"My Tenant is a Female Ghost" was a phrase that startled everyone present, especially Cai Wenwu. His cousin was trapped inside, along with several of his warriors. If they all perished here, he would have no place left in the army.
"Boss, lead the way," Black Tiger said as he hoisted the massive sniper rifle onto his shoulder. "Let's go rescue Wang Bin!" Cai Wenwu nodded and signaled a few remaining fighters who were still able to fight. "Let's move, keep your eyes peeled... Black Tiger, stay close to me; I need to talk to you."
Black Tiger followed Cai Wenwu and asked, "What's up, boss?"
Cai Wenwu leaned in closer to Black Tiger and said, "In case of an emergency, prioritize protecting Brother Bai Zhuo. Listen to the instructor and Uncle Hu; he's an extraordinary figure in the realm of Yin-Yang Masters and comes from a prestigious lineage—he's a rare asset."
Black Tiger nodded and asked, "Have you seen the instructor? Is he doing well lately?"
"He's fine, hasn't changed much since before."
"Honestly, we owe a lot of our current achievements to him. If it weren't for him taking the blame back then, we would have been finished."
"Let's not dwell on the past; the instructor prefers not to discuss that incident. Remember, prioritize protecting Brother Bai Zhuo."
"Got it, boss."
Bai Zhuo followed closely behind Cai Wenwu along with three Grave Robbers and five warriors. Seeing Cai Wenwu whispering with Black Tiger and glancing at the sniper rifle on Black Tiger's shoulder sparked Bai Zhuo's curiosity about their backstory.
After leaving the previous palace, the cave was pitch black and chilly. Everyone turned on their tactical flashlights, while the three Grave Robbers lit oil lamps.
Bai Zhuo asked, "Why aren't we using electric lights?"
One of the younger Grave Robbers replied, "Fire needs oxygen. If the lamp goes out due to lack of oxygen, it can be dangerous. Besides, we don't have gas masks; carrying them would be inconvenient. Our lamp oil has been specially treated; if the flame changes color, it means there's poison in the air."
His reasoning made some sense, but if there were deadly toxins in the air, they wouldn't have time to escape anyway.
"You must be a Yin-Yang Master," said the younger Grave Robber. "I'm Wang Tao; I've been a professional Tomb Raider for fifteen years—ha!"
Bai Zhuo felt indifferent towards these Grave Robbers; he held neither hatred nor fondness for them and merely nodded lightly. Wang Tao continued, "That thing you used earlier was a Soul-Restraining Talisman, right?"
"You know about this talisman?" Bai Zhuo asked.
"Oh, this is a great tool for restraining zombies! Ordinary zombies lack souls; just one cheap Soul-Restraining Talisman can hold them down—provided you can stick it on their heads."
"Oh? You seem to know quite a bit, huh?"
Wang Tao chuckled, "I've been dealing with ancient tombs for years; you have to understand these things. Zombies can be quite troublesome creatures."
Bai Zhuo nodded, not wanting to speak. Wang Tao subtly leaned closer to Bai Zhuo, signaling him to slow down. After a moment, Wang Tao grabbed Bai Zhuo's arm, and the two fell to the back of the group.
Bai Zhuo frowned warily and asked, "What do you want?"
Wang Tao waved his hand dismissively. "Brother, don't misunderstand. I have a deal for you. Are you interested?"
"Not interested," Bai Zhuo flatly refused.
"Hey, hey, hey, brother, don't be in such a hurry. Just take a look at the goods!" Wang Tao pulled out his phone, quickly tapped a few times, and showed Bai Zhuo a photo.
The picture displayed a piece of yellowed leather paper adorned with strange illustrations and text. "This is the front; now take a look at the back." With that, Wang Tao swiped his finger, revealing another image. Bai Zhuo's pupils constricted as he turned to ask, "Where did you get this?"
Wang Tao grinned widely. "You really know your stuff! An unknowledgeable Yin-Yang Master wouldn't recognize this kind of Curse Seal. So, what do you say? Want to make a deal? After the mission is over, I'll give you the original."
Bai Zhuo pondered for a moment before asking, "What do you want in return?"
Wang Tao shook his head. "I don't want anything. Brother, to be honest, that big guy and your leader don’t care about the lives of us three Grave Robbers at all. My gut tells me this mission is extremely dangerous; I just hope you can lend me a hand when the time comes. Is that okay?"
Bai Zhuo looked at the group moving further away and asked, "What about those two?"
Wang Tao smirked. "I'm not on the same side as them... Buddha once said that saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. So, will you agree?"
Bai Zhuo flicked his Peach Wood Sword and thought for a moment before catching up with the group. "Is your life worth just this piece of scrap paper?"
As Bai Zhuo walked away, Wang Tao clicked his tongue and muttered to himself, "This guy has quite an appetite."
The Curse Seal in the photo was unfamiliar to Bai Zhuo; it was something he had never seen before. However, he recalled that it resembled a similar Curse Seal from the white book he had taken from Elder Ge's study. If he hadn't seen this Curse Seal today, he might have completely forgotten about that book.
Following Cai Wenwu's footsteps, the cave grew narrow again. The stone slabs beneath their feet were damp and covered in moss; the path was somewhat slippery, like an alley in the dark of night.
The group walked in silence. Suddenly, a voice came from behind them.
"Hmm?" Bai Zhuo turned around and asked, "Who sighed just now?"
The few warriors behind exchanged glances, all shaking their heads. "There's no sound, huh?"
"Whoosh..." A cool breeze passed through the neck area, and Bai Zhuo shivered, clearly seeing a white shadow float past behind everyone. "Never mind, I must have misheard," Bai Zhuo said.
Cai Wenwu walked over to Bai Zhuo and asked softly, "Brother Bai, did you see that shadow again?"
Bai Zhuo nodded. "But I don't know what it is. The unknown is the most terrifying; I don't like this feeling."
Cai Wenwu smiled. "Ghosts aren't scary; it's the malice in people's hearts that is. Brother Bai, what was that Grave Robber talking to you about? You need to be cautious."
Unexpectedly, Cai Wenwu had already noticed the movements of that Grave Robber. "It wasn't much. He saw me as a Yin-Yang Master and wanted to make a deal since he had something in his hand."
Cai Wenwu patted Bai Zhuo on the shoulder. "Well, just stay alert... We're almost at the camp."
The ten of them followed Cai Wenwu's lead, cautiously walking through the darkness. After another three to five minutes, the area ahead brightened. They ran and soon reached the camp.
This was an even larger palace than before, with a roof full of pits and hollows. It seemed that the Luminous Pearls above had been dug out by some Tomb Raiders, leaving only a few large searchlights behind. The camp was in disarray; tents, cooking pots, weapons, and various supplies were scattered everywhere, but there was not a single person or body in sight.
Wang Tao exclaimed in surprise, "What the hell! Was that side palace just now? Is this really the main hall?" (To be continued.)
