My Tenant is a Female Ghost
As Leng Xuanhe finished his heartfelt song, the audience erupted in applause. He looked expectantly at Yang Liu, only to find that the girl who had captured his heart was not listening to him sing at all; instead, she was laughing with a man she had just met. He set down the microphone, his eyes filled with sorrow, but more than that, there was a glint of murderous intent.
Ge Shui Lian liked Leng Xuanhe, but her mind was occupied with thoughts of the Kagura Family. The KV Party had passed in a hasty and flavorless manner.
In the Southern Old District, there were not many people around, and it grew even colder at night. The gates of South City High School were tightly shut, and beside them stood a dilapidated security booth. The old streetlight flickered ominously, as if it might fall at any moment.
Bai Zhuo looked up, feeling an inexplicable anxiety. Perhaps it was because the Ghost Festival was approaching; he didn’t pay it much mind. Besides, the group of about ten people was lively enough.
“Everyone,” Leng Xuanhe announced, “let’s pair up in twos or threes or fours and split up to explore. I’ve already hidden many fun things around the school, including couple rings and diamond rings. These are all free gifts for you all; I hope you have a great time!”
Most of the students were couples or nearly so, so they eagerly complied.
Ning Lan was particularly excited as she grabbed Ge Shui Lian’s hand. “Lian Lian, I studied here in high school! It feels so good to be back at my alma mater; it’s not scary at all! Come on, let me show you Class 2 of Senior Year.” With that, she turned on the lights and ignored Bai Zhuo as she pulled Ge Shui Lian into the security booth.
With someone leading the way, the other students began to enter Southern High School. Leng Xuanhe and Yang Liu naturally paired up and walked into the school together, leaving Bai Zhuo standing alone under the streetlight outside.
“Bai Zhuo, it seems you’re alone. Do you need me to team up with you?” Kagura Keiha asked.
“No need, no need. I’m not interested in men; go on inside.”
“Bai Zhuo is quite interesting. I heard you’re Elder Ge’s new apprentice, yet you’re just an ordinary person without even an opened Yin-Yang Eye. But you give me a very mysterious vibe. I’d really like my sister to meet you—if only… if you still have a chance!” Kagura Keiha laughed as if joking, his right hand discreetly forming hand seals behind his back.
Suddenly, a chilling wind swept through the air as a powerful surge of Spiritual Energy emanated from behind Kagura Keiha. Bai Zhuo didn’t dislike this Japanese man but felt no particular fondness either. He took a cautious step back but was stunned by what he saw before him.
Behind Kagura Keiha, where there had been no one, suddenly appeared a White-Haired Woman. She wore a pure white outfit, her face pale, and her form ethereal, floating in mid-air, exuding an icy aura.
This was the scent of a ghost, and not just any ghost!
Bai Zhuo acted first, closing in and throwing a yellow Exorcism Talisman. Kagura Keiha retreated to advance, shooting out a grayish-white talisman from his hand. The talisman bore a Curse Seal, slicing through the Exorcism Talisman like a razor-sharp blade, hurtling towards Bai Zhuo with a whoosh.
Bai Zhuo's eyes narrowed as he easily dodged the incoming talisman. However, it suddenly split into five pieces behind him, changing direction and flying back toward him.
"All combatants assemble! Sword in Hand, command!" Bai Zhuo's expression changed drastically as he instinctively recited the Nine Character Mantra, quickly forming Hand Seals. The Sword in Hand unsheathed with a clang, ringing out as it thrust toward the flying talismans.
"Can you still see the Snow Woman? All combatants line up! Urgent Command!" Kagura Keiha also recited the Nine Character Mantra, but in Japanese. True to his lineage as a member of the Kagura Family, he manipulated the talismans while forming Hand Seals at a speed much faster than Bai Zhuo's, completing his technique ahead of time.
Kagura Keiha threw out three yellow talismans. "Word Spirit - Bind!" The talismans glowed blue and shot forward at incredible speed, sticking to Bai Zhuo in an instant.
"Not good!" Bai Zhuo hissed, reaching to tear off the talismans but found himself completely immobilized.
"Don't even think about escaping!" Kagura Keiha shouted as he pulled out a handful of yellow granules from his pocket—Fortune Beans. He bit his left index finger to draw blood and smeared it on the Fortune Beans before scattering them. Then he formed Hand Seals and chanted: "Yin souls Borrowing Method, scatter beans to create soldiers, Urgent Command!" The Fortune Beans he scattered withered and vanished at an observable speed upon touching the ground. Soon after, a mist enveloped Kagura Keiha.
Within moments, a chilling wind swept through, dispersing the mist to reveal dozens of fierce-looking ghosts glowing red beneath it!
"Go forth, my subordinates! Devour his soul! Snow Woman, Frost Barrier!"
Even in July's heat, the ground at Southern High School's entrance bizarrely froze over with a layer of frost! Kagura Keiha murmured: "In order to cooperate with Xuan He, I agreed to three of his requests. He just told me to kill you! This is his second request. Bai Zhuo, I will keep your soul; I will help you find peace."
At that moment, Bai Zhuo found himself in the midst of a snowy landscape, his blood seemingly frozen, as dozens of ghosts relentlessly battered at his consciousness and soul. He was on the verge of collapsing.
Having escaped from the jaws of the Taotie Ghost and not perishing at the hands of the Millennium Ghost, was he really going to die at the hands of humans tonight? Indeed, was it true that the most terrifying thing was not the ghosts, but the human heart? Bai Zhuo felt an overwhelming sense of unwillingness, but his consciousness was fading, and a hauntingly beautiful lullaby echoed in his mind, causing his head to throb painfully.
Just as he was about to lose his soul, a charming voice suddenly reached his ears.
"Ah, isn't this my landlord? Why do you look like you're about to die? Do you need help?" The voice belonged to Bai Zhuo's female ghost tenant—Su Meiniang!
Kagura Keiha was startled, and the Shikigami Snow Woman stepped protectively in front of him, her expression grave. "Master, her power surpasses mine; she is an enemy, not a friend. Be cautious!"
However, Kagura Keiha showed no fear; instead, her face lit up with excitement. "Your power has surpassed that of the Snow Woman! Become my Shikigami! I believe this is your best fate!"
Su Meiniang laughed in anger. "Hahaha! You little brat, do you think someone like me would ever be yours?"
She paused for a moment. The air around them thickened, time seemingly stood still at that instant. Suddenly, Su Meiniang's eyes glowed red with fury, and a wave of malevolent energy surged outward in all directions. The nearby streetlight was the first victim, shattering with a loud crack.
"Don't you dare harm my master!" The Snow Woman roared back fiercely as she struggled to open a barrier, barely managing to block Su Meiniang's malevolent force. After deflecting Su Meiniang's energy, the Snow Woman's expression grew weary; the frost on the ground began to dissipate, granting Bai Zhuo a momentary reprieve.
"Master, I can't hold on any longer; my spirit is fading!" The Snow Woman's figure vanished into thin air, leaving no trace of where she had gone. Meanwhile, Kagura Keiha's desire to possess Su Meiniang intensified even further.
