Chapter 1: The Remarkably Insightful General
Whether ordinary, elite, or BSS, the appearance of the Year Beast is almost the same; it’s just a matter of size.
The ordinary ones stand about one and a half meters tall, which is quite large for humans, while the elite ones reach two meters, towering over people. However, there isn’t as significant a difference as with the Year Beast BSS.
After Lian Yun and Yang Yanzhao encountered an Elite Year Beast, they launched a full-scale attack and took it down in just a few strikes.
Although the Year Beast possesses considerable strength, its attacks are quite singular; it simply charges forward, trying to push people away.
With that in mind, Lian Yun had no reservations and attacked with all his might. He didn’t separate his efforts from Yang Yanzhao’s too distinctly; whoever landed the killing blow was fine with him, as long as they maintained a certain pace.
In the entire square, spanning three to five hundred meters, there were about a thousand Ordinary Year Beasts and only fifty elites. Although all were quite large, they were relatively dispersed. To save time, Lian Yun and Yang Yanzhao decided to eliminate the Ordinary Year Beasts along their path.
After nearly circling around and returning to the general's side, they forcefully killed the general's Year Beast. Then, with the overall refresh of the Year Beasts, Lian Yun and Yang Yanzhao pressed on without pause.
Lian Yun had Yang Yanzhao follow him; this not only increased his own kill count but also ensured that the general’s attack effectiveness remained high, preventing them from falling too far behind in rankings and making it difficult to catch up later.
What troubled Lian Yun somewhat was that within the secret realm, he couldn’t see the Ranking List.
He had no idea what his ranking was and thus lacked a reference point to determine how to secure a top ten spot for the general.
On this matter, Lian Yun couldn’t help but complain about the wager made by the Insect Emperor and the general. If it weren’t for that bet, he wouldn’t have to think so much.
However, things had already unfolded, and the bet was set; Lian Yun could only do his best. Yet before long, he found himself no longer dwelling on it.
He was paying close attention to the battle of the Insect Emperor.
Distracted, he focused entirely on defeating the Year Beast while simultaneously concentrating on the Insect Emperor's attacks. He explored and grasped his techniques, the frequency of his vibrations, and the intensity of his strikes.
On the side of the General and Yang Zai Xing, there was a change after the Ordinary Year Beast respawned.
At first, Yang Zai Xing had taught the General some movement techniques step by step, sharing key points with her. Then, without hesitation, she attacked the Ordinary Year Beast, allowing the General to observe and comprehend.
The General also attacked the Year Beast, constantly mimicking and adjusting her movements.
As a result, both Lian Yun and the General maintained their kill rate against the Year Beast without much slowdown.
Moreover, as time passed, their speed increased beyond normal conditions and continued to accelerate. This was due to the General's unexpected progress; describing it as miraculous would not be an exaggeration.
It took nearly twenty minutes to defeat a wave of Year Beasts. After just nine waves, or about three hours, it seemed as if the General had grasped the essence of it all, and her kill rate skyrocketed.
Although her attack speed was not as high as Lian Yun's, she occasionally achieved one-hit kills. It was clear that given more time and a deeper understanding of marksmanship, her success rate for one-hit kills would continue to rise.
Such progress even made the Insect Emperor, who was wholeheartedly beating down on the Year Beast BSS, pause for a moment to take notice.
However, this alone merely indicated that the General was indeed very suited for spear techniques. What followed was beyond the expectations of Lian Yun, Yang Zai Xing, and even the Insect Emperor.
When disregarding individual control and skill, spears were inherently more suitable for utilizing Vibrational Force than long swords. At some point, unbeknownst to anyone, the General's attacks began incorporating Vibrational Force.
When Lian Yun and the Insect Emperor became aware, she transformed her thrust into a strike, smashing a Year Beast to pieces.
Although the general was just a girl of seven or eight years old, she possessed great strength. However, shattering a Year Beast with high defensive capabilities required a certain level of skill.
It was under the circumstances that neither Lian Yun nor the Insect Emperor noticed that the general had independently grasped the technique of Vibrational Force.
This was somewhat acceptable; after all, Lian Yun had originally comprehended it entirely on her own. Now, with the reference of a Grandmaster like the Insect Emperor, it seemed only natural for the general to gain insight.
After all, the general could be considered a talent.
However, what followed began to challenge Lian Yun's and the Insect Emperor's understanding.
The general's comprehension of Vibrational Force appeared to surpass her marksmanship. Within just two moments, she was able to shatter an Elite Year Beast with a single shot, and her force was not even substantial.
This indicated that she had nearly grasped the essence of Vibrational Force.
Lian Yun felt happy for her and became less concerned about rankings, but the Insect Emperor was not so calm.
He retreated and connected with his Soul Body, allowing a Tyrannosaurus Rex-like beast spirit to continue attacking the Year Beast BSS. He then pulled the general aside and sincerely said, "Brat, do you want to take me as your master?"
This time, his desire to take on an apprentice was much stronger than when he wanted to accept Lian Yun.
Firstly, he understood that he did not have the 'qualifications' to be Lian Yun's teacher. Secondly, while Lian Yun was impressive, it was because she already had an understanding and application of Vibrational Force.
However, the General was different. She seemed to have gone from nothing to something in just a few moments, her understanding of Vibrational Force surpassing even Lian Yun's by a slight margin.
It was clear that the General was far more suited to inherit the legacy of the Insect Emperor, and in fact, there was no one else who could be more fitting for it.
Otherwise, the Insect Emperor would not have shown such willingness to give up the wager of the Three Thousand Supreme Treasure Box for her.
He believed that taking the General as his disciple was worth more than any wealth.
Yet, the General was taken aback for a moment before shaking her head firmly and saying, "I already have a master."
In the past, the Insect Emperor might have reacted with anger, coercion, or even threats and temptations. However, at this moment, he felt heartbroken and at a loss, even feeling as if he had lost all desire for life.
For the first time in many years, he had found someone who rejected him outright and made him realize he was unworthy to be their master. And now, this second person who was even more suitable also refused to take him as a teacher.
The Insect Emperor did not feel fortunate to have encountered two individuals fit for his legacy; he only felt as if fate were mocking him.
Just when the Insect Emperor was in despair, Lian Yun also gave up fighting and approached them with a somewhat cheerful and relaxed expression. "General, I think you should take the Insect Emperor as your master."
