Horror Chapter
Wang Ke pointed to the open door of a room in the hall and explained, "We each woke up in our own rooms. Now there are four of us. I just counted, and there are seven rooms in total in this hall. So, there should be three more people besides us."
"Could it be that the event did this on purpose?" Jiang Liu interjected at that moment.
Wang Ke shook his head. "No, the event wouldn't go through such unnecessary trouble. Besides, past experiences tell me that what seems unnecessary often hides some clues."
"What about the other three? Why did they leave without waiting for us?" Xu Meng asked.
"There are two possibilities: either they encountered something sudden and couldn't find us in time, or they intentionally left us behind," Wang Ke said with a frown. "Regardless of which possibility it is, they must have gone to the upper floor. We are likely to encounter them soon, so everyone stay alert."
The three nodded in agreement. Realizing that this incident involved more than just the four of them made them walk even more cautiously.
As they approached the stairs leading to the second floor, they noticed an elevator. However, none of them had the desire to take it, unaware that elevators are often places where ghosts frequently appear in horror films.
Jiang Liu felt an inexplicable fear towards the stairs. In previous incidents, he had encountered ghosts most often on staircases, making him visibly tense as they moved through the stairwell.
Fortunately, nothing strange happened within the building, and they safely arrived on the second floor of the hospital.
The second floor was filled with numerous corridors; every few steps led to another branching hallway, resembling a maze. What struck them as odd was that after traversing so many corridors, they had yet to find a single patient room. Both sides were lined with solid white walls, creating an oppressive atmosphere as they walked through.
At that moment, Lin Dahai couldn't help but speak up. "Are we walking in circles? It feels like we're back where we started."
Wang Ke stopped and touched the white wall. "No, we haven't gone back; it's just that this place is so similar that it gives you the illusion of returning to where we started."
"Isn't this too similar?" Lin Dahai kicked the white wall, leaving his footprint on it, frustrated. "Which hospital can be transformed like this?"
"Since this is a hospital in a supernatural event, let's not link it to real hospitals. We should hurry and get out of here while nothing has happened," Wang Ke urged.
Lin Dahai muttered his dissatisfaction but fell silent, continuing to follow Wang Ke.
As they turned a corner, the four of them stopped in shock at the scene before them.
In the hallway ahead hung a corpse, already decayed to the point of being just a skeleton. The clothes were tattered beyond recognition, making it impossible to discern its original appearance.
The four stared intently at the dried-up body, fearing it might suddenly come back to life and attack them. But after waiting for a while, the corpse remained still, quietly suspended in the air.
At that moment, Wang Ke stepped forward quietly and examined the body closely before turning to the three behind him. "From the bones, it appears to be a female corpse, and it has been dead for quite some time."
"Could it be one of those three people who walked ahead of us?" Xu Meng speculated.
"It shouldn't be. The corpse has been dead for a long time, while our supernatural event has only just begun. The level of decay wouldn't happen so quickly," Wang Ke shook his head, countering Xu Meng's theory. After a moment's thought, he added, "We've been walking here for so long without noticing anything unusual. Now that a long-dead corpse has suddenly appeared, I think it must be some kind of hint."
"Could it be like in movies where an ancient tomb has a corpse hanging as a warning that those who proceed will surely die?" Lin Dahai asked as he approached the body, looking at Wang Ke.
"That's possible, but do we have any choice now?" Wang Ke replied, gazing at the eerie corpse. "Regardless of what it signifies, we must continue moving forward."
Seeing Wang Ke lead the way toward the corpse, the three of them held their breath in tension. It wasn't until Wang Ke safely passed the body that they finally relaxed, carefully avoiding the corpse.
At the moment Jiang Liu passed by the body, he felt a faint sense of familiarity from the clothes on it. However, upon closer inspection, he realized the clothing was still tattered.
Wang Ke noticed Jiang Liu staring at the corpse, seemingly frozen in place. He walked over and asked curiously, "Did you find something?"
"Nothing much, just that this corpse looks somewhat familiar," Jiang Liu replied with his impression.
"Familiar? I don't see anything familiar about it," Lin Dahai said.
"Maybe it's just that I've seen someone with a similar build before, so it feels a bit familiar," Jiang Liu scratched his head. "Or maybe I just misjudged."
Lin Dahai found Jiang Liu's later explanation more believable and urged the two to hurry and leave this eerie place.
Wang Ke patted Jiang Liu on the shoulder. "You might have just misseen it. This place is so strange; let's get out of here first."
Hearing Wang Ke's words, Jiang Liu felt that he might indeed have misjudged and didn't dwell on it further. The four of them quickened their pace to leave.
Perhaps due to having seen the corpse, their steps noticeably quickened compared to before. To everyone's surprise, after turning a few corners, they actually spotted the staircase leading to the third floor.
