My Tenant is a Female Ghost
Bai Zhuo had no grievances with Climbing Tiger, yet Climbing Tiger was relentlessly trying to kill him, which infuriated Bai Zhuo. He hid in the shadows and continuously drew talismans, throwing several yellow paper charms into the nearby bushes.
"This is his territory; hiding like this won't work. I need to find a way to lure him out. Besides, this guy's archery is even more accurate than Kagura Keiha's—I've got to be careful!"
With that thought, he threw another talisman. "Secret Technique—Thunder God Summons, Urgent Command!"
"Over there!" A furious shout came from the flower thicket, followed by the twang of a bowstring. An arrow struck the ground beside Bai Zhuo, startling him into a cold sweat as he froze in place. The Thunder Emperor Talisman ignited spontaneously, lightning crashing down and cutting a Ramda Flower in half, petals scattering in the air. Taking advantage of the noise, Bai Zhuo quickly changed his position.
"When I first met him, I didn't see him with a bow. This guy is quite cunning; he hid his weapon beforehand... That Wang Kun's bean-soldier technique can even transform into his own likeness. If I could use that spell, I wouldn't be so passive now," Bai Zhuo thought as he pulled out a 54 pistol from his pocket.
This pistol was the one Cai Wenwu had lent him earlier, and he hadn't returned it yet. The airport security was the strictest among all transportation methods; it was hard to believe how Bai Zhuo managed to get the pistol through security and bring it here—it was quite baffling.
Bai Zhuo checked the magazine; there were still two bullets left. The 54 pistol had a relatively small magazine capacity of only nine rounds, but as one of the pioneering domestically produced handguns, its penetrating power was formidable. Even at sixty meters away, it could penetrate police bulletproof vests and helmets, earning it the nickname "Black Star" elsewhere. Given how dangerous the 54 pistol was, could Cai Wenwu really have forgotten about it? After all, with his rank of Major, he wouldn't make such an obvious and deadly mistake. Perhaps this was a signal of intentional camaraderie?
Regardless of all that, Bai Zhuo loaded the magazine, chambered a round, and crawled on the ground while listening intently.
"Rustle rustle..." A sound came from the right side where grass was being disturbed. Bai Zhuo gripped his pistol tightly and aimed at the source without hesitation before pulling the trigger! The firing pin struck the base of the bullet, igniting the smokeless powder inside the cartridge. With a loud bang, the cartridge ejected hot air from the side of the chamber; flames erupted from the muzzle as the bullet shot into the nearby grass.
The sound of the 54 pistol was extremely loud, more ear-piercing than an ordinary handgun. Bai Zhuo believed that regardless of whether he hit Climbing Tiger or not, this gunshot combined with the thunderous noise would soon draw attention from the village. At that point, with Miao Xiaoqi around, he certainly couldn't act against Climbing Tiger in front of her.
Climbing Tiger was startled by the gunfire and quickly rolled behind a large rock for cover. He shouted loudly, "Who are you? How do you have a handgun?"
Bai Zhuo sneered and fired another shot at the source of Climbing Tiger's voice! The bullet struck the rock and sent fragments flying; Climbing Tiger shrank back and yelled, "Hey! Let's talk this over!"
Bai Zhuo remained silent; Climbing Tiger didn't dare show himself in fear of what might happen next. After about a minute of silence, Bai Zhuo spoke up: "Why do you want to kill me?"
Climbing Tiger denied it and explained, "I never intended to kill you! I just wanted to drive you away! Three people came to our village before and harmed Miao Long's Younger Brother. Since then, our Miao Family Gu Clan has decided to no longer welcome outsiders! Now I think I've misunderstood you; let's talk this out!"
"Misunderstanding?" Bai Zhuo laughed as if he had heard a great joke. "Is it because of my handgun? Do you think I'm an idiot? I advise you not to act rashly or try using your Gu Worms against me; otherwise, you'll regret it!"
Climbing Tiger leaned against the boulder and explained, "Friend, anyone can possess Miao Family Gu Worms; they're not something that can be easily concocted. I'm an outsider to the Miao Family—I don't have any Gu Worms! You can rest assured!"
It turns out that the Gu Worm is not something that can be easily obtained? With Zhu Man's acknowledgment, I have become Qing's master, which means I've struck quite a bargain.
But thinking about it, it makes sense. The Gu Worm is incredibly magical; it not only connects with its master’s thoughts but can also kill and save lives. The Miaojiang Gu Technique is already fearsome enough. If every member of their clan could obtain a Gu Worm, then the Miaojiang Gu Clan would be truly terrifying.
Bai Zhuo said, "Why should I trust you..." Before he could finish his sentence, two sounds of bowstrings being drawn came swiftly from the grass across from him.
It was Climbing Tiger, taking advantage of Bai Zhuo's moment of relaxation to draw his longbow and shoot two arrows toward the source of Bai Zhuo's voice!
Climbing Tiger heard a scream and saw the figure in the grass thrashing a few times before falling silent. A surge of joy filled Climbing Tiger as he picked up the spear on the ground and rushed over.
"You little brat! Let's see how arrogant you are now! How dare you oppose me, Climbing Tiger? You won't even know how you died!" Climbing Tiger muttered to himself, his originally gentle and sunny face twisting into a fierce expression. As he pushed aside the grass in front of him, he was suddenly taken aback; apart from a few yellow talismans, there was no sign of Bai Zhuo! "Oh no! I've been tricked!"
Realizing this, Climbing Tiger turned to run, but it was already too late.
"Two Instruments and Four Symbols, Five Elements and Eight Trigrams! Water level, Kan Water Talisman, Supreme True Lord, Urgent Command! Command!" Hearing this furious shout, Climbing Tiger knew he couldn't evade it. He instinctively aimed to shoot an arrow at the source of the voice, but his feet felt as if they had sunk into a swamp. Unable to stand firm, his aim faltered, and the arrow grazed Bai Zhuo's clothing before embedding itself in a flowering tree. A large number of Ramda Flowers fell in response, creating a beautiful scene.
Bai Zhuo dashed out from the side and snatched the bow away, smashing the wooden shortbow against a rock until it broke. Climbing Tiger was not ready to give up; he hurled his spear at Bai Zhuo with a piercing whistle.
However, after experiencing so many life-and-death battles, Bai Zhuo was somewhat more agile than an ordinary person. He swiftly dodged to the side and narrowly avoided the incoming spear.
Under the effect of the Kan Water Talisman, Climbing Tiger's legs sank into the ground, rendering his lower body immobile. Bai Zhuo walked over and pointed his gun at Climbing Tiger. "Are you really one of the Miaojiang People? You’re not an imposter, are you?"
Climbing Tiger was frightened by the gun in Bai Zhuo's hand and instinctively raised his hands to shield his face, seething with anger. "You outsider! Get out of Miao Village! Get out of Miao Family!"
Bai Zhuo frowned and asked, "What grudge do we have that would make you want to kill me?"
Climbing Tiger replied fiercely, "You raise ghosts; raising ghosts requires human essence. Just by looking at your lewd appearance, I know you're not a good person! You even dare to call yourself a friend of Miao Xiaoqi? Miao Xiaoqi would never have someone like you as a friend!"
Bai Zhuo laughed in anger. "What an absurd reason!"
Seizing the moment while Bai Zhuo spoke, Climbing Tiger quickly pulled something out of his pocket and threw it at Bai Zhuo.
Bai Zhuo was taken aback, realizing it was a poison powder. He quickly stepped back, but to his surprise, Climbing Tiger grabbed his gun, leaving Bai Zhuo unable to advance or retreat. Fearful of the powder in front of him, Bai Zhuo released the gun and continued to back away.
Climbing Tiger bent down and tore the talisman on the ground into several pieces. With the Kan Water Talisman losing its power, Climbing Tiger lifted his feet and broke free from the mud. He sneered, "Hah! So much useless chatter, just die already!"
With both hands on the gun, Climbing Tiger aimed at Bai Zhuo and pulled the trigger. At this distance of only five meters, no matter how fast Bai Zhuo was, he could never outrun a bullet.
Despair crossed Bai Zhuo's face as if he were pleading with Climbing Tiger. However, Climbing Tiger's expression turned frenzied as he unhesitatingly pulled the trigger!
“Click!” The gun clicked back; the bullet did not fire because the magazine was already empty. Furious, Climbing Tiger repeatedly pulled the trigger of the unloaded gun at Bai Zhuo, producing a series of clicking sounds.
"Why do you want to kill me so badly?"
Climbing Tiger glared fiercely at Bai Zhuo. Just as Bai Zhuo was about to ask again, they heard Miao Xiaoqi's delicate voice calling from not far away in the village.
"Brother Bai! Brother Bai! Where are you?"
Upon hearing Miao Xiaoqi's voice, Climbing Tiger's cold expression vanished instantly, replaced by joy. He threw away the gun and ran over. Bai Zhuo quickly picked up his gun and hid it away, marveling that Climbing Tiger would have made a great actor.
"Qiqi!"
Miao Xiaoqi approached and upon seeing Climbing Tiger, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, exclaimed in surprise, "Oh? It's Brother Ahu!"
"It's me! Qiqi," Climbing Tiger said with a radiant smile as he took Miao Xiaoqi's hand and frowned slightly. "You’ve lost weight after two months."
Seeing Bai Zhuo not far away made Miao Xiaoqi feel strange and a bit sour inside; she subtly withdrew her hand and asked with a smile, "Brother Ahu, what are you doing here? I heard some thunder earlier; what happened?"
"Oh, it seems like a sudden storm; nothing serious! Qiqi, I caught a wild rabbit today. Come to my house tonight; we can roast it!"
Miao Xiaoqi forced a smile and replied hesitantly, "Um... my younger brother A Long is unconscious; I won't be able to come tonight. Let's change plans; I need to find Brother Bai for something."
"Qiqi, do you know this outsider?" Climbing Tiger emphasized the word "outsider" loudly to express his dissatisfaction.
Miao Xiaoqi ignored Climbing Tiger entirely and skipped over to Bai Zhuo, taking his hand. "Brother Bai, come with me quickly; Great-Grandmother wants to see you."
Bai Zhuo followed Miao Xiaoqi away from the village entrance, leaving Climbing Tiger standing alone beneath the flowering tree, his face clouded with uncertainty.
"Qii, your Great-Grandmother wants to see me? How does she know about me?"
Miao Xiaoqi's cheeks flushed. "I told Great-Grandmother everything that happened while I was out. When she learned that the Seven-Colored Caterpillar had spun its cocoon, she sent me to find you." Of course, Miao Xiaoqi wouldn’t mention to Bai Zhuo that she had also told Great-Grandmother about spying on Yang Liu while she bathed.
Bai Zhuo asked curiously, "Is there something special about this Seven-Colored Silkworm spinning its cocoon? It seems your grandmother takes it quite seriously."
Miao Xiaoqi tilted her head in thought. "It doesn’t seem particularly special… Actually, I'm not very clear on it either. Fuzzy is a Gu Worm that has only recently formed, and my connection with Fuzzy isn't very clear or stable yet."
Bai Zhuo reached out to pat Miao Xiaoqi on the head. "Well, meeting Great-Grandmother sounds good. I've never met anyone who has lived over a hundred years!" He enjoyed patting Peach Loli's head; since Miao Xiaoqi wasn't very tall, he habitually reached up to do so. Miao Xiaoqi had never resisted, and over time it became a routine.
Miao Xiaoqi's face turned crimson as she stammered, "Bai, Brother Bai! You can't call her Great-Grandmother... Great-Grandmother is our Witch Clan's Spirit Maiden. You have to call her... ah, anyway, you just can't call her Great-Grandmother!"
Bai Zhuo asked in confusion, "Spirit Maiden? Last time you said you were a Spirit Maiden too? Why is Great-Grandmother also a Spirit Maiden? Does your clan have many Spirit Maidens?"
"There is only one Spirit Maiden. I am Great-Grandmother's heir... ah! Brother Bai, just don’t call her that!"
"Why can't I call her Great-Grandmother?"
Miao Xiaoqi lowered her head as she walked ahead, making it hard for others to see her face, which was so red it seemed like it could bleed. "Just... just because you can't!"
Girls often have strange requests; Bai Zhuo decided to humor her for now. However, he thought about it—besides calling her Great-Grandmother, what else could he use? Old lady? Granny? Those didn’t seem right.
As they passed the backyard, Yang Liu and Ge Shui Lian were nowhere to be seen; they were likely in their own rooms. Miao Xiaoqi had arranged a large attic for Bai Zhuo.
They walked through a long wooden corridor rich with ethnic charm; various exquisite carvings and woodwork left Bai Zhuo in awe as an outsider. After following Miao Xiaoqi for a while and turning around a wooden bridge, he saw an ancient yet slightly ornate attic standing before him.
Miao Xiaoqi pointed at the attic. "Brother Bai, this is Great-Grandmother's attic; you can go in."
"Aren't you coming?"
"Well, Great-Grandmother only sees you alone." Miao Xiaoqi nodded, preparing to leave, but suddenly remembered something, her face turning slightly red again. "Brother Bai, please don't call her Great-Grandmother anymore..."
Is this old lady so mysterious?
Bai Zhuo replied absentmindedly, "Oh, I understand. I'll go in now."
"Yes, go ahead, Brother Bai. I'll get your room ready and wait for you here."
Bai Zhuo slowly walked forward and gently pushed open the attic door, which creaked as it opened.
"Kid, you’re here."
"Uh, Great-Grandmother, I’m here. Did you need something?"
The old woman was hunched over, her face covered in deep wrinkles that resembled ravines, looking no different from an ordinary elderly person. It was hard to believe she was over a hundred years old. Upon hearing Bai Zhuo's words, she paused for a moment before suddenly bursting into laughter, appearing very happy. "Come here, good child, sit with Great-Grandmother for a while!"
