Horror Chapter
"Based on our previous assumptions, if the way out is correct, then it means there is someone in this room who is a ghost in disguise. I believe this classmate should have no objections, right?"
"No," the Eyed Man nodded in agreement with Jiang Liu's deduction.
"Good, with that as a premise, I have a question for you. How do you think the ghost has blended in among us?" Jiang Liu suddenly asked the Glasses Man.
The Eyed Man clearly had not thought about this question before; after a moment of hesitation, he shook his head to indicate he didn't know.
Jiang Liu continued, "I have two views on this matter. The first is that the ghost has replaced one of us and blended in among us. In other words, one of us was killed by the ghost during the incident and then replaced."
At this point, Jiang Liu subtly glanced at the crowd behind the Glasses Man. The Glasses Man noticed Jiang Liu's gesture; his smile stiffened for a moment but quickly returned to calm as he gestured for Jiang Liu to continue.
"If the ghost used this method to blend in among us, the solution would be simple: we just need to find out which classmate joined us midway."
"According to your theory, I believe there’s a high possibility that the three of you are the culprits," the Glasses Man said, looking at Jiang Liu and his companions.
"No, on the contrary, I think the likelihood of a ghost being among you is much higher," Jiang Liu shook his head.
"Why is that?"
"Because the three of us know each other well. It would be very difficult for a ghost to become one of us; as soon as they show even a slight flaw, the other two would notice. But for you all, it’s not necessarily the same. Given the number of people here, can you be sure you know everyone?"
Jiang Liu's words detonated like a bomb in the crowd. What once seemed like an unbreakable alliance was now teetering on the brink of collapse, as a seed of doubt was planted in everyone's hearts.
Wang Chao understood Jiang Liu's intention; this was an attempt to divide the opposing group.
Due to the severe imbalance in numbers, Jiang Liu had realized from the very beginning that they were at an absolute disadvantage. No matter how they argued or proved themselves, it would not dispel the opposing group's wariness, for in their minds, Jiang Liu and his companions were outsiders.
This was something that Jiang Liu, who preferred to take the initiative, could not tolerate. Thus, at the start of the conversation, he subtly steered the topic toward the crowd, inciting mutual suspicion among them.
The effect was evident; as the crowd began to murmur restlessly, it became clear that each person was starting to doubt one another.
Glasses Man also recognized Jiang Liu's scheme but couldn't help but agree that Jiang Liu had a point.
At least logically speaking, it made sense. He had always harbored doubts about certain individuals in the crowd, so he continued to ask, "What is your second viewpoint?"
"To be honest, this possibility seems almost unsolvable to me," Jiang Liu explained with a bitter smile. "Suppose a ghost has always been among us, but it doesn't replace anyone; instead, it hides among us under another identity. What kind of situation would allow us all to remain unaware of this additional person?"
Glasses Man's expression changed slightly; the smile faded from his face, replaced by a stiff look. "Memory alteration?"
"Exactly. Our memories have been tampered with. At first, I thought this idea was absurd, but after hearing about your supernatural events, I began to consider that this possibility might exist."
Glasses Man realized the terrifying implications of this possibility and spoke with a hint of panic. "If that's the case, then finding that ghost would be nearly impossible."
"Not entirely impossible," Jiang Liu shook his head and explained. "Things have dual aspects; while memory alteration sounds unsolvable, upon closer examination, there are also inconsistencies in this method."
Just as Jiang Liu was about to share some of his speculations with Glasses Man, the lights above flickered a few times, and then the familiar darkness enveloped them once again.
