"What's wrong?" I immediately responded to Xiaomei.
"I just remembered something. Let's not go to the Listening Pavilion for now. Come on, Wang Niu, follow me to a place," Xiaomei said mysteriously.
I was taken aback for a moment, but then Xiaomei walked down from where we were staying. I had no choice but to follow her. After we exited the Ghost Gate Cult's old hideout, Xiaomei led me straight in the direction of the Ghost Gate Cult.
"Do you know where they went?" I asked, noticing Xiaomei's confident demeanor.
Xiaomei nodded and said, "What that woman said is true. Although this path leads to the heavens, it also leads to where Princess and the others are. Moreover, there are Celestial Officials there. If they coordinate from inside and outside, it could be troublesome."
Suddenly, I recalled something and urged Xiaomei to quicken her pace.
The Ghost Gate Cult's group was quite large, so after a while of rushing, we finally spotted them.
"They really are heading towards Princess," Xiaomei squinted her eyes.
At that moment, I noticed that the road had split into two main paths.
"We need to blend into their ranks," I said to Xiaomei.
Xiaomei nodded in agreement with my idea. In an instant, she leaped behind one of the Ghost Gate Sect Masters and swiftly twisted his neck. I watched in astonishment; I hadn't expected Xiaomei to be so skilled.
She quickly dragged the body away, and the people in front didn't notice a thing.
I took a deep breath; that was truly close.
"What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and take off their clothes," Xiaomei urged me.
I quickly snapped back to reality and changed into their clothes. Before long, both Xiaomei and I had disguised ourselves as members of the Ghost Gate Cult and blended into their ranks.
Sure enough, the place they were heading to was Paper Mache Street.
"How infuriating," I whispered to Xiaomei.
Xiaomei's expression was very serious, as if she were contemplating a way to achieve a win-win situation.
The team came to a halt, and the Ghost Gate Sect Master was staring ahead. I knew he was watching the barrier surrounding Paper Mache Street.
I wasn't sure what the Ghost Gate Sect Master said to the people beside him, but soon I saw several individuals walk to the edge of the barrier, forming a circle around it, their faces adorned with strange patterns.
"What are they doing?" I asked Xiaomei.
"They're using the evil blood from those people to break through the barrier on Paper Mache Street," Xiaomei said, furrowing her brow.
"Can they really break through?" My heart tightened at the thought.
Xiaomei nodded. "Yes, because the barrier on Paper Mache Street was originally established on evil principles. The people from the Ghost Gate Cult are inherently evil, and their blood and aura are perfectly suited for this. They can use evil to counter evil. Once the barrier is broken, the rules inside will become mere decorations."
Her words made my heart race with anxiety.
"Is there any way to stop them?" I asked.
Xiaomei thought for a moment and said that unless we used the most potent Yang Qi Blood and mixed it into their aura, it would cause a massive reaction in the barrier of Paper Mache Street, significantly increasing its defensive power and potentially backfiring on them.
Suddenly, I realized that my own blood was indeed the most potent Yang Qi Blood.
Without hesitation, I bit my finger and concealed the blood within my power, secretly activating it to transfer my blood onto those individuals.
I watched as black mist enveloped them. Xiaomei pulled me aside and warned, "Be careful; their formation has been activated. The Yang Qi Blood just dripped onto them, which might cause a huge backlash. We need to stay alert."
I nodded and kept my gaze fixed on them.
My heart raced with anxiety, fearing something unexpected might happen. The black energy surrounding them grew larger until it formed a protective shield.
This shield merged directly with the barrier, making it increasingly visible. Soon enough, Paper Mache Street began to reveal itself.
I felt a wave of concern wash over me. Had the Yang Qi Blood we just mixed in failed?
"Xiaomei, is it possible that something went wrong on our end?" After a while without any response, I noticed cracks beginning to form along the outer edge of the barrier.
"It shouldn't be. Let's wait a bit longer," Xiaomei replied, her own composure starting to waver.
Just then, I heard a creaking sound, and before I knew it, the barrier had shattered.
I opened my eyes wide in shock. What was happening?
Xiaomei stood up abruptly, her eyes wide as she exclaimed, "What’s going on? This shouldn’t be happening!"
"What do we do? Should we go in directly?" My heart raced at Xiaomei's words.
Xiaomei regained her calm and pulled me back to our original position. Just as she was about to speak, a faint wave of energy emanated from the barrier.
"This is bad; it's backlash," Xiaomei said in surprise.
I was momentarily stunned, still processing what Xiaomei had just said when suddenly, a deafening explosion erupted ahead of us, followed by anguished cries.
The shockwave from the explosion knocked us against a large rock behind us. Thankfully, I only felt a slight pain, but the members of the Ghost Gate Cult were not so fortunate.
Nearly half of them were injured by the blast, lying motionless on the ground, while the others sustained minor injuries.
"What is happening?" The Ghost Gate Sect Master’s face darkened as he surveyed the scene.
Those nearby trembled at his words, fear evident on their faces. "We don’t know! It seems like one of our people made a mistake and brought in an overwhelming amount of Yang Qi."
Upon hearing this, the Ghost Gate Sect Master’s fury erupted. He killed the speaker on the spot without hesitation.
I couldn't believe how ruthless the Ghost Gate Sect Master was; he even turned on his own people.
At that moment, I noticed that the barrier, which had originally developed cracks, had actually closed up again, returning to its original state. It seemed that the barrier of Paper Mache Street was not so easily breached. I let out a sigh of relief, but the next second, my heart sank again.
The Ghost Gate Sect Master was actually using dark power. I could see swirling clouds of black energy gathering before him, forming into the shape of a black hole.
"What is he trying to do?" I asked Xiaomei.
"He intends to use the power of the black hole to break open the barrier of Paper Mache Street," Xiaomei replied.
As Xiaomei and I spoke, the black hole in the Ghost Gate Sect Master's hand grew larger and larger. It seemed that the power of the black hole was quite strong, causing winds to whip around us.
"This is likely not good for us," I frowned, contemplating how to counteract the Ghost Gate Sect Master's actions when suddenly a loud bang interrupted my thoughts. I looked up to see that the barrier of Paper Mache Street had actually been breached.
I widened my eyes in shock. How could it happen so quickly?
"Oh no, the Ghost Gate Sect Master has forcibly opened it using his dark power. The people inside will also be harmed by his dark energy. I wonder if Princess has been hurt," Xiaomei said, her voice filled with deep concern.
"We should confront him directly; we can't wait any longer." The thought of Ruoxi being harmed by the Ghost Gate Sect Master's dark power sent my heart racing. Without thinking too much, I charged forward, but before I could reach those people, Xiaomei pulled me back.
"Why are you acting like a bull? You’re not using your head at all! Just now, I suddenly realized something—Princess's presence is not here."
"What do you mean?" I looked at Xiaomei in surprise.
Xiaomei's expression was serious as she said, "Yes, while we were focused on the Ghost Gate Cult, we didn't notice this detail."
As soon as she finished speaking, I immediately used my connection with Ruoxi to search for her location. Just as I was about to find her, Xiaomei interrupted me.
