However, even when the noodles splattered across their faces, none of them dared to move, allowing the broth and food to wash over them. At that moment, a man seated in the Vice Seat stood up and clasped his fists, saying, "Master, please calm your anger. I assure you that I will prevent Huaxia from obtaining any information. I am well aware of Virgin's habits; he will not write anything explicitly, only using coded language. I have already received news that Jiang Xing from the Metaphysics Society has obtained the notes but cannot decipher them. They are preparing to hand them over to Huaxia's research experts. I have dispatched our people to steal the notes!"
As his words fell, the raging wind dissipated, leaving only the Chairman and the Vice Seat with clean spaces in the chaotic hall. The man in the Vice Seat discreetly wiped the sweat from his palms.
"It better be so. I provide you with technology, capital, and everything else. I hope you do not disappoint me. What is the status of what I requested?" came a hoarse, neutral voice.
"Yes, Master!" The man in the Vice Seat turned to the dozen or so seated individuals and commanded, "Why haven't you taken out your things yet?"
The group below had already retrieved storage boxes from under the table. After entering their passwords to unlock them, each person took out a notebook and a vial of potion with a golden ring at its base.
"Master, this is the Twelve Ancient Biological Potions developed by the Constellation team. Virgin's potion has been injected into him and is currently being decomposed and refined in the laboratory. I believe we will soon obtain the twelfth potion!" said the man in the Vice Seat.
"Mm!" A sound that could be considered a response came forth, followed by a chilling breeze as eleven sets of documents and potions flew toward the figure in the shadows. The notebooks and potions vanished into darkness as if they had sunk into an abyss.
Before long, the hoarse voice echoed again: "Hmm! Not bad. Once the final potion is ready, I expect to see all that you promised me appear together!" Without waiting for a response from the man in the Vice Seat, the Chairman stood up and walked out of the banquet hall under a veil of darkness. As he turned around, his figure disappeared within the ancient castle.
Feeling the dark presence lift, everyone in the banquet hall let out a collective sigh of relief. The man in the Vice Seat slumped into his chair like a deflated balloon, while those below had already collapsed one by one. The momentum they had just managed to maintain crumbled instantly after the mysterious figure's departure.
"Bang!" A loud thud echoed as someone slammed their hand on the table. Everyone turned to look at a man seated in the fifth chair on the right side. He appeared to be of Eastern descent with yellow skin but possessed striking sapphire blue eyes typical of Caucasians. He seemed to be between thirty and forty years old and looked particularly disheveled among them; his white noble robe with blue trim was now drenched.
The object he slammed on the table was a deep soup bowl measuring three inches deep and ten inches wide. From the vegetable leaves still stuck in his hair, it was clear that this bowl had been placed over his head earlier. With the mysterious figure present, he had dared not move; now that they were gone, he could no longer contain his anger. The heat of the soup was not an issue for him; it was more about humiliation and frustration!
"Damn it! Star Master! Are you really going to let us brothers endure this humiliation?" With forceful determination, he pressed down on the metal bowl until it left an imprint before embedding itself deeply into the table.
"Aquarius! Don't be so agitated; do you really think we can afford to confront him? The timing isn't right yet!" said a very young man seated opposite him, dressed in a gold-and-white robe with a kingfisher perched on his shoulder.
"The timing isn't right? I'm Capricorn! Aren't you angry? This is just a soup bowl; you have meat sauce on your head! Look at yourself; I'm truly impressed!" After venting his frustration, Aquarius sat back down.
"What can we do? If we lack strength, we must heed their words!" Capricorn replied while wiping off some meat sauce from his head.
"You," Aquarius felt a surge of anger after hearing Capricorn's words, but ultimately swallowed the rest of what he wanted to say.
Looking at the miserable state of the eleven people below, the man in the Vice Seat stood up and said, "Everyone has worked hard. Now that we have completed the first phase of our agreement with him, what comes next requires our sacrifices. From now on, the Zodiac will disband. Each member under Zodiac will enter their respective fields according to the original plan. I hope to see results within a year, and within two years, I expect us to reach our anticipated goals!"
"Star Master! Are we really going to disband the Zodiac? I’m a bit reluctant!" A man sitting next to the Vice Seat shook his head.
"Archer! I believe you understand the importance of this plan. Once we complete it, do you think we will still need to engage in mercenary work in the future? Some things we are destined to abandon! What we give up today will be repaid a hundredfold, a thousandfold, or even countless times after the plan succeeds," Star Master replied.
"Understood!" The crowd dispersed. In the spacious yet chaotic banquet hall, only Star Master remained seated in the Vice Seat. Watching everyone leave, he stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. He gazed at the eleven individuals dispersing and pondered for a long time. After a deep sigh, he said, "Wait for it; the new era belongs to us, Perfect World. These pups, Bat! They are still being toyed with by Master and the gods! It’s all just a thing of the past. Once Gene Serum is fully deployed across Earth, you will merely be fools with power that you cannot use. These people are truly foolish; they don’t even realize that their Star Master has been replaced!"
If anyone were to hear these words from Star Master now, they would surely be shocked. Not a single person in Zodiac had noticed that the ruler of the Zodiac was no longer that person from years ago. Such words could overturn Zodiac's positioning. Originally, all those who were Star Masters thought that Zodiac was merely collaborating with Perfect World for mutual benefit; however, what they did not know was that several years ago, Zodiac Master had already been replaced by someone from Perfect World. As for the original Star Master—ha! He had long since returned to dust!
After a moment of vague inspiration, the Star Master who had been standing by the window transformed into a person only about five feet six inches tall. The oversized clothing no longer suited him. However, glancing at his watch made him frown as he muttered, "Why has he returned? And why is he calling us for a meeting? Could it be that this order from Master is all for him? No wonder he would abandon such a perfect trump card hidden within Metaphysics Society; it turns out he has come back!"
With that thought, he pressed a button on his watch and said, "Abandon everything here; Master has given orders—plan initiated!" After speaking, he turned and left the ancient castle. No one knew that at this moment, the internationally renowned Zodiac vanished as if evaporated, replaced by countless skilled men and women diving into various fields.
Before this news could spread, actions targeting Virgo Palace Master’s notes had already begun on Huaxia's side. Seeing the red dot disappear from his watch made Zhou's heart tighten; Jiang Xing had taken his medication!
Checking the time, there were only minutes left until Military personnel arrived. Zhou had already neglected the full effect of his medication. He reached out and opened the door to find Jiang Xing slumped over on the table with spilled tea around him. Noticing the effects of the medication taking hold, Zhou quickly approached a hidden compartment and took out a pair of gloves as thin as cicada wings. After putting them on, he tapped on the compartment until a display screen appeared along with two fingerprint locks.
Zhou pressed his right thumb down; the screen displayed: Cao Man fingerprint confirmed!
Then he pressed his left finger down; it read: Li Xiangjun fingerprint confirmed!
Finally, Zhou extended his left index finger and touched the center of the screen; it displayed: Jiang Xing fingerprint confirmed!
After three confirmations, there was a click as the mechanism unlocked. Several documents and a notebook appeared before Zhou. Seeing the notebook made him breathe a sigh of relief as he reached for it without realizing someone behind him had already stood up!
“Thunder Finger - Demon Subjugation!” Purple Lightning shot out from behind Zhou, and as his fingers reached for the notebook, he felt a sense of foreboding. However, even though he braced himself to withstand the attack, Zhou managed to grasp the notebook from the hidden compartment.
As the crackling lightning surged into him, Zhou collapsed to the ground. Yet, he was no ordinary person; after enduring the blow, aside from his hair standing on end, he seemed to suffer no significant negative effects.
Seeing Zhou unaffected, Jiang Xing was taken aback. He had not expected a mere mortal like Zhou to withstand his attack and even take the notebook. This mistake cost him the upper hand, and with Zhou having secured the notebook, it was clear that Zhou was not an ordinary individual.
“Jiang Xing, didn’t you drink your tea?” Zhou stared at Jiang Xing.
“I was about to, but I received an urgent intrusion message from the kitchen. Given that, do you think I could still drink?” Jiang Xing replied.
“Signal? Wasn’t Master Chef knocked out by me?” Zhou asked in confusion.
“Unfortunately, you’re too young or perhaps overly confident. Master Chef is quite overweight; his neck’s pressure points are naturally thicker than those of an average person. You were afraid of injuring him and didn’t go all out. Because of that, Master Chef didn’t completely lose consciousness and woke up in pain to trigger the alarm. But Zhou, I never thought you would betray the Metaphysics Society. Have I wronged you in any way over the years?” Jiang Xing said, deeply saddened. Despite Zhou lacking cultivation talent, Jiang Xing had seen potential in him and had nurtured him for years, even planning to make him a key strategist for the next generation President.
However, now they stood on opposing sides, and Jiang Xing couldn’t comprehend it. At that moment, Zhou glanced out of the building’s window and saw military vehicles arriving below. With Jiang Xing above and the military below, escape was impossible. Resolutely, Zhou extended his right hand, summoning a ball of flames into his palm.
“Ability?” Jiang Xing exclaimed in shock.
While Jiang Xing was stunned by his long-overlooked discovery of Zhou’s abilities, Zhou hurled the flames onto the notebook, instantly engulfing it in a blaze.
