me! I still have my child," the pregnant woman cried, her face turning pale as she knelt before Xiaomei.
Seeing the fear on her face made me waver. Could we have misjudged her?
I quickly helped the pregnant woman up, but Xiaomei pulled me aside, eyeing her warily. Then she turned to me and said, "What are you doing? This woman is very suspicious. Look around; she's the only one in the entire village. How can that be normal?"
While Xiaomei spoke to me, the pregnant woman suddenly collapsed to the ground.
"What happened?" I rushed over and picked her up, and Xiaomei hurried to my side.
"I don't know! She was fine just a moment ago. She collapsed while you were talking to Xiaomei," Dumeng Princess said.
"Let's not waste time talking. We need to get her inside and see what's wrong. If something happens to her, we won't be able to live with ourselves," I suggested.
Xiaomei and Dumeng Princess hesitated for a moment before agreeing, "Okay."
I carried the pregnant woman into the house, and once inside, I was shocked to find the place covered in blood—it was terrifying.
"Oh my God, what happened here?" Dumeng Princess screamed.
"There must be something serious going on," Xiaomei's tone turned grave as well.
I glanced around and quickly placed the pregnant woman in a safe spot. At that moment, my mind was consumed with nothing else but her well-being. I turned to Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei and asked, "Who will help me save this pregnant woman?"
"I'll do it," Dumeng Princess replied first, stepping forward to join me in waking the woman, while Xiaomei stood by us as our Guardian.
"How strange, there seems to be an unusual type of blood within this pregnant woman's body," Dumeng Princess remarked.
"What do you mean by unusual blood?" I asked, looking at her curiously.
"It's a type of blood from the Other Race. I'm not very familiar with this race either; I only heard my father mention it once. After that, for some reason, this Other Race gradually disappeared," Dumeng Princess explained.
I retracted my Divine Power, and after a while, the pregnant woman finally woke up.
At that moment, the blood on the walls caught my attention. I noticed that the bloodstains extended outside. Following the trail of blood, I stepped outside and was shocked to find that the entire village was marked with these stains.
A cold sweat broke out on my forehead; it was terrifying to think such events had occurred in a village.
"Your Majesty, we need to leave this place; this village is too frightening," Xiaomei said as she stepped forward to address me.
"What’s wrong?" I turned to look at Xiaomei as she approached.
Xiaomei extended her hand, and a faint purple light appeared around it. This purple glow enveloped the entire village. Moments later, the bloodstains on the ground began to float into the air like strands of red ribbons. Then, miraculously, these bloodstains transformed into intact human figures.
I was taken aback; what was happening? All these people returned to their homes, and in the house we were in, others began to enter as well.
