Liu Bi let out a sound and transformed into a gust of cold wind, disappearing from my sight. I crouched down patiently, waiting for Liu Bi to give me a signal, feeling no concern at all.
To be honest, given Liu Bi's current abilities, talismans and protective items, even those that had been consecrated, could no longer stop it. All it needed to do was find the object attached to Zhang Zhen and remove the talisman on it. There wasn't much difficulty involved; even if Master Chen had a ghost guarding his home, it wouldn't be able to stop Liu Bi.
The reason I didn't let Liu Bi directly retrieve the object or bring Zhang Zhen's soul out was that Master Chen's room must have some restrictions to prevent ghosts from escaping. If we forced it out, it might cause harm to Zhang Zhen. So, to be safe, I planned to use a soul-calling method to extract Zhang Zhen's soul from Master Chen's house.
After waiting for about four or five minutes with no sign of activity, I began to feel puzzled. This matter shouldn't have been complicated; Liu Bi should have been able to handle it quickly. A few more minutes passed, and I started to grow impatient. However, I couldn't go up myself and had no idea what was happening up there.
My anxiety grew; I feared that Liu Bi had fallen into Master Chen's trap again. If Liu Bi got caught once more, what would I do? Looking around, I made up my mind: if there was still no movement in five minutes, I would directly switch to the Soul Calling Array. No matter how many souls were in Master Chen's house, I would call them out. Being this close should allow me to summon Liu Bi.
Fortunately, it didn't let me down. Shortly after, I heard something being thrown down from upstairs. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be an unopened incense stick.
I quickly stood up and bent slightly as I began the soul-calling ritual with the Summoning Array.
Liu Bi continued tossing things out; one incense stick after another kept flying out of the window. I had no idea what it was up to.
As soon as I completed the Soul Summoning Spell, I saw a soul slowly materializing in the array, becoming more solid and clearer by the moment. When it fully appeared before me, I was certain that this ghost was Old Zhang's daughter because her appearance matched Sayo's description perfectly—she was dressed very provocatively.
She wore a low-cut top, an ultra-short skirt, and a pair of red high heels. The exposed parts of her body were far more than those covered by her clothing, leaving me speechless. In my heart, I cursed Master Chen for being such a pervert.
The ghost appeared in the Soul Calling Array with an expressionless look at me before turning her head around in panic. I quickly grabbed the object I had prepared earlier and began the Soul Guiding process to collect her soul. In no time at all, I forcibly captured Zhang Zhen's soul into the object.
After finishing, I hurriedly packed away everything used for the array into my Cloth Bag. Just as I finished packing up, Liu Bi appeared before me with a mischievous grin and said, "I made that old man's room a complete mess and tossed down some fine incense sticks."
"What do you need those for? You can't light them anyway. Let's go before we attract more trouble," I replied helplessly as I turned towards where we parked.
Liu Bi picked up the incense sticks and quickly followed me while saying, "You can light them! It's not like I can keep mooching off you; I'm just bringing my own ingredients."
"Shameless, you haven't had enough yet," I quickly got into the car and left that place in a hurry.
Back home, I found a few sheets of paper that I usually used to fold into clothes for the dead. I glued them together to make a set of mourning garments. Then, I recited a spell for sending cold clothes. This spell allows the Spirit God to receive the garments on-site; without reciting it, the Spirit God cannot receive them directly and must go through the Underworld.
The mourning garments are meant for the Spirit God to wear. The size doesn't need to be too large, and there are no restrictions on color. Generally, shiny paper is used, but other types of paper can work as long as the colors are solid. Various colors are acceptable, but they cannot be multicolored or patterned, similar to Funeral Garments. An ancient saying goes that paper shops cut five colors of paper to make clothing for both genders, with lengths varying. These are called cold clothes. There can be many types of cold clothes in various solid colors, but they must not mix with other colors. Otherwise, if worn by the Spirit God, it would tarnish the Soul and not be favored by other Spirit Gods.
When making the mourning garments, ordinary glue or plastic tape cannot be used; it must be Rice Paste or glue made from rice or flour starch. This is called grain paste, ensuring that the mourning garments won't tear when worn by the Spirit God.
After burning the newly made mourning garments, I called out Zhang Zhen's soul and instructed her to put on the clothes first. If she did so, she could be sent down; otherwise, there would be more trouble below, and without anyone to worship her, she wouldn't receive any other garments.
While she changed clothes, I turned away, but Liu Bi was watching with a smirk as if such matters were no longer embarrassing in his eyes. I cleared my throat lightly, and Liu Bi reluctantly turned away.
After a moment, Liu Bi said, "Is it done? Why is it taking so long?"
I turned back to see Zhang Zhen already dressed in the mourning garments I had burned for her, still expressionless as she looked at us without saying anything.
Liu Bi remarked, "She can't have lost consciousness already, can she?"
I stared at her for a moment and said, "Call Old Zhang out and see if she reacts."
Liu Bi picked up an umbrella nearby and shook it a few times before calling out, "Old Zhang! Old Zhang! Come out quickly; we’ve brought your daughter back!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Old Zhang appeared swiftly in the study. Ignoring everyone else, his gaze immediately fell upon the still-dazed Zhang Zhen not far away.
Old Zhang's body trembled as he shakily approached Zhang Zhen's spirit. He reached out as if to take her hand. Zhang Zhen tilted her head in confusion at Old Zhang and instinctively pulled away.
"Truly, there is no awareness left, but thankfully, there is Reincarnation," Liu Bi murmured to himself.
I nodded and said, "Alright, it's not your concern anymore. You should go into the umbrella; I'll handle them."
"Brother, just let me watch for a bit," Liu Bi replied with dissatisfaction, showing no intention of going into the umbrella.
I couldn't do anything about it, so I silently began to set up the Soul Sending Array. Old Zhang was very agitated; although his expression didn't change much, his body trembled continuously, even flickering slightly.
Worried that Old Zhang's Soul might harm Zhang Zhen's Soul, I quickly recited a passage from the Soul Requiem, which calmed Old Zhang down a bit. I then said to Old Zhang, "She has no awareness left and can't remember who you are."
Old Zhang paused his actions and sighed deeply, simply saying three words: "Thank you." His voice was hoarse and choked, making it hard to listen.
I nodded, understanding Old Zhang's feelings. I began to Send Soul to Zhang Zhen. The information from the Incense made me optimistic; she hadn't been in the mortal realm for long, so she hadn't yet been removed from the records below and turned into a wandering ghost. This meant that her soul could be sent down without a long wait before being reincarnated.
I explained the situation to Old Zhang. His face stiffened slightly as he said, "That's great." Although his tone was cold, I knew he felt relieved.
It didn't take much effort; I successfully sent Zhang Zhen's Soul away. She offered no resistance at all. Even at the moment I sent her away, she still wore that confused expression. I knew she had been controlled by Master Chen and had become an unconscious Spirit God who only followed orders. However, retrieving her awareness would be difficult for me; even if it were possible, it wouldn't hold much significance.
Her connection with Old Zhang had been severed; from now on, they would be like strangers with no further intersections in their lives. At this point, having them recognize each other as father and daughter would hold no meaning.
Sometimes, reality is just like this—it doesn't change according to human will.
After sending Zhang Zhen away, I said to Old Zhang, "Old Zhang, it's your turn now. Once you go down, don't try to seek her out; there will be no more communication between you two."
Old Zhang nodded and said, "Yes, I understand. I'm very happy; I can finally leave in peace."
"You have stayed in the human world for too long. After you go down, you may have to suffer a bit. This is all part of your fate, and you must accept it without question," I advised once more.
Old Zhang said, "Don't worry, I am already dead. Of course, I will accept everything that is to come. Thank you, Master Liu."
I nodded and began to chant the Send Soul incantation.
Liu Bi stood silently beside us the entire time, not saying a word. They were friends with Old Zhang and had nothing to say before this final farewell.
That was because this was a permanent goodbye; there was no need to complicate things with unnecessary words.
...
After Old Zhang left, Liu Bi quietly slipped into the umbrella. I tidied up my things and prepared to take a shower. Just then, Master Chen's phone rang, and he immediately cursed, "Did you fucking take my soul?"
The evening update is at six o'clock.
