The next day, Jiang Liu woke up from his dreams, greeted by the sight of a white Flower Panel.
He stared blankly for a moment, his mind slowly clearing. Turning to look at the familiar arrangement of his room, Jiang Liu finally recognized it as his own, though he couldn't recall how he had returned there the night before.
"The side effects are getting more dangerous," he sighed softly as he gazed at the Flower Panel.
Recalling the events of the previous day, when Lin Mei Mei had suddenly gone missing, Jiang Liu remembered how he had been forced to use another type of memory mode in a moment of desperation. What he hadn't anticipated was the severe side effects that followed; his mental state had nearly collapsed on the spot. Even though he had gritted his teeth and pushed through until the mission ended, he felt as if he were half-dead.
Reflecting on the several incidents he had experienced before, Jiang Liu wondered how much longer he could endure. It was possible that during a future event, he might lose consciousness from overusing that ability and quietly vanish from this world.
With such thoughts, a bitter smile appeared on Jiang Liu's face. He moved his weak limbs and slowly got out of bed; after sleeping for so long, his stomach was already growling with hunger.
As soon as he entered the living room, Jiang Liu saw Wang Chao, Lin Mei Mei, Senmu, and Dream Sister sitting at the dining table discussing something.
Upon noticing Jiang Liu waking up, Wang Chao immediately became excited and pointed at him. "Dream Sister, everything I said before was true! If you don't believe me, ask Jiang Liu! If I hadn't stepped up back then, who knows what would have happened to Lin Mei Mei!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Wang Chao let out a yelp; Lin Mei Mei had stomped hard on the top of his foot.
Ignoring their antics, Senmu walked over to inquire about Jiang Liu's well-being.
"How are you feeling? You looked pale when you came back last night and went straight to your room without saying a word."
Jiang Liu shook his head with a smile. "I'm fine now. I just felt really tired yesterday; after a good sleep, I'm almost back to normal. It's just that I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable from hunger."
"Perfect timing! It's almost mealtime. I'll go get the dishes ready."
Dream Sister stood up from her chair and gestured for Jiang Liu to find a place to sit down. He didn't hesitate and took a seat while watching Wang Chao and Lin Mei Mei bicker with each other.
"I heard about your experiences from Wang Chao. Thank you so much for taking care of Lin Mei Mei," Senmu said sincerely as he sat next to Jiang Liu.
"You don't need to be so polite. I should actually be thanking Lin Mei Mei; without her hints, I wouldn't have been able to deduce things so smoothly."
"In any case, if it weren't for you, Wang Chao and Lin Mei Mei wouldn't have returned safely."
"Can you two stop being so dramatic?" Wang Chao interrupted from the side.
Hearing Wang Chao's words, Senmu felt a bit out of place and smiled, deciding not to say anything further. At that moment, Dream Sister walked out of the kitchen carrying dishes, inviting everyone to eat.
Thus, the meal continued in a lively atmosphere.
Once they finished eating, Dream Sister sat in her chair, looking at the others with a serious expression. "Since everyone has returned safely, I need to tell you something important."
As soon as she said this, the previously cheerful atmosphere suddenly turned serious. Wang Chao looked at Dream Sister's grave expression and asked, "Dream Sister, what is it that makes you so serious?"
Jiang Liu glanced at the equally solemn Senmu, guessing that he might know something as well, and turned to Dream Sister, waiting for her to continue.
"This matter concerns our next paranormal event."
"Our next paranormal event?" Wang Chao asked curiously. "Do you already know what it's about, Dream Sister?"
Jiang Liu picked up on another implication in Dream Sister's words and looked at her. "Dream Sister, when you say 'our,' does that mean everyone will have to participate in the next paranormal event?"
Dream Sister wasn't surprised that Jiang Liu could catch the underlying meaning of her words. She nodded. "You're right; the next paranormal mission requires all of us to participate."
"Dream Sister, how can this be? Why is a team mission coming up so soon?" Wang Chao exclaimed in disbelief.
"I’m not sure about that either. I received this notification while you were on your mission," Dream Sister said, noticing everyone's serious expressions. "However, since the mission has been assigned, what we need to focus on now is how to navigate this team paranormal event."
"Dream Sister, may I ask what a team paranormal event is?" Jiang Liu asked, having never heard the term before.
"I'll answer that for you," Senmu said at this moment. "A team paranormal event is when one or several teams work together on a single event. One thing to clarify is that no newcomers will be involved in these events. This means that everyone participating has experienced at least one paranormal event before."
"So if everyone has at least survived one paranormal event, doesn't that mean we just need to cooperate?" Jiang Liu suggested.
"You still don't understand what a team mission entails," Senmu replied, looking into Jiang Liu's eyes. "In a team event, each team's mission may be different; two teams might need to complete different tasks to conclude the event. Moreover, the difficulty of the team event increases with the number of participating teams."
"Senmu, let me explain the next part to Jiang Liu," Dream Sister suddenly interjected.
"Okay," Senmu nodded in agreement.
“Jiang Liu, I remember when you first arrived here, you asked me about some matters regarding the Ghost Realm. At that time, I shared with you the significant events that occurred over a decade ago. Do you still recall any of it?”
“Yes, I remember. You mentioned that due to a team’s mistake, hundreds of people were affected back then,” Jiang Liu replied with a nod.
“That’s correct. That incident was indeed caused by a team mission. Now you understand the dangers of team missions, right?”
Jiang Liu nodded and pondered for a moment before asking, “So does that mean our next mission location will be in the real world?”
Dream Sister shook her head. “No, our next mission location is in the Otherworld, also known as the Edge World.”
For some reason, upon hearing this answer, Jiang Liu felt a wave of relief wash over him.
After waiting for a while and seeing that Jiang Liu had no further questions, Dream Sister turned her attention to the others present.
“Does anyone else have any questions?”
“Dream Sister, may I ask how many teams will be participating in this event?” Wang Chao spoke up at that moment.
“Three!”
