Horror Chapter
This time, the lights went out just as suddenly as before, without any warning.
By the time Jiang Liu realized what was happening, darkness had already enveloped the surroundings. For some reason, this sudden darkness sent a chill down his spine, as if a sinister, terrifying gaze was fixated on him from the shadows.
Every hair on his body stood on end; in that moment, fear coursed through every pore of his being, causing him to tremble uncontrollably. He desperately tried to ignore this overwhelming sense of dread.
But it was futile; the immense fear loomed over him like a dark cloud.
He had no idea how long it had been. Just when Jiang Liu thought he could no longer hold on and was about to break down, that terrifying gaze finally vanished from him, and with it, the fear dissipated. The lights flickered back on.
However, before Jiang Liu could relax, he heard Glasses Man suddenly exclaim from not far ahead, “Li Nan! Where did Li Nan go?”
Startled, Jiang Liu looked up towards Glasses Man and noticed that the other boy who should have been standing beside him was now nowhere to be seen.
The crowd quickly caught on to this phenomenon and erupted into chaos.
At that moment, a boy stepped out from the crowd, brandishing a knife with its tip pointed at Jiang Liu and the others in terror. “It’s you! You did this!”
All eyes turned to focus on the three of them.
Jiang Liu felt a sinking feeling in his heart as he met the crowd's gaze. He quickly explained, “Please calm down! We’ve been standing right here without moving; how could it possibly be us?”
"How could it not be you? Ever since you appeared here, Li Nan has disappeared. You brought the ghost here!"
The words of the Knife-Wielding Boy once again directed everyone's suspicious gazes toward Jiang Liu and his companions. In that moment, Knife-Wielding Boy's words sparked a terrifying thought in Jiang Liu's mind.
This place did not seem to be the final destination as Jiang Liu had believed, and this cage-like chamber was not meant to trap everyone.
Once that thought took root, it became entrenched in his mind, impossible to shake off.
At that moment, Wang Chao could no longer hold back. He pointed at Knife-Wielding Boy and retorted, "By your logic, I could say you're the ghost. It was you who turned off the lights and made Li Nan disappear when you saw us trying to explain."
The word "disappear" hung heavily in the air; everyone present understood what it meant, but in such a bizarre atmosphere, no one dared to utter it.
As Wang Chao and the Knife-Wielding Boy grew more intense, signs of a physical confrontation loomed.
Both Smiling Man and Jiang Liu stepped in to stop them. Jiang Liu looked at Smiling Man: "I think Wang Chao has a point. I'm not saying this classmate is the murderer, but our earlier deductions might be close to the truth of the matter, which is why the ghost couldn't help but act."
Smiling Man nodded in agreement. "I agree with your reasoning. Otherwise, the ghost wouldn't have waited until we were halfway through our speculation to strike."
"So do we continue or what?"
"Continue. The more the ghost behaves like this, the more it means we are on the right track."
Smiling Man's expression shifted from a smile as he glanced at the restless crowd behind him before turning back to Jiang Liu: "Although I share your view, they..."
"I estimate that they won't believe anything I say right now. It would be better if you explained it to them; it would benefit both of us," Jiang Liu suggested.
The Smiling Man thought this made sense and pulled the Knife-Wielding Boy back into the crowd. After some time, he returned alone to Jiang Liu. It was unclear what he had discussed with the others, but the crowd had first erupted into noise before settling down, and finally, the Smiling Man stood before Jiang Liu.
"They agreed, but due to what just happened, they are unwilling to step out of the crowd, so I came alone to hear your explanation," the Smiling Man explained with a smile.
"Are you not afraid that next time the lights go out, it will be your turn to disappear?" Jiang Liu asked.
"If I disappear next time, it would just mean I had bad luck. And once I vanish, I think the one who will have trouble next is you," the Smiling Man said, pointing at the crowd behind him. "I believe that aside from me wanting to hear your explanation, no one else is as calm as I am."
Jiang Liu glanced at the crowd behind the Smiling Man and sighed inwardly. He felt that even if this group didn't perish in this supernatural event, they would likely meet their end in the next one.
Every face in the crowd was filled with fear of ghosts and deities, showing no sign of a desire to survive.
The survival instinct Jiang Liu referred to meant being able to think calmly about an escape plan in the face of any adversity, rather than being indecisive and showing only fear without any hope.
So far, he had only seen this desire in two people: one was the elderly Wang Chao, and the other was the Smiling Man standing before him.
