As night fell and the city lights began to twinkle, Lin Xingyao sat in her small rented room, the warm glow illuminating her slightly weary face. She sat at her desk, holding the business card of Gu Beichen's agent, Wang Kai, taking a deep breath before dialing the number printed on it.
"Hello, is this Mr. Wang Kai?" Lin Xingyao's voice was tinged with nervousness but remained steady.
On the other end, a calm male voice responded, "Yes, this is he. May I ask who’s calling?"
"This is Lin Xingyao. I was at the coffee shop today..." Lin Xingyao briefly explained her situation.
"Oh, I remember now," Wang Kai said, a hint of realization in his tone. "Gu Beichen mentioned you. You want to audition, right? Tomorrow at ten in the morning at Starlight Entertainment Company. Does that work for you?"
"Yes, that’s perfect! Thank you so much!" Lin Xingyao's voice brimmed with gratitude as she tightened her grip on the phone.
After hanging up, Lin Xingyao let out a long sigh of relief, a joyful smile spreading across her face. She carefully placed the business card in a safe spot, treating it like a precious treasure.
Meanwhile, in the president's office of Starlight Entertainment Company, Gu Beichen stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the city’s nightscape. Wang Kai entered the room and informed him about Lin Xingyao's audition.
Gu Beichen nodded slightly and after a moment of contemplation said, "I will observe tomorrow, but do not disclose my involvement."
His tone was calm yet carried an undeniable authority. Wang Kai nodded in understanding and exited the office.
The next morning, Lin Xingyao woke up early and prepared herself meticulously. She wore a simple white dress and applied light makeup, giving her an air of freshness and elegance. She checked her appearance in the mirror carefully, smiled to encourage herself, and then stepped out of her home.
In the taxi, Lin Xingyao practiced her audition lines repeatedly, feeling a slight sweat forming in her palms. She rubbed her hands together nervously, trying hard to maintain her composure.
Upon arriving at Starlight Entertainment Company, Lin Xingyao followed Wang Kai's instructions to find the audition room. Inside, several people were already waiting, including some well-known actors. Seeing so many competitors made Lin Xingyao feel even more anxious.
She quietly walked to the corner, beginning to adjust her state of mind. Qin Yuwei also appeared at the audition site. Today, she wore a red dress, her makeup flawless, making her look radiant. She scanned the surroundings, a hint of arrogance in her gaze. When she spotted Lin Xingyao, a flash of disdain crossed her eyes.
Qin Yuwei approached Lin Xingyao, her tone mocking as she said, "Oh, isn't this the girl from the coffee shop the other day? What brings you here to audition? You think you can compete with me?"
Lin Xingyao lifted her head, calmly meeting Qin Yuwei's gaze. With a firm tone, she replied, "Everyone has the right to pursue their dreams. Why shouldn't I come to audition?"
Qin Yuwei scoffed and turned away, ignoring Lin Xingyao as she walked towards other actors. The audition began. Lin Xingyao performed the required content flawlessly. She expressed the character's emotions vividly, impressing Director Li with her outstanding performance. Director Li adjusted his glasses, a glimmer of appreciation in his eyes.
However, Qin Yuwei's audition did not go smoothly. Due to an unbalanced mindset, she faltered and made frequent mistakes. Frustrated, she bit her lip, filled with resentment. Director Li shook his head and ultimately announced that Lin Xingyao had secured an important role in the film.
Upon hearing this news, Lin Xingyao was overwhelmed with emotion, tears welling in her eyes. She approached Director Li and bowed deeply, sincerely saying, "Thank you, Director Li! I will do my best to portray this role!"
After leaving the audition room, Lin Xingyao immediately called Gu Beichen. "Hello, Mr. Gu! I passed the audition!" Her voice was filled with joy.
On the other end of the line, Gu Beichen's deep and magnetic voice responded, "Congratulations."
Lin Xingyao tightened her grip on the phone, excitedly saying, "Thank you, Mr. Gu! Thank you for giving me this opportunity!"
Gu Beichen smiled and replied, "You deserve it."
Lin Xingyao hung up the phone, a radiant smile lighting up her face.
She looked up at the sky, sunlight spilling over her face as if it were coated in a layer of golden light. Taking a deep breath, she stepped toward a new future.
Qin Yuwei stood at a distance, watching Lin Xingyao's retreating figure, her eyes filled with resentment. She clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging deep into her palms. She blamed everything on Lin Xingyao, the flames of jealousy burning fiercely within her.
Turning away, she walked off, the sound of her high heels clicking sharply against the floor, echoing her inner fury. "Damn it!" Qin Yuwei muttered under her breath, slamming the script onto the ground.
Assistant Xiao Zhang hurried over, carefully picking up the script and silently following behind Qin Yuwei.
Reaching the parking lot, Qin Yuwei yanked open the car door and sat inside, slamming it shut with a loud bang. Xiao Zhang quickly took the passenger seat and started the engine.
The interior of the car was silent, only the faint hum of the air conditioning breaking the stillness. Qin Yuwei stared out at the rapidly retreating scenery, her gaze dark and brooding.
