Having dinner with Elder Ge, Bai Zhuo felt the weight of countless disapproving glances. The meal was anything but comfortable; if it weren't for Elder Ge's insistence, he would have left long ago instead of enduring her scorn. 0

It wasn't until Ge Shui Lian ran off to play after dinner that Bai Zhuo finally breathed a sigh of relief. 0

The two buildings of Ge's Flower Shop belonged to Elder Ge, who led Bai Zhuo to a room on the rooftop. The room was filled with the scent of incense and adorned with numerous altars. 0

"Eighth Generation Ge Family Onmyoji, true disciple Ge Zhongxiang, pays respects to the ancestors. Ancestors above, today I accept the outsider disciple Bai Zhuo as my inner disciple..." After Elder Ge recited a lengthy incantation, Bai Zhuo followed her in lighting a stick of incense. From that moment on, he could consider himself a legitimate Onmyoji. 0

Bai Zhuo was not one to be overly sentimental. Kneeling before Elder Ge, he declared, "Disciple Bai Zhuo pays respects to Master!" He knocked his head three times on the ground. 0

"Good, good!" Elder Ge helped him up, her eyes crinkling with joy. 0

In truth, this was only the second time Bai Zhuo had met Elder Ge, yet for some reason, he felt an immense trust and respect for this unconventional master. Perhaps this was what they called charisma. 0

Suddenly, his phone buzzed with an incoming call that displayed no number, sending a chill down his spine. "Master, let me take this call." 0

He answered the phone and was greeted by an eerie static noise on the other end. 0

"Hey there, not bad at all; you're still alive." He had to admit that the female ghost's voice was quite pleasant. 0

Bai Zhuo retorted irritably, "Even if you died, I wouldn't! What do you want?" 0

"You really are heartless... I can't wait any longer; I need to rent a house! I'll come find you tonight!" 0

Bai Zhuo thought about how Lin Yaoyao was still living at home. If the female ghost showed up late at night, she would surely be terrified. He hurriedly replied, "Not tonight! How about tomorrow? Tomorrow!" 0

To his surprise, the female ghost suddenly switched to speakerphone and whined playfully, "No~ I want to come tonight! I'll be waiting for you~" 0

Click~ Beep beep beep... The call ended abruptly. Bai Zhuo looked awkwardly at Elder Ge. "M-Master, this is..." 0

Elder Ge was in high spirits after officially accepting Bai Zhuo as her disciple that evening. "Youth is wonderful... You can go home tonight; come back tomorrow to see me. But remember, young man, moderation is key!" 0

Bai Zhuo found it hard to argue as he stared at Elder Ge's back, opening his mouth but ultimately letting out a deep sigh—if only he had known not to offend that female ghost from the start. 0

After bidding farewell to Elder Ge, Bai Zhuo boarded the last bus of the night, heading home. 0

It was past ten o'clock. In the last row of the bus sat a woman cradling a child. The woman appeared somewhat thin, her head bowed as if she were asleep, her slightly disheveled black hair covering her cheeks, instantly evoking thoughts of a ghost. Bai Zhuo was almost certain that she was indeed a ghost; he glanced at her a few times before quickly averting his gaze, not wanting to get involved. 0

The woman remained motionless with her head down. Bai Zhuo sat in front, and the silence in the bus felt eerie, prompting him to strike up a conversation with the driver. "Driver, your job must be tough, having to drive so late." 0

The driver was happy to have someone to talk to and replied, "Who isn't? It's quite tiring, sitting for so many trips. Sometimes like tonight, even if it's an empty bus, I still have to drive out from the station. No choice; it's all for the people, haha." 0

Empty bus? Just as he thought! It seemed he needed to make another pair of glasses soon; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to tell humans from ghosts. Bai Zhuo thought this and instinctively glanced back at the woman in the rear seat, but she was gone! Turning to look beside him, he gasped! She had already settled next to him. Although Bai Zhuo was an Onmyoji, he still felt uneasy about such eerie things. 0

"Can you see me?" The ghostly woman's voice was ethereal yet trembled slightly—whether it was intentional or not remained unclear. 0

Bai Zhuo stiffened his neck, making an effort not to look at her or acknowledge her presence. He turned back to the driver and said, "Driver, driving a bus is indeed tough, but your salary must be decent?" 0

The driver replied, "Ah, it's just a way to make a living... You must be a college student, right? The atmosphere in Ningcheng has been strange lately, and there are con artists everywhere; it's not safe. You should head home early." 0

"Oh, I see. Thank you for the warning," Bai Zhuo guessed it might be related to the upcoming competition in the Yin Yang Realm in a week. The ghost sitting next to him noticed that Bai Zhuo was ignoring her; she tossed aside her long hair, revealing a horrifying face with blood oozing from seven orifices. Her blood-red fangs bared at Bai Zhuo as she lunged toward him, releasing a foul odor. 0

Bai Zhuo struggled to keep silent; he feared that if he screamed, it would startle the driver and lead to an accident. 0

"Hey buddy, where are you getting off?" 0

"At New Xin Grand Hotel." 0

"Alright… Huh? Buddy, do you smell something foul? Like something rotten… Strange; I just washed the bus this afternoon." 0

"No! There's no smell at all!" Bai Zhuo hurriedly denied it. 0
Bai Zhuo ignored the female ghost. However, she was relentless, reaching out to grab Bai Zhuo by the neck. Bai Zhuo wasn’t about to let her succeed. He pushed against the ghost's head, keeping her at bay, while inwardly cursing the female ghost from earlier that night who wanted to rent a house. If it weren't for her, Bai Zhuo would have been staying at Elder Ge's place tonight and wouldn’t have encountered such a disgusting situation. 0

The bus came to a stop at a red light. The driver sensed something unusual behind him and glanced at the rearview mirror. Bai Zhuo was startled and quickly withdrew his hand, urgently calling out, “Don’t look in the mirror!” But it was too late. 0

Surprisingly, the driver showed no reaction and looked at Bai Zhuo with confusion. 0

“Uh, sorry, it’s nothing… Just focus on driving, please.” 0

It turned out to be a false alarm; it seemed this ghost hadn’t been practicing for more than a hundred years—she couldn’t even be considered a true ghost, just a wandering spirit. 0

Earlier in the afternoon, Bai Zhuo had an enlightening conversation with Elder Ge, who explained various classifications of ghosts and their general hierarchy. Bai Zhuo learned that after death, one enters a state known as "spirit," commonly referred to as the soul. Those who died with deep resentment or unexpectedly might linger without guidance from the Underworld; their souls could either scatter or transform into ghosts. 0

Ghosts that have practiced for a hundred years are called "ghosts"; those over two hundred years are referred to as "Great Ghosts"; and spirits that have practiced for over five hundred years are known as "Evil Spirits." At this stage, if an Evil Spirit harms someone, ordinary people can see its shadow in mirrors. 0

“What about a thousand-year-old ghost?” Bai Zhuo asked. Elder Ge replied, “That would be a Millennium Ghost Spirit, also known as a ‘Ghost Immortal.’ Even my grandfather’s grandfather has never seen one. If you encounter a Millennium Ghost Spirit, just pray for your safety.” Hearing this from Elder Ge made Bai Zhuo abandon his previous curiosity about what a Millennium Ghost looked like. 0

After Bai Zhuo pushed away the female ghost, she stopped bothering him and sat quietly beside him. Half an hour later, when he reached his bus stop, he jumped off and ran away as if his life depended on it. It wasn’t until he reached his front door that he finally caught his breath and muttered under his breath, “What a damn hassle! Is it really so hard to be an ordinary person? At least I’ve finally shaken her off.” 0

Little did he know, the female ghost had been following closely behind him all along… 0
