In order to have her parents feed her, a 15-year-old girl from Hebei pretended to be paralyzed for 20 years.
For two whole decades, her parents not only had to take care of her daily needs but also relied on her sisters for assistance. Ultimately, she successfully "outlasted" her parents.
However, when her deception was uncovered, her family could hardly believe it.
"I think it's impossible. Who could pretend to be sick for so many years? You might manage it for three days, five days, or even ten days, but twenty years? That's impossible. Lying there for twenty years without moving at all."

In April 2009, a villager named Wu Guiling from Yejiafu Village in Fucheng County experienced a series of strange occurrences at home.
She began to notice that her house seemed haunted; every time she returned home, she would see a dark shadow inside the house. Yet, when she entered, nothing was there.
At first, Wu Guiling thought she might be imagining things, but after several days of seeing the shadow from outside the house, she started to wonder what was happening.
Could it really be that her house was haunted? This thought frightened Wu Guiling greatly.
She initially believed she was the only one who could see it. However, one day when her daughter returned home from boarding school and entered the room to get something, she suddenly ran out crying hysterically.
Seeing her daughter in such a panic, Wu Guiling rushed to ask what was wrong.
But Wu Guiling found it hard to believe her daughter's claims.
Her sister, Wu Guiying, had been bedridden since the age of 15 and had been unable to move for 20 years. Their mother had taken care of her until she passed away in 2007, after which the sisters took turns looking after her.
How could someone who couldn't even turn over in bed possibly get up?
Determined to find out the truth, Wu Guiling decided to ask her sister. However, Wu Guiying firmly denied ever getting out of bed. Yet seeing how frightened her daughter was made Wu Guiling question whether her sister might have been possessed by a ghost.
As Wu Guiling pondered the strange occurrences of the past few days, her fear only grew.
"I’m scared to be alone at home; I don’t dare to go out."
But one day, by chance, Wu Guiling uncovered the mystery behind the shadow. She and her husband were working in the fields when she suddenly realized she had forgotten to bring her tools.
She hurried back home, and as soon as she stepped through the door, she was startled to see a dark figure. This time, Wu Guiling recognized clearly that the person standing in the room, staring back at her, was none other than her sister Wu Guiying, who had been paralyzed for twenty years.
Due to her long illness, her sister's appearance had changed drastically.
Now, her sister, who had been bedridden for so long, was standing upright and looking directly at her. Caught completely off guard, Wu Guiling was terrified and fled out of the house in a panic.
"She has been lying there for so many years; how could she just get up? How did this happen?"
Quickly, she rushed back to the fields to call her husband. When they returned home, they found Wu Guiying had collapsed on the floor and was unconscious. They hurriedly lifted her onto the bed.
After some time, when Wu Guiying regained consciousness, Wu Guiling asked her what had happened. However, Wu Guiying claimed she didn’t know anything about it and that now she couldn’t even turn over in bed, let alone stand.
If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, Wu Guiling would never have imagined that her sister could walk.
In Wu Guiling’s memory, her sister had been paralyzed since she was fifteen and required constant care for all her needs. Without family assistance, Wu Guiying wouldn’t have survived.
Next to the bed hung an IV bag with a tube leading to her mouth. If no one was around to feed her water when family members were out, she would turn on the switch herself to drink; this was the only thing she could manage on her own.
Ever since witnessing her sister stand up, Wu Guiling contemplated that perhaps Wu Guiying had gained extraordinary abilities while sleepwalking, but doctors insisted that was impossible.
Soon enough, word spread throughout the village about what had happened. Many believed that Wu Guiying might have been faking her illness all along—faking it for twenty years without a single flaw detected.
Could someone really possess such strong willpower? But if she truly had been paralyzed, how did Wu Guiying manage to stand up that day?
As several sisters gathered to discuss this incident, they began recalling some peculiar events that had occurred over the years surrounding their sister.
One year, Wu Guiying surprisingly started speaking in the Tianjin Dialect. Her sister, who had never been to Tianjin, wondered how she could possibly speak it.
Moreover, Wu Guiying hadn't eaten for several days, yet she seemed perfectly fine.
"If a normal person were to go two or three days without eating, they wouldn't be able to handle it at all."
Soon, the villagers began to speculate that Wu Guiying must be possessed by a ghost, as there had never been a case of someone paralyzed for twenty years suddenly standing up.
To uncover the mystery, Wu Guiying's family called in a reporter.
The reporter secretly set up cameras in the house, but whether Wu Guiying discovered them or not, she remained completely still during the 24 hours of surveillance.
The reporter then moved the cameras outside, allowing them to see into the room through the window. After three days of filming, they finally caught sight of a figure in the room.
When the reporter entered the room, they found some peanuts by Wu Guiying's bedside. These peanuts had originally been stored in the cupboard; how did they end up next to her bed?
It turned out that Wu Guiying had been sneaking food while her family was out. However, when confronted by Wu Guiling, she adamantly denied ever standing up.
These strange behaviors worried her sisters greatly, and they hesitated to bring her home to care for her. After some discussion, they decided to take her to the hospital for an examination.
With the help of the reporter, Wu Guiying was taken to a hospital in Nanjing for testing. During the examination, she appeared very resistant. However, after much effort, it was confirmed that Wu Guiying was not paralyzed at all; all her indicators were perfectly normal.
This left her sisters puzzled. If she wasn't paralyzed, why had she been lying down for twenty years without getting up?
At that moment, Wu Guiying's fourth sister, Wu Guimei, shared her thoughts.
According to Wu Guimei, their family had eight children, and Wu Guiying was the youngest. As a child, she was frail and often ill, so their mother took special care of her. Whenever she fell sick and lay in bed, their mother would bring her food and drink and even feed her.
More importantly, whenever she was sick, Wu Guiying didn't have to work in the fields.
Over time, she grew accustomed to lounging in bed with no clear distinction between genuine illness and feigned sickness.
However, when she was fifteen, she had a quarrel with her brother over a trivial matter, and from that day on, she collapsed onto her bed and never got up again. Her family took her to see doctors, but no one could determine the cause of her condition.
For the past twenty years, her brother has carried a sense of guilt, feeling deeply sorry for his sister.
After Wu Guiying became paralyzed, her mother took even greater care of her, feeding her one spoonful at a time. Thus, Wu Guiying lived a life where food was brought to her mouth and clothes were handed to her.
As for the reason behind Wu Guiying's paralysis, the doctors suggested that she might be suffering from hysteria, a psychological disorder.
Regarding how Wu Guiying learned the Tianjin Dialect, the doctors explained that she likely picked it up through the radio and television during her episodes. Hysteria patients are often referred to as "imitation experts," and this condition can only be altered through psychological intervention to change their thought patterns.
Subsequently, the psychologist decided to use hypnosis as a treatment method for her.
During the treatment process, Wu Guiying breathed heavily and appeared to be in great discomfort. However, the doctor explained that this was typical of hysteria; she was attempting to elicit sympathy from others when, in reality, there was nothing physically wrong.
After three days of hypnosis treatment, Wu Guiying surprisingly managed to lift a cup by herself.
On the fourth day of treatment, with the doctor's assistance, Wu Guiying—who had been bedridden for twenty years—actually stood up.
Seeing this, Wu Guiying's sisters were overwhelmed with excitement.
With five stages of treatment completed, Wu Guiying was finally able to walk independently and slowly began to regain a sense of normalcy, though she still needed time to adapt to the outside world.
