Horror Chapter
After hearing Jiang Liu's words, Lin Feng hesitated. He was contemplating the different consequences of two choices.
It felt as if there was a great door standing before him, and with a simple decision, another unknown side of the world would reveal itself. The only uncertainty was whether he could bear the outcome.
Initially, Lin Feng thought he would take a long time to make a choice, but to his surprise, just over ten seconds later, Jiang Liu heard his answer.
"I want to know what this is all about."
In the end, Lin Feng chose the first option that Jiang Liu had presented.
Once he made his choice, he no longer dwelled on whether he would regret it, instead focusing intently on Jiang Liu's eyes, waiting for his response.
"First of all, congratulations on making the right choice."
It was a congratulation, yet Lin Feng saw no trace of joy on Jiang Liu's face; instead, he detected a hint of sorrow in Jiang Liu's calm gaze.
Due to time constraints, Jiang Liu briefly recounted the supernatural events to Lin Feng. As Jiang Liu continued his narration, a strange and absurd world gradually unfolded before him.
When Lin Feng came to his senses, he realized that his entire body was drenched in cold sweat without him even noticing. A gentle breeze swept through, and an eerie chill enveloped him.
Over twenty years of scientific worldview shattered in an instant. He wanted to tell Jiang Liu that all of this was nonsense, but the bizarre events occurring now reminded him that everything Jiang Liu said was true.
"Can you guarantee that everything you said is real?" Lin Feng asked stubbornly in one last struggle.
Jiang Liu looked at Lin Feng with pleading eyes and sighed, ready to respond when he was interrupted by Wang Chao, who had been watching from behind.
"I really don’t want to interrupt your conversation," Wang Chao said while pointing behind him, "but it seems like the situation has changed."
Jiang Liu turned to follow Wang Chao's gesture and noticed that at some point, a faint white light had appeared in the previously dark corridor behind Wang Chao. The three of them were drawn to this sudden light.
"When did this white light appear?" Jiang Liu squinted at the brightness and asked.
"I don't know; I just turned around and it was already there. It must have appeared while you two were talking," Lin Feng paused before asking, "What should we do now? Continue your conversation or...?"
"Let's go see what's ahead; it would be best if it's an exit," Jiang Liu said, glancing at Lin Feng, whose face looked a bit pale. "What's wrong with you?"
"Let's deal with the supernatural events after we get out of here," Lin Feng replied. He didn't want to remain in this dark corridor any longer; who knew when a ghost might suddenly appear from the shadows and kill him?
Seeing that Lin Feng had no objections, the three of them stopped delaying and gritted their teeth as they ran toward the white light. As the light grew brighter, their hearts began to race with anxiety.
Lin Feng seemed to envision bright sunlight and classmates strolling along the campus paths. He vowed that if he could escape this damned corridor, he would sincerely pray and do good deeds, committing to one good act until his death, hoping that this way he wouldn't end up in the depths of hell after he passed away.
In contrast to Lin Feng's hopeful fantasies, Jiang Liu felt a twinge of unease as the white light drew nearer; it seemed to be guiding them toward a specific destination.
At the moment they burst out of the corridor, a phrase suddenly flashed through Jiang Liu's mind: "It is often darkest before dawn."
The blinding white light illuminated them, making it difficult to see their surroundings. Once their eyes adjusted, the scene before them left all three of them stunned.
There was no bright sunlight as Lin Feng had imagined, nor was there any bloody scene that Jiang Liu had feared—only the astonished gazes of a dozen classmates.
"What... what is going on here?" Wang Chao stammered, looking at the shocked expressions of his peers, unsure how to react.
Jiang Liu was the first to regain his composure. He quickly turned around to look behind him but was horrified to discover that the corridor they had just run through had vanished, leaving only a pale wall in its place.
Lin Feng and Wang Chao also noticed this phenomenon. Wang Chao appeared somewhat calmer; he simply furrowed his brow as he stared at the white wall. However, Lin Feng looked as if he had seen a ghost, terrified into silence as he pointed at the wall, hoping the other two would explain what had just happened and why there was now a wall behind them.
Ignoring Lin Feng, Jiang Liu reached out and touched the wall, pressing against it firmly a few times. It felt solid; it must be a solid wall. He quickly scanned their surroundings.
It was then that he realized they were in a room. The room was tall—about three stories high—and circular in shape, surrounded by fan-shaped white walls. A massive glass chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting light throughout the space. If Jiang Liu guessed correctly, this must have been the source of the white light they had seen in the corridor.
The room was otherwise empty except for about a dozen classmates who were either squatting or lying down, aimlessly waiting in this birdcage-like chamber with a diameter of 100 meters.
While Jiang Liu observed the room, the other students inside were quietly watching them. Eventually, someone recognized Jiang Liu and his companions as the three who had left the classroom earlier. In an instant, the previously quiet room erupted into chaos with gasps and screams echoing throughout.
Wang Chao initially thought the panic among his classmates was due to their sudden appearance, but gradually he realized that things were not as he had imagined; everyone was distancing themselves from them!
Or perhaps, after others caught sight of the three of them, their expressions turned to sheer terror, a fear akin to seeing a ghost, as if they couldn't believe the three of them were actually there.
Jiang Liu also noticed this strange phenomenon, and his unease began to intensify.
Wang Chao turned to look at Jiang Liu and Lin Feng. They weren't that scary! He touched his face, finding nothing unusual. Why were others reacting as if they had seen a ghost upon seeing the three of them?
"Hey, what's wrong with you all? It's me, Wang Chao!"
As he asked, Wang Chao walked toward the group gathered across from him, but after just a few steps, he was pulled back by Jiang Liu. Wang Chao turned around, questioning Jiang Liu with his eyes why he had stopped him.
Jiang Liu gestured in a direction with his chin, indicating for Wang Chao to look closely. "They have knives in their hands. If you go over now, it could lead to unnecessary trouble."
Wang Chao squinted in the direction Jiang Liu pointed and indeed spotted a few boys in an inconspicuous corner of the crowd, gripping knives and glaring fiercely at the three of them.
"Damn it, those knives have seen blood. What have they done?"
Wang Chao had sharp eyesight; even from such a distance, he could see the bloodstains on the blades. Upon hearing Wang Chao's words, Jiang Liu froze for a moment before a bloody scene from the classroom flashed through his mind, and his expression grew serious.
