Horror Chapter
Liu Ming's expression was rich with fear, surprise, and disbelief.
This was the first time Wang Xing had seen Liu Ming display such a range of emotions. Stealing a glance at Jiang Liu, he noticed that the boy in front of him seemed unremarkable, leaving him puzzled as to why Liu Ming was so flustered.
"Do you know about the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident?"
Jiang Liu looked at Liu Ming. Given his own experiences with non-reality-based supernatural events, he was curious to see if Liu Ming was aware of this different type of supernatural incident. However, judging by Liu Ming's current demeanor, Jiang Liu was certain that Liu Ming not only knew about the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident but had likely experienced it firsthand.
Wang Xing, standing beside Liu Ming, displayed confusion upon hearing the term "Interdimensional Supernatural Incident." He had never heard Liu Ming mention it before and had not come across any elders discussing another type of supernatural event beyond the reality-based ones.
As for Zhang Lin and Shuangshuang, they had learned about various types of supernatural incidents during their studies, so they did not appear confused. However, based on Liu Ming's expression, it was clear that this so-called Interdimensional Supernatural Incident posed significant issues.
At least in the previous two supernatural incidents, Liu Ming had never shown such astonishment.
"Are you sure you know what an Interdimensional Supernatural Incident is?"
Liu Ming gazed into Jiang Liu's eyes, searching for some other emotion reflected there.
For those who had never experienced an Interdimensional Supernatural Incident, it might simply seem like a different category of events compared to reality-based supernatural incidents. But for someone like Liu Ming, who had lived through an Interdimensional Supernatural Incident, he understood just how despairing such events could be.
To his disappointment, however, Jiang Liu did not shy away from his gaze; instead, he spoke a name.
"Edge World!"
The moment those four words left Jiang Liu's lips, Liu Ming was completely convinced that Jiang Liu was not deceiving him—he had indeed survived two Interdimensional Supernatural Incidents!
His look towards Jiang Liu shifted from disdain to admiration and joy. He admired the fact that someone could endure two consecutive Interdimensional Supernatural Incidents and still be alive; such a person deserved his respect!
As for his joy, it stemmed from the realization that someone who could survive an event as despairing as the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident would surely have no trouble surviving ordinary reality-based supernatural incidents. Moreover, with Jiang Liu's presence, he felt significantly more confident about facing the upcoming supernatural events!
Perhaps in everyday life, you might not appreciate having a smart friend by your side, but during supernatural events, the intelligence of your teammates often becomes your greatest assurance of safely navigating through the ordeal. No one wants a foolish teammate, especially when their life is at stake!
"Wait! What are you talking about?"
Wang Xing couldn't understand the few words that came from Jiang Liu's mouth and quickly interrupted with a question.
"You don't know?"
Seeing Wang Xing's puzzled expression, Jiang Liu was confused. He had thought that aside from newcomers, everyone else would be familiar with the classifications of supernatural events. But now, looking at Wang Xing's face, he suddenly felt that the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident was not as simple as Li Lin had initially made it seem!
"As for the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident, I'll tell you about it when I have the chance later. It's a bit complicated, but for now, I can only introduce you to Ke Yimeng! He’s someone who has lived through many Interdimensional Supernatural Incidents!"
Upon hearing this name, Wang Xing looked extremely shocked! His mouth dropped open wide as if he suddenly recalled something terrifying. He pointed at Jiang Liu and exclaimed in panic, "Could it be that our supernatural event this time..."
"No, don’t worry. He only participated in this supernatural event halfway; it’s not something that was assigned to him personally. So the difficulty of our current incident hasn’t changed," Liu Ming explained.
Hearing Liu Ming's explanation, Wang Xing's panicked expression finally calmed down. He looked at Jiang Liu with a hint of sadness and sympathy.
"Wait a minute, who is this Ke Yimeng you’re talking about?" Jiang Liu asked.
"A jinx and a pervert! I know it sounds rude, but that guy is really twisted!"
Wang Xing seemed quite afraid of the person named Ke Yimeng; his tone carried a hint of lingering dread.
"Then can you tell me—"
"Alright, time is running out. Let’s hurry to the Haunted Building," Liu Ming interrupted Jiang Liu's question, urging everyone to move towards the Haunted Building.
Seeing that Liu Ming did not want to discuss anything about Ke Yimeng, Jiang Liu had no choice but to refrain from pressing further. He kept his doubts to himself and followed Liu Ming toward the Haunted Building.
"Alright! We've arrived at the Haunted Building!"
Liu Ming announced as he stood outside a clearing.
It was only then that Jiang Liu realized he had unknowingly followed Liu Ming and the others to a forgotten area within the Military Training Base.
The clearing was quite large, roughly the same size as the playground they used during Military Training, but it was evident that this space had not been cleaned in a long time. The ground was overgrown with weeds that reached up to waist height.
From time to time, a chilling breeze would sweep through, causing the tall weeds to sway ominously, sending shivers down one's spine.
Seeing this, a question arose in Jiang Liu's mind.
Logically, there shouldn't be such a large empty space at the Military Training Base. When they were undergoing Military Training, it was clear that the playground felt somewhat crowded. Yet, despite this, the school had not cleared this area for use or sent anyone to tidy it up for the students to train here!
This raised a hint of suspicion in Jiang Liu. Why would the school abandon such a large space? Why force all the freshmen to crowd into one playground? Didn't anyone think to report this to the school?
Before Jiang Liu could ponder this further, another question emerged!
Hadn't Liu Ming said they had arrived at the Haunted Building? Why couldn't he see Zhang Lin and the others' Haunted Building?
Forget about the Haunted Building; he couldn't even see any structure above the weeds!
The clearing was still just filled with waist-high weeds swaying in the wind.
Jiang Liu glanced at the others with confusion before looking back at the clearing again, still unable to spot Zhang Lin's Haunted Building. His tone grew slightly displeased.
"What does this mean?"
He believed that Liu Ming wouldn't joke about such matters, and seeing the fearful expressions on Zhang Lin and Shuangshuang's faces indicated that, in their eyes, the Haunted Building was right before them. This could only mean one thing: there was a prerequisite to seeing the Haunted Building!
However, Zhang Lin hadn't mentioned this to him earlier. Jiang Liu speculated that it was very likely they both didn’t know about it either, but Liu Ming hadn’t shared this information with him. The most probable explanation was that Liu Ming knew he couldn’t see the so-called Haunted Building, and by not telling him in advance, Liu Ming wanted him to discover this issue on his own.
As for why Jiang Liu had to figure this out himself, he guessed it was probably because Liu Ming wanted to subtly inform him that this place was the site of real supernatural events, different from the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident he had experienced before. He shouldn’t hold onto his previous arrogance! Anything could be a crucial clue!
Thinking of this, Jiang Liu’s initial anger calmed down. He quietly watched Liu Ming, waiting for his explanation.
Liu Ming, who had been observing Jiang Liu's expressions, noted the transition from anger to calmness within just a few seconds.
He couldn’t help but marvel internally: indeed, someone who survived the Interdimensional Supernatural Incident had an astonishingly quick mind! In just over ten seconds, he had figured out the entire situation!
Not wanting to hide any longer, he told Jiang Liu, “It’s normal that you can’t see it right now because you joined the supernatural event halfway through. You’re different from those of us who participated from the beginning! We need to be at a specific time to see the Haunted Building, while you not only need to be at that specific time but also step into the area shrouded by the real supernatural event to see it!”
“How could I not know these things?”
Wang Xing displayed a look of surprise upon hearing Liu Ming’s words. Liu Ming shrugged and replied innocently, “You never asked me about these things.”
“Damn it!”
Wang Xing could hardly contain his anger and gritted his teeth as he asked, “What else haven’t you told me?”
“A lot! But there’s no need to tell you everything now; many things you need to discover and understand on your own!”
Jiang Liu felt that Liu Ming’s statement applied not only to Wang Xing but also subtly hinted at some matters for himself.
Why do these older folks always like to share half-truths and keep the other half hidden?
Jiang Liu recalled how Li Lin used to be like this in the past, and he couldn't help but wonder if the elderly person he encountered now was from the same organization!
"Alright, it's almost time. Let's head into the Haunted Building!"
Seeing Liu Ming step into the Haunted Building first, Wang Xing had no choice but to suppress his anger and follow behind.
Jiang Liu took a deep breath as he looked at the empty space ahead and walked forward.
The moment he stepped onto the open ground, he felt a flash before his eyes, and a dilapidated building appeared in front of him!
The building stood seven stories tall, resembling the teaching building from his high school days. The walls were covered in dark green moss, giving it an abandoned look that suggested it had been neglected for a long time. There wasn't a glimmer of light inside, making it feel like a massive coffin standing in the open space!
A cold wind swept through, causing Jiang Liu to shiver unexpectedly. At that moment, he sensed an evil gaze watching him from within the Haunted Building!
He couldn't quite describe that feeling; it was as if he were exposed and vulnerable under that sinister stare!
Fear surged from his feet straight to his brain!
As time passed, that evil gaze became increasingly clear!
The entire world seemed to darken, leaving only a pair of enormous blood-red pupils hanging high above, looking down at him!
"Jiang Liu! What's wrong? Why are you just standing there?"
Zhang Lin, who had entered the Haunted Building, noticed Jiang Liu standing frozen in front of it as if in a daze and couldn't help but ask.
At her words, Jiang Liu immediately snapped out of that terrifying illusion! His body was already drenched in cold sweat!
He looked around in fear! But after searching for a long time, he did not feel that evil gaze again.
It seemed like everything was just an illusion!
Taking several deep breaths, Jiang Liu gradually calmed down and waved his hand at Zhang Lin, signaling that he was fine. It was thanks to Zhang Lin noticing something unusual about Jiang Liu and asking him that he felt he might have truly died in that illusion!
Zhang Lin stepped out of the Haunted Building and hurried to Jiang Liu's side, asking nervously, "What did you discover?"
"Eyes! Very evil eyes!"
"You noticed too!"
"Yes, thanks to your reminder; otherwise, I might not have escaped that illusion!"
"What illusion?"
Zhang Lin was puzzled. He didn't understand what kind of illusion Jiang Liu was referring to. They had both felt the evil gaze, but it hadn't affected Jiang Liu as dramatically as he was expressing!
"You didn't experience any illusions?"
Zhang Lin shook his head.
Could it be that only he felt that illusion?
Now it was Jiang Liu's turn to be confused!
