Horror Chapter
The silence lingered for three or four minutes before Jia Ren finally composed himself and thoughtfully responded to Jiang Liu's earlier question.
"It should be Classroom 000."
Upon hearing this answer, Jiang Liu and Wang Chao instinctively exchanged glances. Then, Jiang Liu displayed a look of surprise as he said to Jia Ren, "What a coincidence! I'm also a student from Classroom 000."
After that, both of them observed Jia Ren's expression, but to their disappointment, there was no noticeable change on his face upon learning that Jiang Liu was also from Classroom 000. Instead, he appeared astonished. "Really? That's quite a coincidence! I never expected that after all these years, the person interviewing me would be juniors from my class."
"We should be the ones feeling lucky. When we found out you were a senior from Classroom 000, both Wang Chao and I were quite surprised."
Given the circumstances from yesterday, it was indeed surprising for Jiang Liu and Wang Chao to learn that Jia Ren was a student from Classroom 000 and the only one who had graduated.
"Haha, we're all in the same boat."
After discovering that Jiang Liu and Wang Chao were also students from Classroom 000, Jia Ren's demeanor became even more enthusiastic. "By the way, what are you here to interview about?"
"Well, the school mainly wants to understand the lives of students after graduating from H University, as well as their experiences during their time here. It would be great if you could share your thoughts on H University as well."
"I see. So what would you like to ask first?"
"Let's start with how you entered H University," Jiang Liu suggested tentatively.
"Of course," Jia Ren replied with a nod of approval.
"Alright then, I'll begin by asking about your time in Classroom 000." Jiang Liu signaled Wang Chao to prepare for recording and continued, "First question: Do you remember how many students were in Classroom 000 when you were there?"
"Let me think," Jia Ren said, furrowing his brow for a moment. "I can't recall the exact number, but it should have been around zero."
"Are you sure?"
"It should be correct. After all, it's only been three or four years since graduation. For a class I spent four years in, while I may not remember the specific number, I still have a rough idea."
"Alright, next question. Senior, while you were living in Classroom 000, did anything particularly memorable happen?"
"Memorable things, huh?" Jia Ren pondered for a moment, and after a long pause, he shook his head at Jiang Liu. "Not really."
"Oh, not even one memorable thing?" Jiang Liu was somewhat surprised.
Jia Ren shook his head firmly, indicating that there was nothing. Jiang Liu felt quite disheartened by this definitive answer.
For someone who had lived in a cursed classroom for four years, how could nothing terrifying have happened? That seemed impossible. Just look at Jiang Liu and Wang Chao; they had already experienced numerous terrifying events since the semester began. Three people had died so far, each in a horrifying and tragic manner.
However, on another note, Jia Ren's response conveyed bad news to both Jiang Liu and Wang Chao—news they were reluctant to consider. If Jia Ren had no memories and the curse of Classroom 000 occurred every year, then there was only one possibility.
The curse of Classroom 000 had erased everyone's memories; all information regarding the classroom had been wiped clean, except for those like Jiang Liu who participated in supernatural events as Escapers.
Jiang Liu's expression darkened at this realization, but he reminded himself of his current identity and tried to calm his growing anxiety as he continued to ask questions. "Could you explain why?"
"Well," Jia Ren said apologetically, "I was always somewhat of an outsider during college. I didn't pay much attention to class matters, so I'm really sorry—I genuinely have no recollection of anything memorable from class."
Jiang Liu and Wang Chao clearly did not believe this answer. Looking at the typical sunny and cheerful Jia Ren before him, he found it hard to reconcile such a bright and handsome guy with someone who was detached from the class and indifferent to everything around him.
Compared to Jia Ren's explanation, Jiang Liu was more inclined to accept his own speculation. The only possibility that could explain why Jia Ren believed he had been independent from other classmates during college was the influence of the curse in Classroom 000.
"I see," Jiang Liu feigned belief in Jia Ren's explanation and switched to another question. "Do you remember any other classmates? For instance, can you recall a specific name?"
This question made Jia Ren furrow his brow even more seriously. After thinking for several minutes again, he helplessly replied, "I'm sorry; I really can't remember. It's strange—I clearly remember many faces, but when I think about it carefully, everything becomes so vague. Forget names; I can't even recall their appearances now."
It seemed that Jiang Liu's speculation was correct. He thought to himself.
"Forget it if you can't remember; let's move on to the next question," Jiang Liu suggested after some thought. "Do you have any memories about your four years at H University?"
"This is interesting," Jia Ren wondered why Jiang Liu would ask such a question. However, since he was being interviewed, he felt obliged to respond. "I definitely have memories, though they're just trivial matters."
"Can you tell me what kind of things those are?"
"Of course."
The interview continued until after 11 a.m. Wang Chao, exhausted, turned off his phone as the session came to an end. After more than two hours of questioning, he was completely worn out. Jiang Liu, on the other hand, wore a cheerful expression and said to Jia Ren, "Thank you for your help, senior. I think because of your assistance, we will have a better understanding of life at H University."
"It's nothing, really. I should be the one thanking you. It also brought back some memories of my college days," Jia Ren replied with a smile.
"It's getting late; let's go grab a meal together," Jiang Liu suggested.
"No need, I have plans with others later, so don't worry about it," Jia Ren waved his hand in refusal. Noticing that Jia Ren seemed to have other matters to attend to, Jiang Liu decided not to press further. After exchanging farewells, Jia Ren left the café.
Watching Jia Ren's departing figure, Wang Chao spoke first, "Looks like we worked hard for nothing."
"Not entirely; at least we know someone survived from Classroom 000 and has been living for over four years," Jiang Liu said while sipping his coffee and reviewing the notes he had just taken during the conversation.
