Life is often filled with numerous joys and sorrows, much like how sometimes the trajectory of life is beyond one's control.
At this moment, Jiang Liu could deeply understand these words as he stood in front of H University, watching the students passing by. A sense of confusion surged from the depths of his heart, and Wang Chao's words seemed to echo in his ears.
"You are no longer an ordinary person; you can’t live like one anymore. Are you willing to leave with me? Think it over; I’ll wait for your answer."
After pondering for a long time, Jiang Liu felt that Wang Chao was right. From the moment he encountered supernatural events, he was no longer an ordinary person—or perhaps he was even more pitiful than an ordinary person. Since he was no longer ordinary, he should completely distance himself from the life of an ordinary person.
Having made his decision, he took out his phone and found a string of numbers. At the moment of deletion, he hesitated but ultimately pressed confirm.
After deleting it, he found Wang Chao's number and dialed it. It wasn’t long before the call connected, and Wang Chao's voice came through.
"Have you figured it out?"
"Yes, but I have a question for you."
"What question?"
"Where are we going?"
"Where are we going? That’s a good question." Wang Chao's tone shifted immediately. "Of course, you'll only know once we get there."
Jiang Liu was momentarily speechless and helplessly shook his head. "Just give me an address; I’ll come find you."
"The street number. And remember to bring me some food when you come; I haven’t left the house in days and nearly starved to death."
Before Jiang Liu could respond, Wang Chao hung up, leaving only the sound of a dial tone in his ear.
Jiang Liu put his phone away and took one last look at H University before stepping forward, his figure moving on without a trace of nostalgia.
On the way, he bought a bowl of rice with toppings. Following the address given by Wang Chao, Jiang Liu turned and twisted until he arrived at a narrow alley, standing in front of a house with a red wooden door.
“Knock, knock.”
“Coming, coming, Jiang Liu?” came Wang Chao's voice from the other side of the door.
“It’s me.”
Upon hearing the response, the red wooden door opened. The moment Jiang Liu saw Wang Chao, he could hardly recognize him. The man before him was unkempt, with a face full of stubble.
Noticing Jiang Liu's surprised expression, Wang Chao awkwardly rubbed his chin, where the stubble had grown to about a centimeter long. “Sorry, I haven’t shaved in a while. Don’t mind that for now; come in.”
With that, he snatched the bowl of rice from Jiang Liu's hands and ran back inside to dig in.
“I haven’t seen you for just a few days, and you look like a different person!”
Jiang Liu stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. Once inside, he realized that the entire place resembled a dog’s den. Clothes were strewn everywhere—on the sofa, on the concrete floor, and over the chairs.
He tossed the clothes from a chair onto the sofa and sat down in front of Wang Chao with an expression of disdain. “I didn’t realize you were this messy.”
“Well, I’ve been on a mission,” Wang Chao replied between mouthfuls of rice. “Besides, I won’t be here for long anyway. We’re heading out to meet up with others soon. When that time comes, I’ll just throw on some clothes and leave; who would even notice me?”
“From your tone, it sounds like this is a temporary place?”
“Of course! What else would it be?”
"Are you not studying at H University as well? Why aren't you living in the dorms and instead running out to find a place to stay?" Jiang Liu asked, puzzled.
"Are you stupid or am I? Which of your eyes saw me studying at H University?"
"You're not a student at H University? Then how did you end up in the classroom?" Jiang Liu exclaimed in surprise.
Wang Chao didn't even look up as he replied, "Did I not just tell you? I was on a mission, which is why I went to H University."
"I don't understand."
Wang Chao paused his frantic eating, lifted his head to glance at Jiang Liu a few times, and suddenly feigned realization.
"Oh, I almost forgot. You're a novice who knows little about supernatural events. How about this: you can sleep here tonight, and I'll give you a crash course. That way, when Dream Sister comes, I won't have failed to prepare the newcomer."
"Wait a minute, who is Dream Sister? What do you mean by preparing the newcomer?"
"It means exactly what it sounds like." Wang Chao shoved the last few bites of food into his mouth and lit a cigarette. "Dream Sister is the leader of our team. As for preparing the newcomer, it means that you're now part of our team, so I have an obligation to inform you about some precautions regarding supernatural events."
"Why does the word 'team' keep coming up? Are there other teams?"
"Of course. But let's not get into team matters right now; you shouldn't encounter such events yet. When we go back, someone will naturally inform you. For now, let’s focus on your own issues."
Jiang Liu looked down at his body; he didn't see any problems! What did Wang Chao mean by that?
Seeing Jiang Liu's confused expression, Wang Chao exhaled a puff of smoke and said seriously, "Did you not tell Lin Feng about the supernatural events before?"
"That's right, but you know how that situation was," Jiang Liu frowned.
Wang Chao stubbed out his cigarette on the table. "I know that, but so what? Do you think the taboos surrounding supernatural events can be casually violated?"
"Just tell me what the consequences will be," Jiang Liu asked directly.
"The consequence is that the next supernatural event you will experience is an Interdimensional Supernatural Incident, which means you will be going to the Edge World to complete a mission."
As soon as he heard "Edge World," Jiang Liu recalled the experience at the hotel, and the sight of Li Lin and Xu Qian's deaths flashed before his eyes once again.
Wang Chao noticed Jiang Liu was in a daze and thought he had been scared silly. He called out to him a few times to snap him back to reality, then scoffed, "Now you understand the seriousness of it, right?"
"Edge World doesn't seem as serious as you make it out to be," Jiang Liu replied, regaining his composure.
Wang Chao nearly choked on his smoke at Jiang Liu's words. After finally catching his breath, he pointed at Jiang Liu and cursed loudly, the burning tip of his cigarette almost touching Jiang Liu's hair.
"You think Edge World isn't as serious as I say? Do you even know what you're talking about? Do you know how many people have died in Edge World? Wait a minute!"
As Wang Chao was ranting, he seemed to remember something and looked at Jiang Liu in surprise. "You mentioned Interdimensional Supernatural Incident back in the escape room. I didn't pay attention at the time, but now that I think about it, how do you know about Otherworld, which is Edge World?"
"I've experienced this kind of incident twice; counting this one, it should be my third time," Jiang Liu answered honestly.
Wang Chao trembled all over and lost his balance, falling off his chair. He stared at Jiang Liu in shock, unable to speak for a long time.
