Living Funeral
I looked at the woman in red and asked, "Where are we going?"
The woman in red seemed a bit anxious and replied, "Chen Lang, it doesn't matter where we go, but we can't stay here."
I turned to glance at the red coffin, feeling a sense of unease creeping in.
The woman in red continued, "Inside is a Transmutation Child. This kind of corpse is very dangerous, Chen Lang. You cannot get involved." She then took my hand, preparing to pull me away.
At that moment, Gao Ling called out to me, "Fei, what are you doing? Is that coffin going to be opened or not?"
The woman in red shook her head at me.
Her beautiful face was now filled with urgency. After a pause, I said, "Let's not open it for now. We'll find a suitable replacement coffin first."
What Gao Ling had said earlier about opening the coffin leading to a corpse scam and that the Transmutation Child would bite everyone here to death had indeed left a psychological shadow on everyone present. So when I made this suggestion, no one opposed it.
Seeing my decision, the woman in red finally sighed in relief.
She looked at me with tender eyes, as if they held a spring of water, making my heart race.
Gao Ling walked over and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Fei, are you out of your mind?"
Snapping back to reality, I told Gao Ling not to be ridiculous. Although I could see the woman in red, he and the others could not. The woman in red came closer and linked her arm with mine, just like an ordinary couple going out for a stroll.
Gao Ling then turned to Zhao Fan and said, "That coffin is your responsibility. We'll come back tomorrow night. By the way, Fei and I are leaving now; we still need to help Brother Fan and the others re-bury this red coffin."
A guy with yellow hair spoke up aggressively, "What attitude do you have towards Brother Fan?"
Gao Ling ignored him completely, and Zhao Fan silenced the guy.
Before long, Gao Ling and I left the place. The woman in red said to me, "Chen Lang, do you know? The Transmutation Child inside that coffin is different from an ordinary Transmutation Child."
At that moment, Gao Ling drove ahead, and I asked the woman in red, "Why are things different now?"
The woman in red swayed as she walked, her tall figure brushing against my arm, making me feel a bit restless inside.
In a playful tone, she said to me, "Chen Lang, just listen to me. Anyone could harm you, but I won't."
Suddenly, she released my hand and slowly walked to face me. Looking into my eyes, she declared, "Chen Lang, because I love you, I will never harm you." As soon as she finished speaking, a blush crept onto her face, and she quickly turned away shyly.
I found myself lost in thought, feeling a warmth in my heart. At that moment, I wished that the woman in red were human.
Just then, the sound of honking broke through my reverie. Gao Ling called out to me from the car, "Fei, get in."
I opened the car door; the woman in red entered first, and I followed her inside. She rested her head on my shoulder, and we sat in silence.
The Taoist priest had told us that our ghostly marriage could not be undone. We shared a past that was 'too precious to reveal,' though I didn't know what it was. Still, I felt that this woman in red truly wouldn't harm me.
Gao Ling handed me a cigarette and said, "Fei, the Transmutation Child is still a bit eerie. How about we skip it tomorrow night?"
I took a deep breath. If we didn't go and something happened tomorrow night, Zhao Fan and his group could be in trouble. Besides, Boss Huang might not be someone to underestimate; I felt he was serious when he mentioned throwing someone into the river to feed the fish.
Thinking this over, I replied to Gao Ling, "We should go tomorrow night."
Gao Ling paused for a few seconds before saying, "Alright! After all, we can make a lot of money."
But the woman in red pinched me and asked, "Chen Lang, do you really want to go?"
I responded to her, "We have to go. If something happens tomorrow and we don't show up, we'll end up suffering too. Sometimes human hearts are scarier than ghosts."
Gao Ling thought I was talking about him and said, "Fei, you're right. If we don't go, Zhao Fan won't let me off easily."
While Gao Ling was worried about Zhao Fan, my thoughts were on Boss Huang.
Regardless of everything else, we had to go tomorrow night. It seemed the woman in red agreed with my reasoning because she said to me that she would go with Chen Lang tomorrow night. Oh right, Chen Lang, remember to bring the master along.
His master must be a Taoist.
The Taoist should be nearby, just not showing himself. Gao Ling stepped on the gas and drove straight home.
After taking a shower, I lay down on the bed, and the woman in red quickly joined me. I said to her, "We haven't gotten married yet; is it appropriate for us to sleep together?"
The woman in red looked at me and replied, "Anyway, my whole being belongs to you. Serving you in bed is my duty unless you no longer like me."
I chose not to respond to that and closed my eyes, preparing to sleep. However, just as I shut my eyes, I felt a cool hand suddenly grasp an important part of me, rubbing up and down... My body twitched involuntarily.
"What are you doing?" I asked, my tone slightly more intense.
The woman in red immediately looked a bit aggrieved and said, "I'm sorry, Chen Lang. Did I hurt you? I saw this on TV; this way, you'll feel better..." Her voice grew weaker.
I thought about what kind of ridiculous shows the woman in red had been watching.
Feeling somewhat helpless, I told her that we should just sleep well and not play around.
"Okay," she replied.
And so we endured until dawn; by then, the woman in red had vanished.
When I got out of bed, it was already ten in the morning. As I stepped out of my room, Gao Ling called out to me. I was curious why Gao Ling was up so early.
Gao Ling greeted me and then said, "Hey, something happened over there."
I immediately reacted and hurriedly asked what had happened.
Gao Ling replied that someone died last night! I quickly asked who it was. Gao Ling said it was that arrogant blonde guy from last night; now Zhao Fan wants us to go over and take a look. Are we going?
"Of course we're going!" I said.
After a quick tidy-up with Gao Ling, we set off directly to Zhao Fan's previous Black Workshop.
When I arrived, it was just noon. Entering the Black Workshop, I found a rigid corpse lying on a straw mat. I paused for a moment to take a look and then asked, "When did this person die?"
Zhao Fan, with a dark expression, replied, "It was discovered this morning. Could it be that you were harmed by the Transmutation Child?"
I thought it was possible. They had been in contact with the coffin last night. Zhao Fan continued, saying that the last person to fill the grave was Huang Mao, and it was likely that Huang Mao had been killed by the child of Boss Huang at that time.
Damn, Huang Mao's death was indeed quite tragic!
His pupils were dilated, and the skin on his face was completely torn apart, marked with fingerprints that had shredded his skin. There were two bloody holes in his neck, likely made by the Transmutation Child's nails.
Moreover, his face was clearly scratched up...
Suddenly, I recalled Zhao Fan's words about the nails and hair that had grown for five years in the coffin. What kind of state would this corpse be in? Although it was broad daylight, looking at this body still sent chills down my spine!
I could still smell a faint metallic scent of blood; livor mortis had already set in.
Wanting to let him rest peacefully, I tried to close his eyes. However, after three attempts, they wouldn't stay shut. Something felt off! Just as I was pondering this, in the next moment, the corpse that had been lying flat suddenly sat up.
And immediately reached out to grab my neck.
I heard him mumbling about wanting to strangle me... strangle me... He shook me vigorously, and that suffocating feeling hit me instantly. Everyone around was stunned in shock; even a couple of people had already started to run outside.
Damn it! Luckily, Gao Ling reacted quickly and grabbed a stool to smash it over Huang Mao's head, knocking him down immediately.
Taking advantage of the moment, I hurriedly got up. Huang Mao was still struggling; I quickly used the hand signals taught to me by the Taoist priest to subdue him.
After a few more struggles, Huang Mao finally stopped moving. I gasped for breath; I had truly been scared out of my wits. It felt like I had just walked through Yama's Hall.
Good grief! To think it was broad daylight! The corpse actually came back to life! How terrifying must this Transmutation Child be!
To think that someone who died could resurrect even under such strong Yang Qi at noon...
I stood up from the ground and said to Zhao Fan, "We should just cremate this body!" Doubts began to creep into my mind. Was this Transmutation Child really that monstrous?
I felt my breath quicken.
"Gao Ling" asked me, "Are you okay?"
I looked up and replied that I was fine.
"Damn it, who would have thought that the big white guy would fake his death!" "Gao Ling" exclaimed.
I told "Gao Ling" to drop the subject. "Zhao Fan" had instructed two people to carry the body away. I called out to "Zhao Fan," asking if everything was ready for the coffin.
"Not yet," "Zhao Fan" replied. I urged him, "Hurry up and get it ready. Let's head over there soon. I have a bad feeling about this. If we don't handle it properly, more people will die. That yellow-haired guy is a prime example."
"Zhao Fan" seemed genuinely frightened and said, "Okay, I'll listen to you. I'll go prepare right now."
I washed my hands with "Glutinous Rice Water." By evening, we went straight to the cemetery. However, upon arriving, we found someone kneeling in front of the grave, her hands moving incessantly. From behind, it looked as if she was digging the grave with her bare hands...
