I rolled my eyes, filled with disdain. "Naturally, you have a deep-seated grudge against the Ghost Gate Cult; otherwise, they wouldn't mobilize so many people to attack the Ghost Order." 0

A deep-seated grudge. 0

I paused for a moment, my mind suddenly in chaos. 0

Qiman let out a cold laugh, ignoring me as she walked down and stared at me with icy eyes. 0

Within seconds, I felt the water temperature slowly rising. Suddenly, I snapped back to reality—Qiman intended to boil me alive! 0

I quickly yanked my hands free from the ropes and hurled them at Qiman. In an instant, I saw sparks fly before my eyes, igniting on Qiman's face. 0

A painful female voice pierced my ears as Qiman's face was engulfed in flames. Soon after, I noticed clouds of white smoke rising from her body, enveloping her while the fire extinguished. 0

A chill ran down my spine; I had a bad feeling. Could it be that Qiman had extinguished the flames? 0

To my shock, in just a second, the skin on Qiman's body vanished, revealing a set of animated bones instead. 0

I saw her large eyeball glaring at me with a sinister intensity. I couldn't help but shiver; the fear within me deepened. 0

"Wang Niu, it seems you're tired of living. Very well, I'll let you experience a fate worse than death," Qiman threatened darkly. 0

In an instant, countless fine needles appeared before me. With a swift motion from Qiman, they shot toward me and Captain Wu. 0

My mind went blank as terror consumed my entire being. If these needles struck us, Captain Wu and I might meet our end. 0

But unexpectedly, just as the needles were about to pierce me, I felt a surge of mysterious power rising within me. It counterattacked those needles and sent them hurtling back toward Qiman. 0

Qiman's eyes widened in surprise, filled with disbelief as she never expected those fine needles to strike her body. 0

Another chilling scream echoed as the black mist surrounding Qiman slowly enveloped her. Gradually, she transformed into a wisp of white smoke and vanished, taking the other bones with her. 0

I let out a long sigh of relief; I had just narrowly escaped becoming a ghost. However, what was that mysterious power within me? 0

Before I could ponder further, the scalding water around me made me frown tightly. I glanced at Captain Wu beside me, who showed no reaction at all. 0

I exerted all my strength to try and free myself from the ropes binding me. Suddenly, I felt a powerful force surge from my abdomen, pushing upward with great intensity. In mere seconds, the ropes that bound me were torn apart. Without considering how it happened, survival was my priority. 0

I immediately stood up and freed Captain Wu. After we distanced ourselves from the large vat, it exploded. 0

I took a deep breath; thankfully, Captain Wu and I had moved quickly. After catching my breath and allowing my strength to return, I carried Captain Wu down the mountain and back to our lodging, where A Yao and Officer Yuan were also present. 0

"Wang Niu, what happened to you?" A Yao exclaimed in shock upon seeing my drenched state; after all, I looked quite disheveled. 0

I cleared my throat a few times, trying to appear relaxed and unbothered as I explained to A Yao that everything was fine. 0

But A Yao wouldn't believe it; she burst into tears and said, "Wang Niu, can't we just forget about all this?" 0

Her words struck a chord of defeat within me. Many things wouldn't simply stop because we wished them to—just like what Qiman had mentioned about the Ghost Gate Cult. 0

After Qiman's incident, I feared there would be more ghosts and even monsters seeking to harm me. What I needed to do now was grow stronger quickly so that I could protect those around me. 0

After handing Captain Wu over to Officer Yuan, I took A Yao aside and earnestly spoke to her about various matters, assuring her not to worry. Yet this only made A Yao more anxious. 0

I held A Yao in my arms, hoping to give her some strength. After a while, she quieted down, and her emotions began to settle. 0

In the following days, we didn't go anywhere; we stayed at our place because Captain Wu's condition was not optimistic. It had been a week since I rescued Captain Wu, and there was still no sign of improvement. 0

Officer Yuan suggested taking him to the hospital, but I refused. Captain Wu was not sick; he had lost his Vital Spirit. 0

I could tell this from Captain Wu's appearance. I had heard Uncle Tiger mention it before, but I hadn’t told anyone. 0

Although I had learned some soul-calling techniques from Uncle Tiger, it was only superficial knowledge. 0

Attempting to call a soul without proficiency would not only put me in danger but also harm Captain Wu. 0

The only solution was to wait for Uncle Tiger to return. 0

In anxious anticipation, Uncle Tiger came back the next day. 0

I immediately informed him about Captain Wu's situation. Uncle Tiger frowned and instructed me to take Captain Wu out into the blazing sun so he could absorb more Yang Qi. This way, the Vital Spirit could be drawn back through the Yang Qi, as the Vital Spirit would remember the original essence of its body. Once the essence was sufficient, the Vital Spirit would return on its own. 0

With Uncle Tiger's help, I brought Captain Wu outside and placed him under the scorching sun. 0

I asked Uncle Tiger how many days it would take for Captain Wu to wake up. It had already been nearly two weeks. Uncle Tiger glanced at Captain Wu and sighed, saying it depended on Captain Wu's fate. 0

Uncle Tiger's words made my heart grow heavy. 0

And that wasn’t the only thing weighing on my mind. 0

Before leaving, Uncle Tiger had gone away because of matters concerning the Celestial Rabbit Spirits. Now that he was back, he naturally knew about those issues as well. 0

"Uncle Tiger said that those Rabbit Spirits are indeed from the celestial realm, and what they do is harmful, which is also not permitted by the celestial beings. However, they have bribed the Celestial Official, and the Heavenly Palace has turned a blind eye to them." 0

Upon hearing this, I became even more troubled. Wasn't this situation just taking advantage of me and Captain Wu? I asked Uncle Tiger if there was any way to resolve this. 0

Uncle Tiger thought for a moment and replied, "Unless we can communicate with the Heavenly Supervisor and inform them of everything, allowing the Heavenly Supervisor to see clearly, then it might be possible to capture all the Rabbit Spirits at once." 0

I was taken aback and said, "But we are just mortals. How can we deal with someone from the heavens?" 0

Uncle Tiger stroked his beard and said, "Actually, it is possible, but it will be quite difficult." 0

I perked up and eagerly asked Uncle Tiger what the method was, but to my surprise, he stopped talking and walked into the room. 0

I could only sulk while waiting for Captain Wu. A few days passed, and Captain Wu still showed no signs of waking up. Then a new situation arose. 0

Officer Yuan suddenly rushed over in a panic and told me that something big had happened. 0

I immediately asked Officer Yuan what was wrong. 0

Officer Yuan informed me that the Big Boss was on the verge of death. If the Big Boss died, the Investment Plan for the City would fall through, and at that point, Captain Wu would be dismissed. 0

I frowned; Captain Wu hadn't even woken up yet. If he were dismissed just like that, it would be quite unfair. I asked Officer Yuan if I could temporarily take over for Captain Wu. 0

Officer Yuan hesitated and said I should go with her to the station, where the leaders would make a decision. 0

I agreed and followed Officer Yuan to the police station. 0

When we arrived, the station was already filled with many officers and higher-ups. As soon as I entered, everyone's gaze turned toward me. I immediately felt a wave of pressure and could only brace myself for what was to come. 0

Because I had been following Captain Wu for some time, all the officers present recognized me and naturally did not harbor any doubts about my presence. However, the leaders were quite skeptical of my abilities and did not believe in me at all. Not only that, but they also looked at me with cold disdain. 0

To be honest, I was very angry. If it weren't for Captain Wu, who would tolerate such treatment? 0

I addressed the leaders directly, stating that only I could handle the situation regarding Big Boss, as it was an unusual matter. 0

As soon as I said this, everyone in the room erupted, especially the leaders. 0

"What do you mean?" An older officer sitting in the middle stood up, looking at me with a serious expression. 0

I proceeded to share what I had witnessed at Big Boss's residence. After hearing my account, there was a moment of silence among them, while the older officer regarded me with a complex expression. 0

I wasn't worried that they wouldn't believe me; otherwise, there wouldn't be a special case like Captain Wu's involvement. 0

After a while, the older officer instructed everyone to leave, leaving just me behind. 0

He introduced himself as Director Huang and asked me to elaborate on the specifics regarding Big Boss. 0

After some casual conversation, Director Huang began to trust me somewhat, but he still retained some skepticism. This made me uncomfortable; after all, one should trust those they employ rather than suspect them. 0
