Chapter 8: Exchange of Resources
Although Su Fang felt numb from the soul-rending experience, she was not entirely devoid of sensation. After the conclusion of the Year Beast Secret Realm, her body collapsed to the ground, exuding an aura that warned others to keep their distance, yet appearing weak and helpless.
In light of this, Yan felt quite helpless himself. He could only summon Big Head and carry her into the Ghost Group Ring before swiftly departing from the Teleportation Array.
"Who exactly is this Yan? I've never heard of him before."
"Perhaps he's some deeply hidden Old Ghost!"
"No, based on the rankings from the Eighteen Layers of Hell, he’s likely a newcomer. We could ask the guards at the Teleportation Array."
"Classified information," the guard who had previously intercepted Yan replied coldly, though his gaze couldn't help but drift toward the direction Yan had left.
He hadn’t paid much attention initially, but over these three hours, memories of Yan's arrival a few months ago became increasingly vivid.
He distinctly remembered that when Yan emerged, he was only around level forty-five, a Junior Ghost Emperor at best. To think that in just a few months, he had managed to climb to the tenth position! Although he still had a significant gap compared to the strongest in the Nine Major Regions, the Nine Great Powers were nearly insurmountable.
Yet now, Yan was already beneath them; perhaps it wouldn’t be long before he surpassed them as well.
The guard shook his head, feeling as if he were indulging in fanciful thoughts while harboring a flicker of anticipation.
To be honest, Lian Yun had considered entering the top one hundred. After Su Fang's rampage, even reaching fifty wouldn't be difficult. However, he never imagined he would actually make it to tenth place.
The moment he emerged and saw his ranking on the Ranking List, Yan was taken aback. He immediately distanced himself from the surrounding Spirits and moved to the edge of the square. Unable to resist glancing back for confirmation of his identity, he still found it hard to believe.
However, Yan didn’t linger on it and went straight to claim his reward.
As the ninth place in all of Yin City, the rewards were quite generous: a grand Mansion, one hundred thousand Supreme Soul Coins, and a fifteen percent increase in mission rewards.
In truth, the rankings in Yin-Yang City didn’t offer many rewards; they mostly consisted of mission reward increases since most rewards were granted during battles against Year Beasts.
In contrast, Yin City not only provided treasure chests but also ranking rewards, making its treatment slightly better than that of Yin-Yang City.
After claiming his rewards, Lian Yun headed directly to his residence and renamed it to Imperial Residence.
It seemed a bit arrogant, but the mansion could establish a Teleportation Array. However, each time one wanted to teleport to the central Teleportation Array, they might need to show their identity, which was quite troublesome and inconvenient. Therefore, most people had to enter through the front gate.
Secondly, in Yin City, being humble and low-key represented weakness; even if you had strength, you would still be looked down upon. The Tenth Strongest used the name of the Imperial Residence, which was strong enough without being overly ostentatious.
Once inside the mansion, Yan immediately summoned all the Ghost Slaves. This Imperial Residence had dozens of rooms and several courtyards, providing ample space for the Ghost Slaves to reside. He handed nearly sixty thousand Supreme Treasure Boxes and hundreds of millions of lower-grade treasure boxes to Yang Zai Xing for distribution and opening. Yan then made a trip to the Trading Hall to have Chen Er Gou gather as many Supreme Soul Coins as possible.
This was because after the Year Beast Secret Realm, many Demon Emperors seeking to enhance their abilities and avoid conflicts would exchange Supreme Soul Coins for High-Grade Soul Currency. A trading frenzy was expected in the market.
However, Lian Yun did not specify any particular requirements; everything depended on Chen Er Gou's discretion. Chen Er Gou exuded an aura reminiscent of the Zangfeng Sword, which greatly pleased Lian Yun.
Afterward, Lian Yun purchased a batch of one hundred thousand Mental Potions in the market, spending only around three hundred thousand High-Grade Soul Currency.
This was partly due to the fact that before the Year Beast Secret Realm, many Ghost Kings and Demon Emperors had collected a large number of Mental Potions, thus increasing their value.
After buying the Mental Potions, they headed toward the central Teleportation Array.
Before arriving, Lian Yun waved his hand and tossed out a Contract Paper. The contents stated that aside from the natives, no transactions would be made with outsiders. No items from Yin City would be placed on the ground for outsiders to take, nor would any characteristics of Yin City be disclosed to outsiders. There were multiple clauses like this.
Essentially, it meant that once outside, one could not interact with outsiders. Nothing on their person could flow into external hands.
The guard immediately recognized Yan and respectfully accepted the paper. He then carefully read its contents and confirmed there were no errors before respectfully saying, "My lord, please."
At this moment, he did not need to know whether Yan had hidden his strength upon arrival or had skyrocketed in power over several months; he only needed to know that Yan was currently the Tenth Strongest in Yin City.
Thus, after Yan presented a contract that met sufficient release conditions, he was immediately granted passage.
In this way, Yan teleported to the imperial city and subsequently received his true title of Marquis at the Imperial Residence known as Cloud Emperor's Mansion.
Cloud Emperor's Mansion was more than ten times larger than Yin City's Imperial Residence; it had dozens of courtyards and over a thousand rooms. However, Yan did not pay attention to these details. Instead, he placed ten thousand Supreme Soul Coins and one hundred thousand Mental Potions in an empty courtyard space and sat down to absorb High-Grade Soul Currency.
Three days later, when he awoke, he picked up a spatial ring beside him and returned to Yin City.
Initially, Lian Yun planned to use a Five Elements Transport Talisman for exchanging items between the two cities. However, for some unknown reason, the five ghosts could not enter Yin City; thus Lian Yun had no choice but to use this method for material exchange.
To avoid leaving any traces, Lian Yun's main body did not come to the imperial city but instead went to Xianjian Sect's Sword Tower to cultivate Sword Intent.
Clone Swallow received the substance from its original body and then rose to return to Yin City.
Originally, Yan did not mind revealing his identity, but the guard, considering the comprehensive contract Yan had before leaving, allowed him to pass without hesitation. The fact that he could return indicated that he had not violated any terms of the contract, and out of respect for a strong individual, the guard let him go.
As a result, Yan's previously stern expression softened slightly.
Upon returning to the Imperial Residence, he first distributed some White Spirit Coins and Diamond Spirit Coins to the Ghost Slaves, and then began to contemplate how to meet with Chiyou and Ghost Daozi.
After much thought, he realized that he had no power or influence. Even though he ranked tenth in the Annual Conference Secret Realm, he actually had no right to meet either of them, nor did he dare to easily step into their territory.
However, meeting them was not too urgent, so Yan decided not to dwell on it for now. He then began to enter seclusion, absorbing both Spirit Coins and Soul Currency.
Yet, within a couple of days, Chen Er Gou came by with news that in the Mission Hall, The Nine Strongest had issued a task to meet with Yan. This instantly sparked Yan's interest.
After pondering for a moment, he instructed Chen Er Gou to set up a task: "Yan, host Chiyou and Ghost Daozi in Room One at the Demon Cry Tower."
He also spent a considerable amount of money renting Room One at the Demon Cry Tower, costing him a hundred Supreme Soul Coins, which made him feel a bit pained.
