Horror Chapter
As Jiang Liu and Li Jian were lost in their thoughts, a sudden scream pierced the air ahead. Jiang Liu looked up to see two students from his vehicle; one, a taller boy, had collapsed onto the ground, pointing at a window with a terrified expression, mouth agape, exclaiming, "A ghost, a ghost..."
【The ghost has moved?】
The thought barely formed in Jiang Liu's mind when Li Jian rushed over to the boy, urgently asking, "Calm down, tell me what happened!"
"The ghost... it grabbed Zhang and pulled him away!" The boy stammered out this sentence. Instantly, chaos erupted in the cabin as cries and shouts filled the air.
"Everyone shut up! What are you crying for?"
Li Jian shouted at the crowd in irritation. His roar indeed silenced them, though one girl continued to sob quietly, and an elderly woman maintained her expression as if she had seen through the world's troubles. Jiang Liu hurried over to assist Li Jian in helping the boy back into his seat. Turning around, he noticed Li Jian examining the window through which the other student had vanished. He couldn't help but admire Li Jian's courage; most people would avoid investigating after such an incident, yet he dared to observe alone.
"Can you tell me what happened?" Jiang Liu asked the still-frightened boy.
"I... I saw a Black Shadow outside the window and instinctively wanted to warn Zhang to get away from there. But in the blink of an eye, that shadow reached out and pulled Zhang out."
Jiang Liu glanced around the cabin and confirmed that indeed someone was missing. After offering some words of comfort to the boy, he walked over to Li Jian.
"Have you found anything else?" Jiang Liu inquired.
"Nothing. The window is intact, showing no signs of damage. It's hard to imagine how a living person could just vanish like that inside the cabin."
"But wasn't he pulled out by that shadow outside?" Jiang Liu caught another meaning in Li Jian's words.
"Did you see it?" Li Jian turned to look at Jiang Liu and asked further, "Did you actually witness that student being pulled out by the shadow outside the bus?"
"No, but..."
Li Jian glanced at the male student who was placed at the back of the car and lowered his voice, "Don't forget, there's a ghost in the car. You can't trust anyone's words!"
Hearing this, Jiang Liu felt as if he had been struck by lightning, cursing himself for forgetting such an important detail. How foolish!
Fortunately, Jiang Liu was quick-witted. Although he hadn't reacted at first, he was now starting to calm down.
The note indicated that there was a ghost in the car, which meant that the attack likely occurred from within. The missing student had indeed been dragged out by a ghostly figure outside the bus. If that were the case, it suggested that the male student might be lying, but his demeanor didn't seem to indicate deceit. This left only one possibility: the ghost had confused the male student into believing that the attack came from outside. But why would it do that? If it wanted to strike, it could easily target those who were alone, avoiding attention. Was this yet another clue?
"Jiang Liu, who do you think is the most suspicious so far?" Li Jian asked.
Jiang Liu looked around at the others in the car: the elderly woman who seemed detached from reality, the female student who was quietly crying, the male student who appeared to be on the verge of a breakdown, and Li Ya, who was still asleep. After some thought, he whispered, "I think that old woman is quite suspicious. She hasn't shown much panic at all; normally, a person would be far more agitated in a situation like this."
"No, I actually find Li Ya more suspicious!" Li Jian countered.
"What? You're suspecting your own partner!" Jiang Liu exclaimed in disbelief. He couldn't understand why Li Jian would think that way; ordinary people wouldn't doubt their significant others, yet Li Jian had directly pointed fingers at his own partner with whom he had been affectionate before getting on the bus.
Li Jian furrowed his brow as he looked at Li Ya lying at the back of the car and said to Jiang Liu, "After I learned about our situation, I started recalling my memories. The more I thought about it, the stranger it became; I can't remember when I met Li Ya or when we confirmed our relationship. I don't even know where she's from. I suspect there might be some mysterious force altering my memories."
Upon hearing Li Jian's words, Jiang Liu felt as if his worldview had collapsed. He couldn't believe there could be such a force capable of silently altering someone's memories. However, since he couldn't refute Li Jian's claims either, he could only look at him with a strange expression.
"I know you might not believe me, but I have one more thing to prove my point," Li Jian said seriously while looking at Jiang Liu. "Did you notice? Just now my voice was so loud, yet Li Ya didn't show any signs of waking up."
Listening to Li Jian's observation made Jiang Liu realize something was off as he turned to look at where Li Ya had been sleeping. To his shock, he discovered that she had vanished! Li Jian also noticed this fact and felt a chill run down his spine as he realized that Li Ya had truly disappeared without explanation from inside the car.
"She disappeared again! Why did she vanish?" Li Jian murmured.
Seeing that Li Jian wasn't upset about Li Ya's disappearance filled Jiang Liu with an odd sensation. However, given their relationship issues, he felt it wasn't appropriate to say anything further.
Li Ya had also vanished, and this time she disappeared silently within the compartment. Was he going to miss another clue?
Jiang Liu felt a wave of pressure; there were only four people left in the vehicle. Excluding the ghost, that left just three, which meant he was likely to be the next target of an attack, and he had no leads whatsoever.
What was the clue? The male student had been dragged out Outside the Bus, Li Ya had quietly disappeared inside, and the ghost had boarded before him. There had been so many people who boarded before him! How was he supposed to know... Wait, he remembered there was one person who got on before him—the middle-aged woman!
But she had gotten off long ago; there was no reason to suspect she was the ghost! If he misidentified her, it would mean his death—he only had one chance.
"I got it! I know who the ghost is!"
Li Jian suddenly shouted. Jiang Liu looked up to see Li Jian flailing his arms and shouting excitedly. He quickly ran over and asked, "Who is the ghost?"
"Do you remember how many people boarded at our stop?" Li Jian didn't directly answer Jiang Liu's question but posed one instead.
"Five people. I remember it was me, you, Li Ya, the old lady, and a middle-aged woman."
"That's right, five in total," Li Jian said, his eyes gleaming with a knowing look. He continued, "So here’s the question: when did your note arrive?"
