Horror Chapter
When Jiang Liu woke up, it was already past eight in the morning.
He opened the door and found Li Lin and Xu Qian sitting on the couch in the living room, where a table was filled with an abundance of food.
"You're awake! Come have some breakfast."
Seeing Jiang Liu awake, Li Lin invited him to join for breakfast. Having not eaten the night before, Jiang Liu's growling stomach made him eager to dig in without hesitation. He sat down at the table and began to feast.
"Where did you guys get all this food?"
Jiang Liu was curious about how so much food had appeared on the table, especially since Li Lin and Xu Qian didn't seem like they were the cooking types.
"I don't know. When I came out this morning, I just saw the table full of food," Li Lin replied, shaking her head. "But don't worry about how it got here; some things are better left unexplained!"
"That's a fair point!" Jiang Liu nodded in agreement.
As they were eating, the others also emerged and rushed over to the table upon seeing the spread of food.
"This food is amazing! Who made it?"
Student Sister asked while munching away, echoing Jiang Liu's earlier question. Li Lin smiled and gave the same response: "Just eat; some questions are better left unanswered."
"Hey! Did any of you notice anything strange last night?"
White-Collar Man asked as he chewed on a sandwich.
"Not really, but I did notice how luxurious the rooms are! I was so excited all night!" Student Sister exclaimed. "I've always wanted to experience a wealthy lifestyle, and now it's actually happening!"
Another quieter girl remained silent, quietly eating the food in her hands. After swallowing the food in his mouth, Jiang Liu shared his discovery from last night.
"I did a quick inspection of the room last night and found that something was missing! I don't know if your rooms are the same as mine?"
"What’s the problem?"
Since last night, Jiang Liu had been the first to notice something was off. Li Lin's attitude towards him had changed, and she began to pay attention to his words.
"Not really! I haven't noticed anything missing! The mirror, bed linens, and toiletries are all here!" Student Sister replied.
"The window! I discovered that my room doesn't have a single window! Or rather, aside from the door, there is no way to connect my room to the outside world!" Jiang Liu revealed his finding.
"Wow! Now that you mention it, my room also seems to lack a window!" White-Collar Man exclaimed in surprise.
"What do you think this means?" Li Lin and Xu Qian looked at Jiang Liu. They realized that this newcomer had a sharper intuition than them and the other experienced Escapers who had completed multiple missions.
"I don’t know," Jiang Liu shook his head and continued, "but I believe this is not good news!"
"How so?"
"Ever since I discovered there were no windows in the room last night, I've been wondering why a hotel guest room lacks basic escape routes!" Jiang Liu took a sip of plain water and continued, "So I came up with a scenario: if a ghost were to enter my room last night, how would I escape?"
"You mean the reason there are no windows is to block our escape routes? If a ghost enters the room, then our only exit would be the door!" Li Lin followed Jiang Liu's line of thought.
"Exactly. The only escape route would be this one!"
"Then wouldn’t we just be waiting to die?" Student Sister looked at Jiang Liu in terror.
"Waiting to die is impossible; they wouldn't arrange for us to face certain death through supernatural events. There must be some way out," Li Lin reassured Student Sister.
"Then, it seems that this time the way out is likely in our respective rooms?" Xu Qian's eyes lit up with excitement.
"Yes, I think the way out might be in our own rooms. After we finish eating, let's all go to our rooms and search for any clues!" Li Lin suggested.
The White-Collar Man looked worried and said, "But last night, didn't the note say we couldn't enter each other's rooms?"
"That was at night. During the day, we should be able to enter each other's rooms freely," the Silent Woman interjected, directly pointing out the implication of the note.
Hearing the Silent Woman's words, Jiang Liu, Li Lin, and Xu Qian looked at her in surprise. Especially Li Lin; he had thought that aside from Jiang Liu, the newcomers were all rather slow to react. He was astonished to find that there was actually an observant newcomer among them.
"Hello, I must say your observation is quite sharp. May I ask your name?" Li Lin offered kindly.
"Lin Mao'er."
"Oh! That's a lovely name!"
Lin Mao'er fell silent after introducing herself, appearing somewhat aloof, which made Li Lin feel quite awkward.
Fortunately, at that moment, the Fat Man emerged from his room, breaking the tension.
Lin Mao'er remained quiet after stating her name, still seeming distant, which continued to leave Li Lin feeling embarrassed.
Just then, Liu the Great stepped out of his room, shattering the awkwardness.
Liu the Great was seen repeatedly rubbing the back of his neck as he noticed everyone at the table looking at him, feeling a bit shy.
"I didn't sleep well last night, so I woke up late. Sorry about that!"
"Don't worry, we just got up not long ago. Let's have breakfast together," Li Lin called Liu the Great over to join them.
"Hehe, then I won't hold back."
Liu the Great found an empty chair and sat down, devouring his food hungrily. By this time, Li Lin had also eaten enough and, while sipping his drink, brought up the topic they had discussed earlier with Liu the Great.
"Hey! I really didn't notice that there are no windows in this room!" Liu the Great nodded while eating breakfast. "I'm fine with whatever you decide."
"Alright, once you're done eating, we'll head to our respective rooms to check things out."
"By the way! I have a question!" Student Sister suddenly asked at that moment.
"What question?"
"Last night, you suddenly told us to find our rooms and stay inside without coming out. What was that about? You looked really angry at that time!"
Student Sister's question echoed the curiosity of the other newcomers. Indeed, it was because of a comment made by a boy named Jiang Liu that Li Lin's expression had changed, and he had anxiously urged them to find their rooms quickly and stay inside.
"Hehe, it’s actually nothing much. It was just something Jiang Liu said last night that made me think of something!" Li Lin smiled.
"What was it? Why did it make you act so flustered?" The newcomers were all curious.
"Well, last night Jiang Liu pointed out that we entered the hotel right at 8 o'clock. By the time we read the note, over twenty minutes had already passed. At first, I was a bit puzzled, but I quickly realized what Jiang Liu meant." Li Lin took a sip of water and continued without keeping them in suspense. "I thought about how we entered the hotel at night while the hotel's clock showed exactly 8 o'clock! Plus, according to the note we just received, we were only allowed to stay outside our rooms for a maximum of zero minutes. The timing of these events was just too coincidental, so I urged everyone to quickly find their rooms."
Upon hearing Li Lin's explanation, the other newcomers broke into a cold sweat. Thankfully, some among them had noticed this phenomenon beforehand; otherwise, who knew what might have happened if they stayed outside their rooms for more than zero minutes?
They looked at Jiang Liu with a hint of admiration. Jiang Liu himself seemed indifferent; he had only guessed last night and merely shared his concerns with Li Lin.
After listening to Li Lin's words, most of them had finished eating. Seeing that they were nearly done, Li Lin spoke up again.
"Has everyone finished eating? If so, let's get going!" Li Lin addressed everyone present.
The first room to be checked was Li Lin's Room 101.
Upon entering the room, they found it to be luxuriously decorated, though after last night's experience, no one seemed overly surprised.
As soon as they stepped into the bedroom, Jiang Liu noticed the conspicuous Black Clock and instinctively remarked, "Oh? Your bedroom has a Black Clock too!"
"Really? Does yours have one as well?" Li Lin asked.
"Yes, I have a Black Clock in my bedroom too," Jiang Liu nodded.
"I have one in mine as well!" Student Sister chimed in.
"Me too!" White-Collar Man nodded in agreement.
After some inquiry, they discovered that each person's bedroom had a Black Clock prominently displayed. Li Lin fell into deep thought after asking, and White-Collar Man questioned, "Could this also be a clue?"
