My Tenant is a Female Ghost
Ever since Bai Zhuo learned that the female ghost in his home was not only a Millennium Ghost but also a thousand-year-old Fox Spirit, he felt utterly unsettled. It was like being caught in a web of his own making. He couldn't help but recall the heated exchange he had over the phone with Su Meiniang, and he felt a chill run down his spine. Fortunately, Master Hengyuan assured him that Su Meiniang harbored no malice and that her cultivation was arduous, so she wouldn’t easily harm others. This thought eased Bai Zhuo's mind somewhat.
Perhaps it was due to the upcoming competition, but guests were constantly arriving at Elder Ge's home, leaving him with no time to instruct his disciple.
"Bai Zhuo, this is my treasured sword. Take it and spend some time studying the Ghost Catching Technique in my study. A master can only guide you to the door; your cultivation depends on yourself. Strive to place in the top three at the competition," Elder Ge said before walking off with several acquaintances.
Seriously? Is this how a master behaves? And could you please pay more attention to your granddaughter? Her nose is so high in the air; can’t she show me, her junior, a bit more respect? Of course, these thoughts remained unspoken. Bai Zhuo couldn’t stand Ge Shui Lian’s resentful gaze any longer. He picked out a few books, slipped the Nameless White Book in between them, and with an ancient text in one arm and the Peach Wood Sword and Yellow Clay Jar in the other, he quietly slipped back home.
"Brother Bai, you're back!" Spirit Peach exclaimed as she rushed toward him for a hug. However, upon seeing the Peach Wood Sword in his hand, she hesitated. Bai Zhuo set down his belongings and affectionately ruffled the hair of this ethereal little girl. To his surprise, he noticed that blossoms were blooming on the branches of the peach tree, and it seemed that a flower had sprouted atop White Peach's head as well! At first, Bai Zhuo thought it was just an accessory…
He asked, "White Peach, it's summer now; why are there still peach blossoms?"
The little girl smiled widely as she enjoyed her brother's affection. "Hehe, White Peach is about to become a Peach Blossom Spirit!"
Is there really much difference between a Peach Tree Spirit and a Peach Blossom Spirit?
Bai Zhuo chuckled, "That's wonderful! If you need any help, just let your brother know; I will definitely assist you!"
The little girl squinted her eyes happily. "Mm, thank you, Brother Bai!"
As for Cao Xin, he was hiding in Bai Zhuo's room, silently absorbing Spiritual Energy, his dazed eyes occasionally sparkling with clarity.
Lin Yao Yao hadn’t returned yet. Bai Zhuo began to wonder if this female ghost tenant of his was perhaps not as proper as he had hoped; if that were true, it would be quite unfortunate. The door to Su Meiniang's room was ajar, but considering her formidable background, Bai Zhuo didn’t have the courage to approach her for a greeting—even though she had saved his life.
In the living room, Bai Zhuo quietly flipped through the books he had borrowed from Elder Ge. Suddenly, a cool breeze swept through the room, and a stunning figure sat cross-legged on his desk. Rather than being awed by her beauty, Bai Zhuo was startled.
"W-What are you doing?" he stammered.
Su Meiniang spoke in a sweet, coaxing tone, "Sister, I'm so bored. Come chat with me~"
At that moment, Su Meiniang had returned to her previous ancient-style attire, sitting cross-legged in front of Bai Zhuo, the hem of her skirt fluttering slightly. Bai Zhuo cursed under his breath at the vixen and replied irritably, "We are from different worlds; my time is precious. I don't have time for you, Sister."
The corners of Su Meiniang's mouth curled up as she exuded charm. With her delicate fingers, she picked up the Peach Wood Sword resting nearby and toyed with it. "This is quite something—a century-old Peach Wood Sword, engraved with an exorcism talisman. Just look at its murderous aura; it must have slain quite a few ghosts."
Bai Zhuo was taken aback. "Aren't you afraid of that thing?"
Su Meiniang scoffed lightly, tracing the talisman on the sword's tip. "This? Hmph~ Nothing that can hurt me has been born yet." She set down the Peach Wood Sword and curiously picked up the Yellow Clay Jar, asking, "What is this? I think I smell the scent of a ghost..."
Bai Zhuo exclaimed in alarm, "Don't!"
But it was too late. Su Meiniang eagerly broke the seal on the jar and peered inside. A wisp of blue smoke escaped, and the jar shattered into dust.
Feigning innocence, Su Meiniang stared at the smoke and said, "Ah... it got away..."
Bai Zhuo was furious and suddenly erupted in rage. Su Meiniang was caught off guard as Bai Zhuo grabbed her delicate neck and shook her back and forth. "Ah! Su Meiniang, are you crazy?! That was bought with three hundred Soul-Sealing Pearls! Damn it, Su Meiniang! You owe me those Soul-Sealing Pearls!"
Su Meiniang seemed dazed by Bai Zhuo's shaking; her eyes widened in shock as she froze.
Bai Zhuo also froze, instinctively withdrawing her hands as if shocked. What have I done? I choked her; will she kill me for this? Oh no... A thousand alpacas raced through Bai Zhuo's mind as she hurriedly said, "I—I’ll go catch that ghost!"
Bai Zhuo snatched up the Peach Wood Sword and rushed out, leaving Su Meiniang sitting at the desk in a daze. After a long while, Su Meiniang finally snapped back to reality and furrowed her brows in confusion. "What kind of deal did that brat make with a ghost?"
...
With the seal broken, the ghost escaped from the jar and fled swiftly. Bai Zhuo followed the faint trace of fragrant spiritual energy outside and soon heard cries of anguish and sounds of fighting coming from a nearby alley.
Hiding around a corner, Bai Zhuo witnessed a shocking scene: six strange beings with Ox-Head features were surrounding the fleeing Ghost Servant! These towering figures donned ancient official robes and wielded large blades with fierce intensity.
“Yin Chai! Bind the soul!” Bai Zhuo exclaimed in surprise.
The leader among the Ox-Head demons, seeing that they had not captured the female ghost, drew out a thorny whip and swung it with a whoosh.
Bai Zhuo was too far away to hear what they were saying, but from a distance, he noticed that the face of the female ghost bore a striking resemblance to Lin Yao Yao!
The Ox-Head demon wielding the whip shouted, “Fairy, surrender peacefully to avoid the pain of being whipped!”
The female ghost angrily retorted, “Even if your Bull General comes, you will still have to kneel before me. Who do you think you are to threaten me?”
“There’s a saying that a tiger falling into the plains is bullied by dogs. Fairy, I’m sorry!” The Ox-Head demon’s eyes flashed coldly as he swung the thorny whip down towards her. The female ghost dodged to the side just in time, barely avoiding it. “Hmph! Even if I become a Ghost Slave in the Underworld, I will never go back!”
Bai Zhuo watched anxiously from afar. This ghost had cost him three hundred Soul-Sealing Pearls, and he had even been scolded by Elder Ge for it… In his desperation, Bai Zhuo thought little of the Yin Chai; he just needed to save her. There were so many wandering souls in this world; surely the Underworld wouldn’t miss one more ghost!
Bai Zhuo bit his lip until he drew blood and smeared it on his Peach Wood Sword. He formed a spell with his hands, and the exorcism talisman at the sword's tip glowed red. Instantly, the sword radiated powerful spiritual energy. He wildly waved the sword and charged forward, shouting, “Let go of that girl! I’ll handle this!”
Fortunately, there was no one else in this alley; otherwise, people would surely think he was insane.
The leader of the Ox-Head demons glanced at Bai Zhuo with his large bovine eyes, filled with murderous intent as he shouted, “Who dares to disturb Yin Chai’s business? Retreat immediately! Those who defy orders will be killed without mercy!”
