Horror Chapter
"Who gave you the right to speak to me like that?"
Jiang Liu's voice asked again, still carrying that oppressive dominance.
"Alright, alright, Lin Dahai didn't mean it. Jiang Liu, please don't be angry anymore," Wang Ke's voice chimed in.
"I'm not angry; I'm just puzzled. How can an ant dare to speak to me like this?"
"Well, speaking of which, Jiang Liu, why were you staring at that door earlier?" Wang Ke shifted the topic.
"It's nothing, just a feeling. It seemed like there was something in that room."
"Oh, I see. Should we take a look?" Wang Ke inquired.
"No need. The event is about to conclude; let's just keep moving forward." The domineering Jiang Liu paused for a moment. "And Lin Dahai, I hope that was the last time. If there's a next time, you know the consequences."
"Yes, I'm sorry."
"Let's continue."
The sound of footsteps resumed until Jiang Liu could no longer hear them. He then quietly asked, "Were those people outside really us?"
"What's wrong? Can't believe it?" Wang Ke's teasing voice echoed in the darkness.
"Well, aren't we from different timelines? But if that's the case, why do things develop differently? I remember our conversation when we arrived on the third floor was nothing like this!"
"I never said the events in different timelines are different," Wang Ke explained. "Just like the conversation we just heard, our positions in this timeline are reversed. No one dares to refute your words; it must be related to your personality in this timeline."
"Can a person's personality change in different timelines?" Jiang Liu asked, puzzled. "Doesn't that mean that aside from looking the same, people from two timelines aren't really the same person?"
"No, although the timelines are different, a person's character and attitude remain consistent. You're just an exception. I've seen you in other timelines, and your personality varies in each one—unpredictable."
Jiang Liu sensed that Wang Ke was looking at him as he spoke, but the darkness of the room was so absolute that even though they were close, he could see nothing but shadows.
"So you're saying that the reason every timeline develops differently is because of me?" Jiang Liu asked after a moment of silence.
Wang Ke didn't answer and changed the subject. "Alright, they've left. We can go out now."
After opening the door, Wang Ke cautiously peeked outside. When he saw no one was around, he waved for Jiang Liu to come out.
Jiang Liu stepped out with the unresponsive Sun Ting beside him and looked at Wang Ke. "You still haven't answered my earlier question."
"Didn't you already have your answer? Why ask me again?" Wang Ke glanced at the oblivious Sun Ting. "Emotions are a burden in supernatural events; someone who has lived multiple lives now feels as lifeless as a corpse."
Jiang Liu fell silent for a moment, then looked at Sun Ting. "Do you know her relationship with Xu Hai?"
Wang Ke let out a light laugh, "At this point, if you still can't tell I'm blind, then I admire Xu Hai. That guy basically ensures this woman meets her end every time, and she dies without a complaint."
Upon hearing the familiar name, Sun Ting reacted slightly, murmuring to herself, "Xu Hai, Xu Hai."
Seeing the lifeless expression on Sun Ting's face, Jiang Liu sighed, "What should we do next? Should we follow them?"
"How can you follow with someone like this?" Wang Ke retorted. "Besides, they will eventually come back. We should head down and prepare."
"Prepare for what?" Jiang Liu asked, puzzled.
"Of course, for the final preparation. Once we return this time, everything will have its outcome."
Wang Ke said something that Jiang Liu couldn't understand but chose not to press further, walking ahead alone. Jiang Liu looked at the unresponsive Sun Ting and felt uncertain about what to do.
Sun Ting's current state resembled that of a corpse. Carrying her might drag him down, but thinking of the pleading look Xu Hai had given him earlier made Jiang Liu unable to abandon her at this moment; leaving Sun Ting behind would only lead to her death.
Watching Wang Ke's figure grow distant, Jiang Liu realized that this guy wouldn't help him. He recalled Li Lin and Xu Qian and cursed under his breath before hoisting Sun Ting onto his back and straining to catch up with Wang Ke.
Walking at the front, Wang Ke heard Jiang Liu's heavy footsteps behind him and a self-deprecating smile appeared on his face.
