Zhou Mumu was missing.
Her husband, Li Dagen, said he found a suicide note at home this morning, and no matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find her.
I couldn't believe it. Just a few hours ago, she had been lively and trying to seduce my husband. How could things have turned out like this?
The note was filled with accusations of the "persecution" I had inflicted on her over the years, painting me as a wicked woman in every line.
As I read those twisted words, I felt a surge of anger that made me tremble.
It was clear that she had been bullying me all these years, yet now she was turning the tables and placing all the blame on me.
I recounted everything to the police in detail, and they emphasized that they had only called me in to assist with the investigation.
But Li Dagen acted like a thug, insisting that I had driven Zhou Mumu to her death. He exaggerated our past conflicts, practically begging the police to arrest me and sentence me to death on the spot.
"You poisonous woman! Zhou Mumu is your sister-in-law! How could you have driven her to this? You're inhuman!"
"I warn you to watch your words. If you keep talking nonsense, I'll sue you. If you had treated your wife better, we wouldn't be in this situation!"
"I don't care! You killed my wife! You must give me the house under your name as compensation!"
I couldn't help but laugh at that moment.
"So this is just a play between you two? You went through all this trouble just to get my house?"
"Stop talking nonsense! Who's acting with you? My wife is missing, and this suicide note is clearly written in black and white. If she really did something irreversible, you will pay for it with your life. I'm offering you a house as a favor!"
"Officer, I suspect that Zhou Mumu has been kidnapped by her husband. Before they got married, Zhou Mumu said that Li Dagen treated her poorly, and after they got married, Li Dagen threatened her with divorce every day. Now that Zhou Mumu has just gone missing, he’s in a hurry to get a house. It's highly suspicious."

Li Dagen lunged at me like a rabid dog, but thankfully several police officers were quick to restrain him.
Getting into a scuffle at the police station meant there was no escaping detention.
Even though Li Dagen was taken into custody, I couldn't shake off the unease in my heart.
The police asked me some questions and then let me go, reminding me not to leave the city for a while and to keep my phone on for their investigation.
Once home, I couldn't make sense of whether this was all part of Zhou Mumu's new trick or if she truly had lost hope.
If she was really considering such drastic measures just because I refused to lend Yuwei to have a child with her, that would be absurd.
Just as I was feeling overwhelmed, my phone suddenly buzzed with dozens of messages.
Someone had posted that suicide note online, and soon after, several marketing accounts began to hype it up. My name quickly shot to the top of the trending searches.
The post had been published just moments ago, but Li Dagen was locked up in the detention center and couldn’t access the internet. Zhou Mumu had poor social connections and wouldn’t have any friends to speak up for her. So who could have posted it?
Instantly, the internet erupted with insults directed at me. My personal information, workplace details, and even my home address were exposed online.
I had tried to defend myself, but the more I argued, the louder the insults became. Even my parents called to question me about what was happening.
I was at a loss for words; the only thing I could do was to find Zhou Mumu as quickly as possible to clear my name.
In the following days, I kept receiving inexplicable abusive messages, and even found dead cockroaches and mice in my takeout orders.
To avoid dragging Yuwei into this mess, I told him to stay at the hospital for a few days and take care of his uncle instead of coming home.
I also took a few days off from work, staying cooped up at home and too afraid to go out. I even avoided ordering takeout, relying on myself for every meal.
Three days later, with the fridge nearly empty and the heat of that post gradually fading, I finally dared to step outside.
Although I wrapped myself in layers of clothing, from the market to my doorstep, I felt as if someone was watching me.
The sensation made my back crawl, and I hurriedly dropped the basket and rushed home.
My hands trembled as I fumbled with the door. Just as I unlocked the last bolt, a sudden blow struck the back of my head.
I collapsed immediately.
As consciousness slipped away, I heard Zhou Mumu's voice beside me: "Do you really not remember who I am?"
