Horror Chapter
Upon reaching the second floor of the Haunted Building, the two discovered that this level was no different from the one below. It still consisted of the same few classrooms, and even the number of classrooms remained unchanged.
"Once we finish checking this floor, we can meet up with Wang Xing and the others!"
Zhang Lin said cheerfully to Shuangshuang. When they had separated from Wang Xing and the others, he had been worried about being left alone in this terrifying Haunted Building with only Shuangshuang by his side. In horror movies, this scenario often leads to death. He couldn't shake the thought that a terrifying ghost might suddenly appear while he was checking the classrooms and kill them. This idea lingered in his mind as he inspected all the classrooms on the first floor, but things did not unfold as he had imagined, which relieved him.
Just as they were preparing to set off again, Zhang Lin suddenly felt something on his shoulder. Confused, he turned his head to take a look, and what he saw nearly made his soul leave his body!
A hand, exceptionally pale under the moonlight, appeared on his shoulder!
With slender, white fingers and sharp protruding nails, a horrifying and ghastly face flashed in Zhang Lin's mind!
Was there a ghost standing right behind him?!
As he prepared to grab Shuangshuang's hand and make a desperate run for it, a voice that sounded like a Male Voice came from behind them.
"Hey! What are you two doing here?"
The familiar voice startled Zhang Lin for a moment before filling him with joy.
He recognized who it was; it was none other than Wang Xing, the kindest of the two elderly men!
"Wang Xing?!"
Turning around to look!
Sure enough! Standing not far from them was Elder Wang Xing!
Wang Xing stood in the hallway, a puzzled expression on his face as he looked at the two of them, seemingly unable to understand why they had been lingering on the second floor for so long. It appeared they had not yet finished their inspection of that floor.
Beside him, Shuangshuang initially did not notice the pale hand that had suddenly appeared on Zhang Lin's shoulder. When she heard a voice behind her, she jumped in surprise and was about to scream when she heard Zhang Lin call out "Wang Xing." Turning around, she saw that it was indeed Wang Xing standing behind them.
The shock that had filled her heart was now replaced with joy at seeing a teammate. Just as she was about to greet Wang Xing, she noticed that Zhang Lin had pulled her back a few steps, looking at him with a hint of wariness. Confused, she glanced at Zhang Lin, not understanding why he seemed so cautious.
"How did you end up here? Weren't you upstairs checking the floors with another newcomer? Where's that newcomer?"
Zhang Lin watched Wang Xing warily. Although he felt a rush of excitement upon hearing Wang Xing's voice, something felt off.
[Something's wrong! How could Wang Xing be here? And from where he is standing, there's no way he could have placed his hand on my shoulder! So whose hand was it on my shoulder just now?]
Shuangshuang, who had been confused, reacted to Zhang Lin's questioning and looked at Wang Xing with a hint of fear, as if she couldn't believe the sudden thought that had flashed through her mind.
Seeing the two newcomers staring at him warily and noticing the terrified expression on the girl's face, Wang Xing first felt puzzled but then quickly understood why they were acting this way. He admired their instinctive caution after suddenly encountering a teammate and smiled as he spoke.
"Why wouldn't I be here? And I want to ask you both, why are you taking so long to check this two-story building? It's been quite some time! From the looks of it, you seem like you've just finished inspecting the first floor."
"Uh, that's a difficult question for me to answer," Zhang Lin replied awkwardly. He couldn't admit that he and Shuangshuang had been too scared to move forward, spending over twenty minutes checking just one classroom.
He quickly changed the subject. "So let me ask you, where's the other newcomer who was with you? Why didn't you both come down together?"
To his surprise, when Wang Xing heard this question, he looked at him in confusion and asked, "You didn't see her?"
"What do you mean?"
Zhang Lin was a bit confused by Wang Xing's question.
What did he mean by "we didn't see anyone"? Wasn't that newcomer with him?
Wang Xing also realized that his question was somewhat muddled. He explained to the two, "Just now, when I was checking the classroom on the fifth floor with that newcomer, I don't know what he saw, but he screamed and left me there, running downstairs. Didn't you see him come down?"
"No!"
Zhang Lin answered firmly, and Shuangshuang beside him nodded at Wang Xing, indicating that neither of them had seen anyone come down from upstairs.
"This is bad!"
Wang Xing thought to himself that things were not looking good. He already knew what had happened to the Black-Rimmed Glasses Man!
In this eerie Haunted Building, it was dangerous for one person to move around alone. Now that the two downstairs said they hadn't seen anyone come down, it could only mean that the Black-Rimmed Glasses Man had met with misfortune, and it was very likely that he had already fallen victim to a ghost!
Upon seeing Wang Xing's distressed expression, Zhang Lin had already guessed the fate of the other newcomer. However, his suspicion towards Wang Xing had not diminished in the slightest, and he asked again.
"That question counts as passed for you. So how are you going to prove that you are Wang Xing and not a ghost in disguise?"
In truth, when he heard Wang Xing explain why he appeared alone, he had already believed that this Wang Xing was indeed the real one!
So the question arose: since he had confirmed that this Wang Xing was genuine, why did he still want Wang Xing to provide evidence that he wasn't a ghost in disguise?
It was simple!
Because he needed a topic to divert himself from the fear generated by the terrifying hand that had suddenly appeared on his shoulder moments ago!
Some things, he dared not think too deeply about!
As the saying goes: when faced with an unacceptable truth, the best way to cope is to shift your attention to another topic!
"I can't prove it!"
Wang Xing pondered for a moment and explained to the two, "Actually, I have many ways to explain to others that I'm not a ghost in disguise, but I can't do that for you two."
"Why?"
Zhang Lin's fear was indeed overshadowed by curiosity; he was eager to know why Wang Xing couldn't explain himself to them.
"Do you two understand us?" Wang Xing posed a question without giving them a chance to think. He continued, "Even if I presented a mountain of evidence proving I'm not a ghost in disguise, it would only be relevant to those who know me. For you two, that connection doesn't exist! You don't know my past, my personality, or my interests. You aren't even aware of the supernatural events I've experienced! Likewise, I don't know your pasts or experiences; I can't even remember your names. In this situation, how can you expect me to prove anything?"
"Uh..."
Zhang Lin suddenly felt that asking Wang Xing to prove whether he was a ghost was a bit foolish and decided not to pursue the topic further.
An eerie atmosphere enveloped the three of them.
