"Hey, what are you all doing?" The Ghost Gate Sect Master approached us, his gaze sweeping back and forth over our group.
"Naturally, we are testing them. My lady said that these two might be human. Didn't you say you were looking for a few humans? Perhaps they are right in front of you," the man replied.
The Ghost Gate Sect Master looked at us, an unusual expression flickering in his eyes, which made my heart race even more.
"Haha, are you talking about the Yin Hall Master?" the Ghost Gate Sect Master laughed heartily.
The man seemed puzzled by the Ghost Gate Sect Master's laughter and asked, "What, you don't believe me?"
Suddenly, the Ghost Gate Sect Master stepped between me and Captain Wu, placing his hands on our shoulders. "It's not that I don't believe you; I just don't believe your lady. I remember this lady beside you was once human."
Upon hearing the Ghost Gate Sect Master's words, the man froze for a moment, surprised as he turned to look at A Yao. Our gazes all converged on A Yao.
"Is what he said true?" the man asked A Yao.
Under everyone's scrutiny, A Yao's face showed a hint of panic, but she quickly regained her composure and replied to the man, "Husband, do you believe them or me?"
After speaking, a look of grievance appeared on A Yao's face. The man immediately felt a pang of sympathy and pulled A Yao into his embrace. At that moment, I felt a sharp pain throughout my body as if someone had pricked me with a needle.
"Alright, let's leave it at that. Ghost Gate Sect Master, weren't you the one who asked us to come discuss important matters? Why haven't you invited us in yet? What does this mean?" The man shifted the topic.
The Ghost Gate Sect Master understood the man's intention and followed his lead. "Fine, let's go inside. The Celestial Officials won't arrive until three days from now. We can rest here for a few days since your Underworld is also in turmoil."
After hearing the Ghost Gate Sect Master's words, the man nodded and walked into the lair of the Ghost Gate Cult with us.
As we approached the main hall, the Ghost Gate Sect Master instructed Captain Wu and me to rest for a while, saying he had something to discuss with us later.
Once the Ghost Gate Sect Master left, Captain Wu immediately pulled me aside and asked, "Little brother, do you think the Ghost Gate Sect Master has figured out that we're impostors?"
I glanced around to ensure no one was watching before I replied, "Don't worry, he won't find out. If he had, we would have been dealt with on the spot. Just stay calm, alright?"
Captain Wu nodded, acknowledging my words.
At that moment, a woman walked toward us. "Oh, look who it is! The two Yin Hall Masters have finally returned."
We turned to see that the woman now had legs. Could it be the Heart Soup she drank earlier?
Noticing our gaze fixed on her legs, the woman smiled knowingly and said, "You guessed it right! It's thanks to the Heart Soup you gave me. This soup is incredible; not only has it increased the evil energy within me, but it also gave me legs. Ha ha!"
Captain Wu and I exchanged glances as if we had come to a realization. We then asked her, "What about the specific location of that Listening Pavilion you mentioned earlier?"
The woman's expression immediately changed. She covered our mouths and led us into a corner. Seeing her anxious demeanor made us wonder if something had happened recently.
She nodded and said, "A few days ago, it seems something happened to the Sect Master. There was a terrible scream coming from where he resides—Master's Cliff. It was so loud that everyone in the Yinmen Sect heard it. I've also heard that the Left and Right Protectors rushed over to heal him. And didn't you just see someone from the Underworld? I heard the Sect Master summoned them to eliminate someone—apparently, this person is the reincarnation of the King of the Earth."
Upon hearing her words, my eyes widened in shock.
"Also, for these next few days, you mustn't mention those three words we just spoke of. The Sect Master has already issued an order regarding this and has sealed off that place. Even if I were to take you there, you wouldn't be able to enter," she said seriously.
A sense of unease stirred within me. Could it be that the Ghost Gate Sect Master sensed something?
"Alright, you all go rest for now. I'll draw up a blueprint for you. Remember, if this works out, just think of the benefits for me," the woman said, giving me a suggestive look. Just as she was about to leave, I called out to her and pulled a bottle from my pocket, handing it to her.
The woman looked at me in confusion as she took the bottle and sniffed it. A few seconds later, her eyes lit up with excitement. "This is the Demon Pill!"
I nodded. This was given to me by the Ghost Gate Sect Master during the Feast of Demons. It was of no use to me, so I figured it would be better to give the Demon Pill to her; this way, I could win her over to work for us.
"You gave this to me?" The woman's expression grew even more surprised.
"Yes, this Demon Pill should be very useful for you," I replied.
She became excited and nodded vigorously. "Yes! But are you sure you don't want it? This is a great item; it can greatly enhance one's dark power."
"No need for me. Keep it; consider it our reward for your help," I said before heading back to our lodging with Captain Wu.
"Little brother, giving her the Demon Pill might raise her suspicions. What if she tells the Ghost Gate Sect Master?" Captain Wu's face showed concern.
I shook my head. "Don't worry; she probably won't tell anyone. After all, look how precious she thinks that item is—she'd want to keep it hidden. The Demon Pill is useless to us now, but giving it to her will win her loyalty. Also, I think we need to check out that Listening Pavilion."
Captain Wu nodded at my words, and after chatting a bit more, we finally settled down to rest.
In the deep of night, sudden noises came from outside the door, jolting me awake. I immediately roused Captain Wu.
A shadow was cast on the door, instantly dispelling our drowsiness. Could it be that the Ghost Gate Sect Master had discovered our identities and sent someone to assassinate us?
Captain Wu and I cautiously approached the door. Just as the figure drew closer, we swung the door open and launched an attack on the person outside, only to find ourselves facing the Ghost Gate Sect Master.
"Why are you two reacting so dramatically?" the Ghost Gate Sect Master asked, looking at us with curiosity.
I felt a strange sensation rising within me, while Captain Wu lowered his head. The Ghost Gate Sect Master glanced at us and said, "You two follow me. I need to take you somewhere."
We followed the Ghost Gate Sect Master out of our residence and arrived at a cliff where a luxurious mansion stood. If I guessed correctly, this was the Ghost Gate Sect Master's home.
"What is this place?" Captain Wu inquired.
"My residence. The reason I brought you here is that there’s something I need you to do," the Ghost Gate Sect Master turned to face us.
"What is it?"
The Ghost Gate Sect Master continued, "During the Feast of Demons, you both saw the people from the sky and the Underworld, right?"
I was taken aback for a moment. Was the Ghost Gate Sect Master about to reveal a secret? Excitement surged within me.
I nodded at the Ghost Gate Sect Master, indicating that I had indeed seen them.
